Causal association of folic acid supplementary therapy and gastric ulcer: a Mendelian randomisation study.

Our investigation focused on the potential benefits of folic acid (FA) supplementary therapy in reducing the risk of gastric ulcers (GU). Using a method called Mendelian randomisation, we tapped into data from the UK Biobank, which provided a rich source of information for our analysis.

The analysis involved identifying seven genetic markers associated with FA supplementation. Through robust testing that included several statistical methods, we found that those genetically predisposed to higher FA intake had a significantly lower risk of developing GU.

When applied to UC mice, these liposomes showed promising results by alleviating clinical symptoms, increasing colon length, and reducing histopathological damage.

We noted that the treatment worked by inhibiting the polarization of macrophages towards the harmful M1 phenotype while downregulating the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, which is often associated with inflammation.
