There is a ton of research out there that Vitamin D is highly effective at preventing illness, and most research agrees that the current recommended daily allowance (RDA) of 600 IU is low. We give our kids (ages 4 & 7) one of these gummies per day (which is 1000 IU - the front of the bottle says 2000 IU, but that's for a 2-gummy serving) during cold/flu season, about October to April, and give them 2 gummies per day (2000 IU) whenever they're fighting a little cold. They do get a lot of natural Vitamin D (sun) during the summer months, but even then, we'll give them 2 of these gummies for a week or so whenever they're feeling under the weather. And we've asked both our pediatrician and a nutritionist whether 2000 IU of an "adult" Vitamin D gummy is okay, and the general consensus in the medical community seems to be that Vitamin D doesn't typically hit harmful levels until well over 10,000/day (some studies say 50,000/day causes toxicity, but that's for adults)...but check with your pediatrician as I'm not a doctor! As for the gummies causing cavities, we've definitely heard that from parents and from dentists, but we don't give our kids these vitamins before bedtime, and our kids are good brushers, so we haven't had any issues so far.
Aside from the kids taking these gummies, my husband and I will take a couple of these on top of our other supplements whenever we're feeling a bit sluggish, to keep colds away (it's usually successful, but it's just a vitamin, not a magic pill!).
These have no artificial colors or flavors, unlike certain "kids" vitamins, and they're easier to dispense than the liquid D. If you want flavorful gummy vitamins (and you're a good tooth-brusher), I highly recommend these
