Seems potent, and occasional burps not “disgusting” as expected
I was seriously freaked out by the reviews that described "disgusting" burps. Like, you know those burps that you get when you've eaten some bad food and you're inevitably going to throw up? That truly disgusting burp that tastes like rotten eggs in your mouth? That's what I was expecting. So when I burped for the first time after taking these pills and sensed a faint metallic taste, I was so relieved! So they're not that disgusting, in my opinion anyway, but I can imagine how they would be annoying day in and day out. You should be able to avoid them by taking the pill before bed. Alternatively, you can take the pill on an empty stomach, possibly endure some burps for an hour or two, and then eat. You can also take the pill with food but just be aware that you will be dramatically reducing the amount of iron that can be absorbed. Having said all that, this pill seems pretty potent and the vitamin C is both necessary and convenient for me. I have some stomach upset but that's par for the course. I've taken "gentle iron" supplements before which had zero side effects but clearly didn't provide as much iron as I needed. I have not been anemic in a long time, my blood iron and hemoglobin and rest of CBC always look normal, but a couple months ago my nurse thought to request a ferritin analysis. My iron stores were in the single digits (~5 ng/mL). I will update my review with the results of my next blood draw in a month or two! *** Edit (02/09/2019): My ferritin score went up to 17 ng/mL last month, so I will continue taking these and update again when that number hopefully increases even more. However, one of my nurses told me that taking an iron supplement every other day can be more effective than taking one every single day. I looked up a few studies, and this actually seems to be true.
