Dr. Debashis Sarker is an international development professional and researcher with over 10 years of experience. He holds a PhD in Sociology and social policy from the University of Queensland (world’s top 50th University), Australia. His PhD thesis studied the relationship between access to microfinance and the social and economic empowerment of people with disabilities. His professional key strengths include program development and management, women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, microfinance, FinTech, mobile financial services, financial literacy and client protection, inclusive education and employment, social entrepreneurship, climate co-benefits. He has extensive leadership experience and also worked as a team member within multicultural settings in different countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Germany, Kenya, and for Singapore and Pacific Islands Countries. His research strengths include financial inclusion and poverty, gender, social and economic empowerment of disadvantaged communities including people with disabilities, minorities, inclusive employment and education and entrepreneurship of people with disabilities, and purpose built intergenerational housing. He has extensive experience in conducting, coordinating and implementing international research projects, providing research and administrative support, conducting qualitative interviews, analyzing complex data, and preparing manuscripts for publication. He is skilled in teaching and delivering lectures on social and financial inclusion, disability inclusive development, and equitable development.
