My research mainly focuses on the determinants and consequences of obesity and chronic metabolic diseases, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Our group is establishing cohort studies for type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus to investigate their causes and consequences. I am currently serving as an associate editor for the Am J Clin Nutr, and Nutr & Metab, and on the editorial board for several other international and Chinese journals. I am also the vice chair for the Basic Nutrition Council and Nutritional Epidemiology Council of the Chinese Nutrition Society, and member of the Epidemiology Council of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. I am a commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Obesity and the lead author for the Lancet Obesity in China Series.
