Dr. Saskia van Hemert completed her PhD in 2007 at Wageningen University and Research centre, the Netherlands, with a thesis on 'Gene expression profiling of chicken intestinal host responses'. She then pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the Top Institute Food and Nutrition. From 2009 to 2023, she served as a senior scientist at Winclove Probiotics, leading research projects in various areas related to probiotics and prebiotics, with a particular focus on the gut-brain axis. Her expertise lies in the gut-brain axis, molecular host-microbe interactions, and probiotics and intestinal health. Since January 2024, Saskia has been appointed as Lead Healthy Livestock at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, focusing on collaborations to enhance animal health.
