Patrice D. Cani is full professor of Physiology, Metabolism and Nutrition. He is Honorary Research Director from the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research and group leader in the Metabolism and Nutrition lab at the Louvain Drug Research Institute from the UCLouvain, Brussels, Belgium. He is WELBIO investigator and was recipient of an ERC Starting Grant 2013 and a PoC ERC Grant 2016. He is laureate of several prizes such as the Baillet-Latour grant for medical research, the international prize of Physiology Lucien Dautrebande, the Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research and Creativity from the joint scientific committee of the Academies of Medicine of Belgium and France, and the Council of the JA DeSève Research Chair of Québec, the prize of the AstraZeneca Foundation. He is Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2016. His main research interests are the investigation of interactions between the gut microbiota, the host and specific biological systems such as the endocannabinoid system and the innate immune system in the context of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cancer. He is author and co-author of more than 390 scientific research publications and book chapters (h:index 118, >70 500 citations). He is co-founder of the Belgian Nutrition Society (BNS) and member of several international associations. He is member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium.
