At first I liked these prenatals, until my blood test came back that my vitamin levels were off the charts high!!! My doctor was testing me for autoimmune diseases...that's how worried she was. I went off the vitamins and my levels are slowly going down which is good but I will never take these pills again. So scary, also I had been getting severe stomach cramping and bloating for months and it went away immediately after getting off of these prenatals. Make sure you do your thorough research! This company was bought out by a Monsanto company and are using Synthetic vitamins now, which are so dangerous for your health and the health of your baby growing inside of you. Thankfully I was never pregnant while on these vitamins. Can't imagine what it would've done to a baby

I absolutely love these prenatal vitamins! Originally I was using Rainbow One prenatal vitamins prior to becoming pregnant. Rainbow One is much more affordable and has a fairly good ingredient profile. However, it was always my plan to switch to the New Chapter Perfect Prenatal once I found out I was pregnant. I feel like for 9 months, I can afford this multivitamin. The ingredient profile is incredible! So far I am really enjoying these! They do not cause any discomfort and I have not had any nausea during my pregnancy thus far. At first I was hesitant to taking 3 pills each day, but I've found that taking 2 in the morning and 1 at night works for me. I never forget to take the morning pills, and have a reminder on my phone for the evening pill. Taking one at lunch just doesn't work for my schedule. With the Rainbow One prenatal vitamin, I did notice my urine was a bright, neon yellow after taking the vitamin. This can be from an excess of vitamin B that your body can't absorb, so it excretes it in your urine. With the New Chapter prenatal vitamin this is not the case. Perhaps this is because I spread the vitamins out throughout the day, or because it is a higher quality vitamin. Regardless, it assures me that my body is absorbing the nutrients appropriately and nothing is going to waste. With this being said, I can see myself going back to the Rainbow One prenatal vitamins once our baby arrives, as I'm not sure we can afford this price tag during nursing. I eat an extremely healthy diet, so I may even go off prenatal vitamins entirely at that time

When my husband and I were trying to conceive an OBGYN had given me some prenatal vitamins. He said "try and let me know which you like better". I thought that it was strange to think that you may not like some vitamins, don't they all work the same??? Well, I tried two kinds, both one pill a day. I just remember that one of them was a large green/blue pill. Both actually made my head spin and made my stomach feel very very strange in a bad way! I did not realize how many manufacturers use nasty artificial synthesized ingredients in a product meant to help us make babies!!! So I did a lot of research and found New Chapter. Reviews on Amazon were overwhelmingly positive. I did not mind the price and the dosage either. These did not make me sick in any way and did not have an unpleasant smell (I have used them for almost two years). Who cares if you have to take three pills per day if you know they are the best for you? I tried eating as much organic food as possible in addition to taking these vitamins. Well, my baby was born in June this year. The pregnancy went great - no sickness (don't know if the vitamins helped fend that off). My baby was a bit overdue, but was healthy at birth - got a 10!!! I am still taking these vitamins ( 2 out of 3 every day) while breastfeeding. My baby is meeting all the milestones a bit early. I would HIGHLY recommend these vitamins to all of you out there

I've been taking these for about 6 weeks now and they have not bothered my stomach at all. I also have noticed an increase in my energy level. Previously, I was taking Women's One-a-day for years but I always had to eat before I took it or I would throw up. I have a very sensitive stomach and after reading all of the reviews, it was a major reason that I chose these. I also chose them because they have one of the lowest contaminants of all the major prenatal vitamins (you can compare test results of all the major brands of prenatal and children's vitamins on the FDA's website under food safety[...] As for the "three vitamins a day" that I noticed some reviewers complaining about, YOU CAN TAKE ALL THREE IN ONE SITTING! It's the same as taking one LARGE prenatal vitamin for the prenatals that are dosed at one pill a day! The pill size for these are smaller than my Women's One-a-day and smaller than most daily multi-vitamins. Note: you will absorb more the the vitamin if you spread out your doses during the day. You will need to take additional Calcium with this prenatal because there is less calcium in it so that your body will absorb the iron. So when you take your calcium supplement do not take it at the same time as the prenatal because the calcium blocks some of the iron absorption. I take my calcium in the morning because that is my highest calcium meal to begin with, then I take one prenatal at lunch, one at dinner and one at bed time... if I forget the ones earlier in the day, then I take all of them at bed time (again, no different than taking a single dose prenatal). I also take my fish oil at night. I've found that Nordic naturals have the highest DHA/EPA levels in them, they are expensive but I think it's worth it. I hope that this information helps! Good luck! Update 03/25/12 (above review is from 03/2011): I have been taking these for over a year now (still TTC) and I notice that I feel good while I take them and if I forget for a few days my energy level drops. Also, I forgot them once while travelling and picked up another brand of prenatals at Target but I threw them up along with my breakfast. So I threw out the rest of that brand. As for the "three pills" I try to remember to take them three times/day but sometimes I double up on a dose if I miss one. Overall, you absorb more of it if you can spread them out. I have been very pleased with these vitamins

I never EVER write reviews, but I have been raving about this Prenatal vitamin for the past 2 months ever since I started taking it so I thought I would add my two cents. This prenatal vitamin works wonders for my body. I am a 26 year old female who is trying to conceive. I was taking some lame store-bought vitamins before this (do not take the VitaFusion chewies, the vitamin A is sourced from animals and not good for you or baby long-term).... and when my doctor prescribed me prenatals, I noticed they had a lot of extra baggage in them like dyes and preservatives. I didn't want to put that in my body so I never even took one. I did some research and found New Chapter. The most wonderful thing has happened to me while taking these prenatals. I am someone who normally gets a cold or some kind of illness every 6 weeks at least.... usually more... I usually just feel like crap all the time. Low energy, depression and anxiety, digestive issues, feeling run-down in general. I started taking these in the winter time in NY, and it was a rough winter. I watched my husband go through a nasty cold and several times I thought I caught his cold or some other cold- but I would take the vitamins and wake up in the morning feeling completely fine! I used to take 2 of them at night, and recently changed it to all 3 in the morning, so that I could start the day with a boost. I have a sensitive stomach and these really never mess with my stomach. I also added New Chapter Co-enzyme B food complex, which has given me a HUGE burst of long-lasting energy to the point where my eyes feel like they can see clearer and my head is not in a fog. This is a transformative, life-changing thing for me. I suppose it will vary for each person, depending on if you start out feeling like I felt, or if you're normally a high energy and lively person. I was not and now I'm starting to see that I can be that way simply by adding supplements to my diet. I tell everyone about these vitamins (also recommend the Vitamin B) and I hope more people learn that they don't have to feel bad all the time and there IS a way to give your body the energy it craves. By taking these vitamins and feeling better, it also encourages me to get to the gym and get many more things accomplished in my day. That is why it is life-changing. I no longer need a nap in the middle of the day- what?!!! I will lay down for a nap and then realize I'm not tired so I get up and do more stuff. I have been taking these vitamins for over a year while trying to conceive. They have great reviews and their natural organic composition was very appealing to me. I took them to my doctor at my annual exam last week and I wish I had done so sooner. He was alarmed that the maximum Vitamin A quantity was met as currently studies are out about the excessive in take of vitamin A and birth defects. Secondly, they only give 75% of the daily recommended dosage of folic acid (1000 mcg is recommended) for pregnant women. Their large size and over all make up was also a concern for him. He said often times your body can breakdown these pills too quickly and you don't actually get to absorb the nutrients. Not to mention you have to take three huge horse pills that taste horrible! You also need to take a DHA supplement with this vitamin. My overall sentiment is talk to your doctor about taking any kind of supplement before, during, and/or after pregnancy and make informed decisions. As an expectant father, I was very happy to find out my wife and I are expecting a baby next spring. As a loving husband and future-parent, I wanted the BEST for my child. But because I am new to fatherhood, I went to Google to search for the BEST prenatal vitamin for my wife. Of all the ones that came up via several parenting sites and forums, New Chapter was one of the top ones on everyone's list. The only place that had them locally was Whole Foods. While I normally don't shop there, Whole Foods are extremely health-focused, so it made sense to look to compare what they had. After 45 minutes of sitting on the floor comparing the ingredients of all their prenatal vitamins, one gentleman with his wife (who looked like she was about to pop) picked these up. I asked him why he chose those over the other various brands available at Whole Foods and he said it was the only one that didn't make his wife sick and he said she tried all of them. He also said that these were made of whole foods, so it's good for her. In addition to what that guy said, of all the ones at Whole Foods, these were the only ones that didn't have any fish-related ingredients. Anything fish-based makes my wife EXTREMELY nauseous. Then we went to our doctor for our first visit after her pregnancy test. I showed our doctor the prenatal vitamins and she said these were good BUT we needed DHA for our baby's development. Rather than buying a whole new prenatal vitamin with DHA, we decided to keep taking these since we knew it didn't make my wife sick (even on an empty stomach). I went back to Whole Foods to look for a DHA supplement. Of all the ones at Whole Foods, the only one that wasn't fish-based was Spectrum Essentials Prenatal DHA Softgels, 200 mg SoftGels, 60 Count Bottle . My wife absolutely adores both the Spectrum DHA and New Chapter prenatal vitamins. By taking both, we have the peace of mind that these two supplements are providing everything that our baby needs and my wife is EXTREMELY happy that she is able to take both pills, even on an empty stomach and have no sickness/nausea whatsoever. There is no bad taste and the smell of these pills are actually pleasing. Icing on the cake is that my wife's skin and nails grow EXTREMELY fast. While I wouldn't think that as a pro, she loves it. Having gone through an entire first bottle already, when i went back to Whole Foods, I was alarmed to see that they were $65 (I bought them on sale last with the initial purchase). I ended up buying our 2nd batch of pills through Amazon, which had them for nearly half the price

I researched all kinds of prenatals and the MAIN REASON was because of Folic Acid. We did a lot of research on folic acid when my husband had a kidney transplant and they made him take it. Studies show that use of folic acid in men and women leads to higher risks of cancer later in life, especially breast and prostate. So, I went out and bought a natural source of folic acid from lemons. Organic and all of that good stuff. Then I did more reading and realized it was still JUST folic acid, though they stated it was from lemons, they still added the chemical mimic of folate. Folate is found naturally in foods, so I'm not jazzed on this fake derivative (as if you can't tell). ; ) So, the great news is that this brand does actually list "folate", which is highly encouraged, since it's in it's natural form. I recommend taking with food and one pill at a time. I can only take 2 pills a day, because when I take 3, it gives me gastrointestinal problems. I will also never take 2 at the same time, or on an empty stomach ever again. I also use a fish oil supplement with DHA and try to eat as healthy as possible and continue exercising. But, this brand is by far top notch. PLEASE don't let them throw you pills at your doctors office and pharmacy. It's obvious that doctors and drug companies are all in bed together and the product they give you is made of the cheapest stuff and is not properly tested. For instance, most levels of that awesome folic acid, in over the counter prenatals, can be up to 800 and 1000mg. You should NOT be consuming this much, considering it is in every bread and cracker you eat, because the government stepped in and decided they needed to supplement it in our foods in the early 90's. Kind of funny, that autism rates also started spiking during those very years. So, my motto is "Know what you're putting in your body"!!

When I first got pregnant I bought a cheap prenatal vitamin at Walmart and soon realized that it was making me very constipated. After we met and decided on going through a Midwife, she asked if I was having any issues and suggested this if I was constipated. I ordered this almost immediately and I am so glad I did. The one from Walmart was a man made iron which is what was making me act up. This is a whole food/natural form of iron so it doesn't make me act up at all. I love that I can take it with or without food. The first trimester could be challenging at times because of how large the pill is, I never threw up from it, but I definitely gagged a lot more when taking the pills. After the first trimester was over, I haven't had any gagging problems. Yes it would be easier to take one pill a day and not worry with it, but it makes me feel good knowing that my baby is getting nutrients through out the day and not just once a day. I definitely suggest a pill box or vitamin remembering system if you are one for pregnancy brain like I am. There are many days that I couldn't remember how many I had taken--I am sure my baby received an extra pill a handful of times throughout my pregnancy. I would recommend this to any mom to be. It is totally worth the cost
