We set out to investigate the potential of garlic derivatives as an alternative treatment for ear infections. With antibiotic resistance on the rise, finding new ways to combat these infections has become increasingly crucial.
Our study focused on the antimicrobial properties of four garlic compounds: allicin, s-allyl cysteine (SAC), diallyl disulfide (DADS), and s-allyl mercaptocysteine (SAMC). By using the broth microdilution method, we tested how effectively these compounds could inhibit the growth of bacteria and yeasts that commonly cause ear infections.
We were excited to find that both allicin and SAC demonstrated impressive antimicrobial activity, even at low concentrations. This opens up the possibility that these garlic derivatives could be used in the future to treat infections in the ear. However, DADS and SAMC showed considerably less effectiveness, particularly SAMC, which did not showcase any significant impact against the tested microorganisms.
Overall, our findings suggest that garlic derivatives, particularly allicin and SAC, could represent a promising direction in the search for new treatments for ear infections.

We conducted a study to explore whether Echinacea purpurea, a popular herbal remedy, could help prevent ear infections in children prone to recurrent otitis media. The research involved a randomized, placebo-controlled trial where ninety young children between 12 and 60 months participated. They were divided into four groups, either receiving Echinacea with or without osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), or placebos for both.
Over six months, we observed that treating colds with Echinacea did not significantly reduce the risk of developing acute otitis media. In fact, there is some indication that it may actually increase the risk of these infections. Similarly, the osteopathic manipulative treatments offered during the study did not provide any significant benefits in preventing ear infections either.

Super Joint Relief is excellent collagen for maintaining cartilage and connective tissue. It contains hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, and chondroitin, though these may not be necessary. I alternate it with type 1.3 collagen, and my mother uses it from early spring to mid-autumn. Overall, my back and knees hurt significantly less. The ache in my knee during activity has also subsided. It's effective! Remember to take it on an empty stomach, an hour before meals. The jar suggests two capsules twice daily, but the website seems to incorrectly state two per day.
