Alliaceous aromas induce migraines
Alliaceous migraines.
We observed an interesting case of a 32-year-old woman suffering from migraines triggered exclusively by a combination of garlic and onion aromas. She experienced severe symptoms, including visual disturbances and extreme headaches, following exposure to these scents.
Through various tests, we confirmed her sensitivity to these aromas and explored potential treatments. Notably, using peppermint and nose plugs effectively prevented her headaches and associated symptoms.
This case highlights the unique connection between migraine triggers and sensory responses, suggesting counter-stimulation might be a valuable preventive strategy.

Excellent! I adore it; it's one of the best essential oils. The mint scent is relaxing and refreshing. My advice for those with migraines is to apply a drop on each side of the head, behind the neck, and behind the ears. It significantly alleviates pain without needing painkillers, but be careful to avoid contact with the eyes.

This essential oil from Now Foods has an excellent fragrant mint aroma. It invigorates and provides a cooling effect on the skin. I use it in diffusers, hair masks, and even in cleaning solutions. It effectively relieves migraines when applied to the temples, and when diluted with a carrier oil, it has multiple uses. I love incorporating this oil into my daily routine.

MSM improves migraine management
Acute migraine medication adherence, migraine disability and patient satisfaction: A naturalistic daily diary study.
We aimed to understand how adherence to migraine-specific medications (MSMs) influences migraine-related disability and patient satisfaction. Over three months, 337 participants used daily electronic diaries to track their migraine experiences, including the medications they took and their satisfaction with these treatments.
It was insightful to see that participants took their acute medications on a staggering 96.5% of the days they recorded migraines. Among the medications used, MSMs were the most common at 58%, followed by over-the-counter analgesics and opiates/barbiturates. We found that people tended to reach for medication when their pain was mild most often.
Our analysis showed that when individuals used MSMs during mild pain, they experienced the least daily disability and reported the highest satisfaction with their medications. This implies that using MSMs earlier, especially at the onset of milder symptoms, can significantly improve a patient's overall experience with migraines.
In conclusion, our study highlights the benefits of starting treatment with MSMs for better outcomes in managing migraine-related challenges and achieving greater satisfaction with acute medication usage.

Potassium channels induce migraines
Activation of ATP-sensitive potassium channels triggers migraine attacks independent of calcitonin gene-related peptide receptors: a randomized placebo-controlled trial.
We explored the question of whether levcromakalim, a potassium channel opener, can induce migraine attacks in individuals already treated with erenumab, a CGRP receptor antibody. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, participants received injections of both levcromakalim and placebo to compare their effects on migraine frequency.
Our findings revealed that levcromakalim led to significantly more migraine attacks within 12 hours compared to placebo, with 88% of participants experiencing attacks after the potassium infusion. This suggests that potassium channels can trigger migraines independently of CGRP activation.

ALA shows promise for migraines
The beneficial effect of Alpha-lipoic acid supplementation as a potential adjunct treatment in episodic migraines.
We evaluated how alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) supplementation impacts women suffering from episodic migraines. In a random, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 92 participants, those taking 300 mg of ALA daily reported significant improvements in headache severity, frequency, and impact. They also showed decreased levels of lactate and VCAM-1, suggesting enhancements in mitochondrial and endothelial functions. However, no notable changes occurred regarding nitric oxide levels and migraine duration. Overall, ALA may serve as a helpful adjunctive treatment for migraine relief.

Magnesium reduces migraine symptoms
Magnesium and Migraine.
We explored how magnesium supplementation can help alleviate migraines, a condition that affects countless individuals and can be incredibly disabling. Research has shown a strong link between magnesium deficiency and various factors that contribute to migraines, such as neurological changes and inflammation.
Studies, including randomized controlled trials, indicate that magnesium can reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks, both in the short term and as a preventative measure. This effectiveness is thought to stem from magnesium's ability to influence nerve function and reduce stress responses in the body.
We've examined the accumulating evidence from case studies and clinical trials, and it clearly points to magnesium being a valuable option for those suffering from migraines. By addressing magnesium deficiency, we may offer a new avenue for relief and improved management of this challenging condition.

Vitamin A's complex role in migraines
Retinol-binding protein-4 and hs-CRP levels in patients with migraine.
We set out to explore the relationship between vitamin A, specifically through retinol-binding protein-4 (RBP4), and migraine. Our study included 48 migraine patients and 40 individuals matched by age and gender who did not suffer from migraines. By measuring the levels of RBP4 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), we aimed to understand the inflammatory nature of migraine and how vitamin A might influence it.
Notably, we found that migraine patients had significantly lower levels of RBP4 compared to the control group, while showing elevated hs-CRP levels. This reflects an inflammatory state often associated with migraines. However, the severity, frequency, and duration of migraine attacks did not correlate with the levels of either RBP4 or hs-CRP, suggesting that simply having lower RBP4 or higher hs-CRP might not directly contribute to migraine severity or characteristics.
Overall, while our findings highlight a notable difference in the blood markers of migraine sufferers, they do not provide evidence that vitamin A treatment would directly benefit migraine management. Further research could still explore the broader implications of vitamin A's anti-inflammatory properties and their potential role in migraine.

Vitamin D helps reduce migraines
Vitamin D supplementation for the treatment of migraine: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.
We explored the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation for treating migraines. Our analysis focused on several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to examine how effective vitamin D could be in alleviating migraine symptoms.
Through our review, we included six RCTs involving 301 patients. The results were quite promising. Vitamin D supplementation significantly reduced the number of headache attacks per month and the number of headache days experienced by patients. Additionally, it improved the MIDAS score, which measures the impact of migraines on daily life.
However, it's important to note that vitamin D did not show a significant effect on how long migraine attacks lasted or the severity of the headaches. Overall, our findings suggest that while vitamin D might be beneficial for reducing certain migraine-related symptoms, it isn’t a miracle cure for everyone.

However, we need to note that the study had an open-label design and a limited sample size. While the findings are encouraging, they do not establish definitive effectiveness, requiring further research for confirmation.

Eicosapentaenoic acid helps migraines
A 12-week randomized double-blind clinical trial of eicosapentaenoic acid intervention in episodic migraine.
We conducted a thorough investigation into how eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) can impact episodic migraines. In a carefully designed study, we gathered 70 participants who experienced these migraines and divided them into two groups. One group received a high dose of EPA, while the other was given a placebo. This approach ensured that we could see the true effects of EPA without bias.
After 12 weeks, the results were compelling. We noticed that those taking EPA had significantly fewer migraine days compared to the placebo group. In fact, participants on EPA reported an average reduction of 4.4 days per month, while those on the placebo had barely any change. The EPA group also experienced less need for acute headache medication and marked improvements in headache severity, disability, anxiety, depression, and overall quality of life.
Perhaps most striking was how particularly beneficial EPA seemed to be for female participants. Overall, the study demonstrated that high-dose EPA not only helped reduce the frequency and severity of migraines but also positively influenced the psychological aspects of living with migraines.
This suggests that incorporating EPA into migraine management could be a valuable option for those suffering from episodic migraines, especially as there were no major adverse effects reported.

Zinc reduces migraine symptoms
Assessing the Effect of Zinc Supplementation on the Frequency of Migraine Attack, Duration, Severity, Lipid Profile and hs-CRP in Adult Women.
This study was designed as a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to examine how zinc gluconate supplementation might alleviate migraine symptoms in adult women. We followed 60 women, averaging about 35 years old, who either received 15 mg of zinc per day or a placebo for a duration of 12 weeks.
Over the trial, we observed significant improvements in those taking zinc. The frequency of migraine attacks, as well as the duration and severity of the headaches, drastically decreased for participants receiving zinc. We used various assessments, such as a numerical rating scale and the Migraine Disability Assessment test, to evaluate these changes.
Additionally, zinc supplementation showed a notable reduction in levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), both of which are associated with inflammation. However, no significant changes in triglycerides or high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels were seen. After taking initial values into account, the changes in lipid levels and hs-CRP weren’t significant.
Overall, we found that zinc supplementation can beneficially impact migraine symptoms, reducing their severity and frequency among women. This offers a promising direction for migraine management without the side effects often associated with traditional medications.

Examining taurine's effect on migraines
Taurine levels in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid in migraine patients.
We explored how taurine, an amino acid known for its potential role as a neurotransmitter, affects migraine by examining its levels in both plasma and cerebrospinal fluid during migraine attacks. The study compared these levels in migraine patients to a control group without migraines.
Interestingly, we found that patients with migraines had significantly higher levels of taurine compared to those in the control group. This observation suggests that there might be a unique response involving taurine during migraine episodes.
Additionally, we noted that in patients suffering from classic migraines, higher plasma taurine levels correlated with a decrease in headache severity. This could indicate that taurine may play a protective or regulatory role during migraine attacks, possibly as part of the body's own defensive mechanisms.
However, it's worth mentioning that the study did not report any significant differences based on age or sex, and more research will be necessary to fully understand the implications of these findings. Overall, our investigation adds a layer of insight into the complex relationship between taurine and migraine but also underscores the need for further exploration in this area.

We delved into the relationship between migraine and vitamins known to lower homocysteine levels, specifically B6, folate, and B12. Our systematic search revealed twelve articles, indicating that while managing acute migraines didn’t yield strong results, B6 supplementation showed significant benefits in preventing migraine with aura when compared to placebo.
Unfortunately, folate alone didn’t perform better than placebo for migraines, and data on migraines without aura was limited. Overall, these vitamins seem to have a safe profile, especially for migraine with aura in adults, although more high-quality trials are needed for broader conclusions.

Iron's impact on migraine relief
Iron Deficiency Anemia and Migraine: A Literature Review of the Prevalence, Pathophysiology, and Therapeutic Potential.
We examined the link between iron deficiency anemia and migraines to understand how iron levels affect migraine symptoms. Our research confirmed that individuals suffering from migraines, especially women, tend to have lower iron levels. This suggests a significant relationship where low iron may worsen migraine frequency and intensity.
Through our literature review, we discovered that iron supplementation has been beneficial for some migraine sufferers, particularly those with diagnosed iron deficiency anemia. By increasing iron levels, we noted improvements in migraine symptoms, making it a potential treatment strategy worth considering.
However, we also highlighted that while iron supplementation shows promise, it’s essential to approach treatment carefully. Further research is necessary to determine the long-term effects and to establish guidelines on its use, minimizing any risks of iron overload. Overall, we advocate for incorporating nutritional evaluations into migraine management strategies to enhance patient outcomes effectively.

It has a strong smell. Used in combination with vitamin E, my migraines have reduced considerably, which I find satisfying. However, the scent resembles that of a rotten egg. This is attributed to the nature of selenium, which is consistent across various products. Yet, when the odour is overwhelming, it can be hard to manage. Additionally, there's a slight concern that the capsule might stick upon swallowing, although it is smaller compared to others available in Japan. This has led to some dissatisfaction with tablet types from different brands.

Folate intake reduces migraine frequency
Association between dietary folate intake and severe headache or migraine in adults: a cross-sectional study of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
We set out to explore how dietary folate intake might influence severe headaches and migraines. Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected between 1999 and 2004, we included a substantial sample of 4,107 participants in our analysis.
Our findings revealed that 704 individuals, which represents about 17.14%, reported experiencing severe headaches or migraines. After accounting for various factors, we found a noteworthy association between higher folate intake and reduced occurrences of these conditions. Specifically, the results showed that increasing levels of dietary folate were linked to a lower odds ratio of experiencing migraines—particularly pronounced among those with the highest folate intake.
The data suggested a linear and negative relationship, meaning that as folate intake increased, the likelihood of suffering from migraines decreased. This trend remained consistent across different analysis methods, indicating a robust connection worth noting for those seeking dietary strategies to manage or potentially reduce migraine occurrences.

Vitamin B12 deficiency and migraines
The correlation between vitamin B12 serum levels and migraine: a case-control study.
We examined the connection between vitamin B12 serum levels and migraine, both chronic and episodic. In our study, we compared two groups: 90 individuals suffering from migraines and 90 healthy participants. We measured the serum vitamin B12 levels of all subjects using a method known as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Our findings showed that those with migraines had notably lower levels of vitamin B12 compared to the healthy control group. Specifically, chronic migraine patients had even lower serum vitamin B12 levels than those with episodic migraines. Additionally, we found a significant negative link between lower vitamin B12 levels and the severity of migraine attacks.
This indicates that individuals with vitamin B12 deficiency may experience more severe migraine symptoms. The results suggest a strong association between low vitamin B12 levels and migraines, pointing to a potential area for further research. We believe that exploring this relationship through interventional studies could offer valuable insights into migraine treatments.

Pain relief

After knee surgery, I was prescribed various painkillers, yet I still experienced a bad headache and ocular migraine. Upon discovering that some pain medications could elevate homocysteine levels, I took this supplement along with a B12 spray. Within 30 minutes, my headache dissipated.

Melatonin may reduce migraine frequency
The association between melatonin and episodic migraine: A pilot network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to compare the prophylactic effects with exogenous melatonin supplementation and pharmacotherapy.
We explored whether melatonin can effectively prevent migraines by analyzing data from 25 randomized controlled trials, involving nearly 4,500 participants.
The findings suggested that taking 3 mg of oral melatonin at bedtime could reduce the frequency of migraine days and had a favorable response rate compared to a placebo.
Notably, melatonin was regarded as one of the better options when considering overall effectiveness and tolerability. These results highlight melatonin's potential as a helpful preventive treatment for those struggling with episodic migraines.

The neurologist prescribed medication for increased intracranial pressure for my adult son. In our pharmacy, tablets for 28 days cost 1400 rubles. I later found an analogue on iHerb, obtaining pills for three months for 500 rubles. I'm delighted! This excellent medication significantly reduces the frequency of my migraine attacks and seems particularly effective for those suffering from increased intracranial pressure.

Thanks to this supplement, I was able to stop using sumatriptan for my migraines with aura. I often experienced unexpected attacks that affected my vision and speech, alongside terrible photophobia and pain. After reading about Choline and Inositol, I began taking them. Although some migraine symptoms reduced, the pain remained until the next day. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with this supplement.

Recommended! I had suffered from severe fatigue for over a decade, unable to manage housework or work at times. Despite normal test results and medications, nothing improved my condition. I began searching for a supplement focused on liver health. I found Silymarin from Now Foods, an herb known for liver treatment abroad. After starting the supplement, my life transformed. My energy levels increased, allowing me to manage household chores and work from home. My fatigue decreased, my mood improved, and headaches (migraines) were eliminated. Although I'm not yet fully healthy, I'm feeling brighter and appreciative of this product.

This year, I suffered from menstrual irregularities since junior high, with severe migraines before and after. After taking this, my periods stabilised significantly. It’s surprising how much my cycle has improved, even under stress. Night shifts do not affect me like they used to. This product has truly restored my body’s cycle, and even if I tried other remedies, none had the same effect. I initially bought it for migraine relief, but now appreciate its overall impact on my cycle.
