IP6 potentially prevents prostate cancer
Stage-Specific Effect of Inositol Hexaphosphate on Cancer Stem Cell Pool during Growth and Progression of Prostate Tumorigenesis in TRAMP Model.
We evaluated how inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), a natural compound found in various foods, influences the growth and development of prostate cancer in a special group of mice known as TRAMP. The study involved feeding these male mice either regular water or water containing 2% IP6 at different stages of their growth – starting at 4, 12, 20, and 30 weeks of age – for a period of about 8 to 15 weeks.
Pathological evaluations at the end of the study revealed some encouraging results. The IP6 treatment seemed to halt tumor progression earlier on, and it significantly reduced the incidence of more severe forms of the disease by around 55% to 70%. This finding suggests that IP6 could have a crucial role in preventing prostate cancer from advancing in severity.
Furthermore, we explored the effects of IP6 on cancer stem cells (CSCs), a small group of cells within tumors that can drive cancer growth. The results indicated that IP6 might help in reducing these CSCs in prostate tumors. In laboratory tests, we also found that IP6 treatment dramatically decreased the number of floating prostate cancer stem cell clusters by approximately 90%.
Overall, these findings suggest that IP6 holds significant promise as a preventive measure against prostate cancer, particularly at earlier stages of the disease.

We set out to understand how vitamin D signaling within prostate cancer tumors might impact patient outcomes, particularly the risk of developing lethal forms of the disease. In our exploration, we analyzed data from 404 men with primary prostate cancer over a long follow-up period, assessing specific gene expressions linked to vitamin D in their tumor tissues.
Our findings revealed a noteworthy trend: the activation of vitamin D signaling in tumors was associated with a lower chance of progressing to lethal prostate cancer. Specifically, men with higher scores indicating active vitamin D signaling had a significantly reduced risk of metastasis or prostate cancer-related death compared to those with lower scores.
Interestingly, this protective association appeared to be stronger in individuals with predicted higher levels of vitamin D in their blood and those who had a body mass index of 25 or higher. With our research providing a clearer picture of how vitamin D functions within tumors, we believe there’s a solid basis for considering vitamin D interventions as potential strategies to enhance survival outcomes for prostate cancer patients.

Excellent, but difficult to swallow (a little thinner and "sharper" ends). Excellent vitamins. I take 1 at breakfast and 1 at dinner alongside the "Health of the prostate gland" supplement (also 1 + 1). For decades, I had pain in the prostate. Since I began taking these two supplements, the pain has subsided (though a constant cystostomy since 2015 helped as well by managing harmful residual urine). Aimed at lifelong use (I'm 75).

We explored the potential of Toosendanin (TSN) as a treatment for prostate cancer (PCa) in our recent investigation. By examining the effects of TSN on prostate cancer cells, specifically DU145 and LNCaP, we observed notable changes in cell behaviors. TSN treatment significantly reduced cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while enhancing apoptosis—essentially pushing cancer cells towards a self-destructive path.
Our analysis further showed that TSN promotes a type of cell death known as ferroptosis and encourages M1 polarization, which is a process that can help recruit immune cells to fight cancer. We dug deeper into the mechanisms at play, discovering that Toosendanin lowers the levels of a protein called USP39, which is linked to the growth and stability of another protein called PLK1. This suggests that TSN might halt cancer progression by disrupting this harmful interplay.
In our studies, we also employed various techniques, including flow cytometry and western blotting, to confirm our findings. At the end of our research, we confirmed that TSN not only effectively slows down tumor growth but does so by targeting the USP39/PLK1 pathway. Contribution of Pyk2 pathway and reactive oxygen species (ROS) to the anti-cancer effects of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in PC3 prostate cancer cells.
We investigated how eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) influences prostate cancer cells, particularly focusing on its effects on PC3 prostate cancer cells. To understand this, we treated the cells with various concentrations of EPA and monitored their survival, migration, and invasion abilities over time.
Our findings revealed that EPA reduces the survival rate of PC3 cells in a dose-dependent manner, showing significant effectiveness at a concentration of 500 μmol/L within just three hours of treatment. Moreover, we observed that EPA inhibits key cellular pathways linked to cancer cell growth, particularly the phosphorylation of a protein known as Pyk2. Interestingly, even though EPA affected Pyk2, this action occurred independently of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, while growth inhibition appeared to depend significantly on the induction of ROS.
Overall, our research highlighted how the combined inhibition of Pyk2 and ROS contribute to the anti-cancer properties of EPA. This suggests that EPA could be a valuable component in therapeutic strategies for combating prostate cancer.

Coenzyme Q differentially modulates phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase gene expression and free radicals production in malignant and non-malignant prostate cells.
We explored the effects of coenzyme Q10 on prostate cancer by investigating its impact on two cell lines: PNT2, which is non-cancerous, and PC3, which is cancerous. Our focus was on how this supplement influenced the levels of a specific protein called PHGPx and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are often linked to cancer progression.
We observed that the cancerous PC3 cells reacted quite differently to coenzyme Q10 compared to the non-cancerous PNT2 cells. There were no noticeable changes in the levels of PHGPx in the PC3 cells, yet we recorded a significant increase in ROS production. Additionally, coenzyme Q10 supplementation was found to reduce the growth of the cancerous PC3 line but did not impact the growth of the non-malignant PNT2 cells.
These findings suggest that coenzyme Q10 might offer a novel approach in cancer therapy, specifically for prostate cancer. However, further investigations are necessary to confirm these results before considering any clinical applications.

My family is on our second can now! Initially, our doctor was sceptical about our improvement until he reviewed the tests.
