Silybine lowers blood pressure in rats[General pharmacologic properties of silybine and silymarine in the rat].
We examined how silybine, the active ingredient in Silybum marianum, impacts blood pressure based on research conducted on normal albino rats. We found that even at low doses, silybine effectively lowers systemic blood pressure without causing increased vascular permeability.
Interestingly, it also helps counteract anaphylactic shocks and stabilize cell membranes, preventing histamine release. However, further studies are needed to fully understand its potential effects on hypertension in humans.

Silybin lowers blood pressure effectivelySilybin induces endothelium-dependent vasodilation via TRPV4 channels in mouse mesenteric arteries.
We explored how silybin, a compound from Silybum marianum, affects blood pressure and vascular function. Our research included molecular docking experiments and measurements of calcium concentrations to understand its interaction with TRPV4 channels in small arteries.
We found that in mice with high salt-induced hypertension, silybin effectively lowered systolic blood pressure and improved blood vessel response. This suggests silybin could play a role in promoting better vascular health and preventing related cardiovascular issues.

Milk thistle oil alleviates hypertensionMilk thistle seed cold press oil attenuates markers of the metabolic syndrome in a mouse model of dietary-induced obesity.
We explored the effects of milk thistle cold press oil, derived from Silybum marianum, on obesity-related hypertension in mice. In this study, mice fed a high-fat diet were treated with the oil for the last eight weeks.
The results showed that the oil significantly reduced hypertension, obesity, and hyperglycemia, while also improving markers of inflammation and liver fibrosis. These findings suggest that milk thistle oil may be a helpful natural treatment for managing symptoms related to metabolic syndrome, including hypertension.
