We examined how acetyl-L-carnitine influences hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on its impact on liver mitochondria. In our study, we measured the amount of messenger RNA for cytochrome oxidase subunit I in the livers of hypothyroid rats.
After treating the rats with acetyl-L-carnitine, we observed a significant increase in the mRNA levels just three hours post-treatment. This improvement in gene expression suggests that acetyl-L-carnitine may promote mitochondrial function even in altered metabolic states.
Interestingly, even rats that were pre-treated with T3, a thyroid hormone, showed similar positive effects when administered acetyl-L-carnitine. These findings lend further support to the idea that acetyl-L-carnitine can stimulate important processes in mitochondria, especially under conditions like hypothyroidism.

Dopamine overload

Warning: This supplement may lead to dopamine overload in some individuals – it triggered a severe depressive and anxious episode for me, which I managed with 5-HTP. It can also affect thyroid function and lead to symptoms of hypothyroidism, which I am currently experiencing. Note that ALCAR has a long half-life of 28.9 - 35.9 hours, resulting in quick accumulation in the body.

Excellent! While some individuals may not respond well to hypothyroidism, I appreciate it as it boosts my energy levels. The size is also convenient to consume.

Necessary supplement
I came across a physician's blog stating that this is an essential supplement for individuals with hypothyroidism due to their slow metabolism. L-carnitine enhances energy in cells, and I intend to start taking it.

Slight improvement
Magnificent! I have hypothyroidism and decided to try this supplement after hearing praise for it. I have only been on it for a month and am noticing a slight improvement regarding symptoms of hypothyroidism. I will take a test soon for more reassurance.
