We investigated whether high-dose vitamin D supplements could lessen flu symptoms in preschool kids during winter. In a study with 703 healthy children aged 1 to 5 in Toronto, we randomly assigned them to either high-dose (2000 IU/day) or standard-dose (400 IU/day) vitamin D.

Unfortunately, our findings revealed that high doses did not lead to any improvement in flu symptom severity, nor did it reduce doctor visits, emergency room trips, or antibiotic prescriptions. Overall, it appears that sticking to the standard recommended dose is advisable for managing flu symptoms in children.

Is this suitable for my child? Vitamin D3 influences the immune system's activity. Adequate vitamin D3 intake can reduce the incidence of acute respiratory infections and flu. With fewer sunny days during colder weather, it's important to obtain this sunlight vitamin from food and supplements. This product contains D3 (cholecalciferol), though the source isn't specified; however, its NSF certificate assures quality. Children aged 4-8 should take 600 IU (15 μg) per drop. Consult a doctor before giving it to younger children. Each bottle has 100 drops. It’s advisable to take one drop in the morning to boost the child's activity. Store it upright in a cool, dark place.
