In short, this particular magnesium from Doctors Best has been working out great for me. Already repurchased
I have used all sorts of magnesium supplements over the years. I use it primarily to help me sleep. It is a bit of trial and error finding a brand, a formulation, and a chelate that works best. If I need magnesium during day then I dont really care what it is. But for sleep? Some work better than others. If it works well then I am ready to nod off within 45 minutes. If try to take more, then I am risking a need to use the bathroom. Too much mag will have a laxative effect. I have used the low absorbancy oxide with success and I have used the highly absorbed glycinate with unimpressive results. I have used a couple of brands that use a mix of magnesium chelates with great success, and have been using one or the other for a few years now.
What brought me to try Doctors Best High Absorption Magnesium Lysinate Glycinate? Because I was running low on my other brand, and because I am used to using magnesium then I would know if this was effective or not nearly instantly. I figured at worst it would be the same, or find I have to take more. Funny, I think when I have searched for mag before I passed these over because I thought the dose too low, and not worthy. But... Well.. my experience has bee quite favorable.
I like that the amount of actual magnesium is listed. I dont always see that and I dont always understand how this all works. So when I say "105 mg" of magnesium I at first laughed. I was used to using 1000-1500 mg every night. (btw, start low and slow if new to mag supplementation). Then I saw 1050mg from chelates. I figured that is what I was typically seeing on bottles (and unless listed otherwise, I will keep in mind that the likely actual elemental mag amount is 10% of the chelated mag). I think I am learning that my prior dose was still too low but would need to spread out during the day less I have explosion from stomach upset. And so, I took two caps-- curious how it would impact me. I DID NOT expect to feel the lull of sleep. It was in comparison to a lower dose. I wasn't buying cheap products either.. I have kept with it nightly thinking it could be an anomaly, but the same experience (relaxed, increasing tiredness) has occurred every night since starting this 10 days ago. And I have just been taking 2 caps. SO less than what I was taking. Unless I experience otherwise, I will be continuing with this. Within the first couple of nights I could tell this was a winner for me, and I have already purchased 2 more bottles. I do not go to sleep without my mag!!
So I am surprised by how I feel with this, and that it indeed helps me fall asleep. I was initially concerned with the amount (what I perceived as low) but it is in fact compared to others about right (usually my others say 500mg but that is not elemental, elemental would be 50mg-- and these about the same per capsule). What works for me may not work for you
