We explored how nattokinase, a serine protease derived from the traditional food natto, can benefit individuals who have experienced strokes, particularly focusing on cognitive recovery. Our study specifically aimed to uncover whether nattokinase can act as an anti-post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) agent by influencing blood factors that are crucial for brain health.
The results were telling. We discovered that nattokinase has protective effects against acute ischemic strokes and plays a significant role in promoting neurogenesis, which is the process of generating new brain cells. Through experiments conducted on rat models, we observed that nattokinase notably increases irisin levels in peripheral blood. Irisin is a protein that has emerged as an interesting player in enhancing cognitive functions.
By linking the increased levels of irisin to improved cognitive abilities, our findings suggest that nattokinase could be a promising therapy for those suffering from PSCI, positioning irisin as a potential target for treatment. Overall, our research highlights the exciting possibilities that nattokinase offers in the realm of stroke recovery and brain health.

Nattokinase shows promise in stroke
Nattokinase's Neuroprotective Mechanisms in Ischemic Stroke: Targeting Inflammation, Oxidative Stress, and Coagulation.
We examined how nattokinase (NK), a powerful enzyme, can benefit patients who suffer from strokes. Our research focused on the effects of NK in a model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO), which simulates ischemic stroke and its aftermath. By administering different doses of NK to rats before they underwent surgery, we wanted to see if it could reduce brain damage and improve recovery.
Our observations revealed that NK treatment significantly reduced the size of brain injury and enhanced recovery from neurological issues. It also helped lower levels of harmful pro-inflammatory and coagulation substances while reducing oxidative stress markers in the affected brain area. These findings show NK’s potential in protecting the brain from the damaging effects of stroke.
Furthermore, we explored NK's protective properties in laboratory tests simulating neuron injury due to lack of oxygen and glucose. We found that it was effective in countering cell death across these models, working through various biological pathways. However, when we blocked NK's activity with a specific inhibitor, we noticed that its protective effects vanished, demonstrating that NK's enzymatic activity is crucial for its benefits.
Overall, this study highlights the multi-faceted protective role of nattokinase in brain injuries caused by ischemic events, confirming its potential as a therapeutic agent in stroke treatment.

Nattospes aids stroke recovery safely
Nattospes as Effective and Safe Functional Supplements in Management of Stroke.
We conducted a single-blinded randomized controlled trial involving 61 patients recovering from ischemic stroke. We tested Nattospes as a supplement alongside standard treatments such as electroacupuncture.
After 60 days, both the Nattospes and control groups showed significant improvements in physical activities, blood pressure, and quality of life. While Nattospes demonstrated beneficial effects on stroke symptoms, it’s important to note that no adverse effects were reported.
The results suggest that Nattospes can safely support stroke recovery. These findings encourage further research into Nattospes as a potential supplement in cardiovascular disease management.

After having a carotid artery stroke in March 2012, I weaned off my blood thinner. Instead of low dose aspirin, I tried Dr Best Nattokinase. I experienced no side effects, no follow-on strokes or TIAs. While I did notice that cuts took longer to coagulate, excessive anti-coagulation can lead to issues as well. Those on Coumadin should consult their doctor before using this product.

This is not Shawn; I am his wife. I looked into this product after my mother had a mild stroke. She is diabetic and had a heart attack years ago. A friend recommended this alongside Serrapeptase for cholesterol management. It works well while making dietary changes and exercising to support recovery. Just remember not to take it with blood thinners.

After suffering a stroke and being prescribed daily Aspirin by my doctor, I switched to this product based on a colleague's recommendation. Since replacing it with Dr Best, I’ve had no issues with bleeding or hemorrhoids. I would definitely recommend it.

Nattokinase effective in atherosclerosis management
[A clinical study on the effect of nattokinase on carotid artery atherosclerosis and hyperlipidaemia].
We investigated how nattokinase, an oral supplement, impacts carotid artery health and lipid levels in patients. Over 26 weeks, participants were randomly assigned to receive either nattokinase or statins. Both groups saw reductions in carotid artery thickness and plaque size, but nattokinase outperformed statins in plaque reduction.
While both treatments lowered cholesterol and triglyceride levels, statins achieved greater reductions. Interestingly, nattokinase raised good cholesterol levels, unlike statins. Our study suggests that nattokinase could be a promising alternative in managing atherosclerosis and reducing stroke risk.

This is a good product, but do NOT take it with aspirin. By all accounts, it shows promise as a natural blood thinner and may help combat biofilm linked to several diseases. However, you must take precautions, as some patients have experienced issues when combining it with other blood thinners. Avoid mixing it with aspirin or other similar products to reduce the risk of stroke.

This seems to be a good product at a reasonable price. My doctor recommended Nattokinase after I had a TIA (mini stroke). It's been nine months since, and everything is fine, so I shall continue taking it.
