Saccharomyces improves acne treatment
We explored how Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hansen CBS 5926, also known as Perenterol, affects acne in a randomized, double-blind study with 139 participants.

The study revealed impressive results: approximately 74.3% of those treated reported good or very good outcomes, compared to just 21.7% in the placebo group.

More than 80% of patients who received the yeast preparation saw substantial improvement or healing, while only 26% in the placebo group experienced similar results.

Notably, there were no significant side effects reported in either group, making this treatment an increasingly popular option for those battling acne.

Selenium reduces acne in PCOS
We examined how selenium supplementation impacts acne among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) through a rigorous 8-week trial. In a randomized double-blind and placebo-controlled setup, we compared 32 women taking 200 μg of selenium daily against 32 taking a placebo.

Notably, those receiving selenium showed a significant drop in acne rates, from 12.5% in the placebo group to 46.9% in the selenium group. This indicates that selenium might indeed help reduce acne, alongside other reproductive and health improvements. However, some hormonal factors didn't show notable changes.

Selenium temporarily aids acne improvement
We examined the impact of selenium and vitamin E on acne by analyzing erythrocyte glutathione-peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in 42 men and 47 women with varying degrees of acne.

While treatment with selenium showed promising improvements, particularly in pustular acne patients with low GSH-Px activity, the benefits were temporary. After 6-12 weeks of taking selenium and vitamin E, levels of GSH-Px returned to baseline about 6-8 weeks following treatment cessation.

Overall, while some individuals did experience positive results, significant long-term benefits were not established.

Essential to combat COVID-19! After being vaccinated, I experienced a slight headache due to shedding, so I began taking NAC. Within a week, my headache improved considerably, and my long-term acne cleared up. I was thrilled with this outcome. I should mention, however, that the temperature in my house was high, which caused a slight alteration in taste. I hope refrigerating it will help restore its original flavour.

I have about five tablets left, so I’m writing this review. I was taken aback by the horrible smell when I first opened it, but after chilling it in the fridge, the smell improved. Although I still experience a tingling sensation when drinking it, the effects have been incredible. I used to struggle with acne, but now I hardly have any. I’ve never felt prettier, even without foundation. Notably, my PMS symptoms have lessened, helping with irritability and fatigue. I usually take one pill daily but increase to two as my period approaches. While my menstrual pain remains, the difference in my mood is remarkable. I wish I had started taking this sooner!

We examined how selenium levels relate to acne and other skin diseases through a comprehensive review of 27 studies involving over 8,400 participants.

Our findings revealed that patients with acne and other conditions like psoriasis showed notably lower levels of selenium compared to healthy individuals.

However, while high selenium levels appeared protective for some skin diseases, there was no significant difference noted in selenium levels for acne patients versus controls.

Ultimately, this suggests that selenium’s role in acne may not be as impactful as previously thought.

NAC ineffective for PCOS-related acne
We analyzed eight randomized controlled trials involving 910 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to assess how N-acetylcysteine (NAC) affects various health outcomes. NAC showed promise for improving pregnancy rates and ovulation compared to placebo, suggesting potential fertility benefits for women with PCOS.

However, when it came to acne—one of PCOS's most visible symptoms—NAC made no significant difference compared to placebo. The same held true for hirsutism, menstrual regulation, and hormonal markers like testosterone and insulin levels. While NAC outperformed placebo in some areas, it fell short of metformin's effectiveness for pregnancy and ovulation. The research quality varied, with some studies showing methodological concerns, underscoring the need for larger, well-designed future trials.

Improved acne appearance
I took 1 capsule morning and night for red acne scars, and after about two months, my face’s skin became overall lighter, and the redness of my acne slightly improved. However, I noticed an increase in fine grey hairs.

Good for acne prone skin. This helps keep me from breaking out. I have always had acne prone skin, but in my 40s, my skin worsened as I entered menopause. This really helps keep my skin in check.

Acne cleared quickly
Acne healed. I drank 1 in the morning and 1 at night, and my junior high school daughter's acne has healed. I've been taking other supplements like multivitamins, but I’m delighted that it disappeared once I started taking NAC.

Skin appears calmer
Anti-inflammatory effect prevents keratin plugs from forming. I have acne-prone skin. I saw that NAC is good for preventing cell oxidation to avoid keratin plugs that cause acne, so I bought it. I’ve also bought other supplements, so I’m unsure of the effect, but my skin is calm now, except before my period.
