Ester-C Vitamin C 1000 mg Coated Tablets, 120 Count, Immune System Booster, Stomach-Friendly Supplement, Gluten-Free

Not a believer in miracle cures, but this stuff seems to work.

I am 72 years old and have had sharp pains in my knees for quite a few years when going down stairs, and lately have been developing some of the pains of developing arthritis. My friend suggested taking 2000 MG of this supplement for 10 days and then 1500 MG after that. So, I decided to take her advice and try it. I swear, after the 10 days, there was no more pain in my knees. One night I took a full 2-gallon watering can and a 1 gallon bottle of water downstairs at the same time and held on to the railings anticipating pains in my knees - there was no pain!! Since then, there has been no pain in my knees and they feel stronger. I later found out with some research that Ester-C helps to build joint tissue and can help to reduce the pain of arthritis. This seems to hold true since the stiffness in my finger has lessened since I have started using this supplement. I take a few supplements, but I have honestly not come across any other supplement that showed any results so quickly. I am a believer in this one, and it is good for much more than the immune system. The only downside I can think of is the size of the pill. It's huge, and it sometimes takes me a couple of tries to swallow it. I am also giving this supplement to my 98-year-old mother, but for her, we crush it and add it to her supplement cocktail. UPDATE 11/24/18: I have been taking Ester-C for 2 months, and the pain in my knees is completely gone as well as the shakiness I used to have in my knees when I went down stairs. I have also noticed that my finger joints are no longer locked when I get up in the morning, and the sharp pains I had in one of my fingers has not been happening. I can't say that this supplement helps with arthritis, but I have definitely had some improvement with joint pain and locking of finger joints. UPDATE 10/18/19: I have been taking Ester-C for a little over a year, and the benefits described above are still evident. Although i still use this supplement for my 99 year old mother who gets it pulverized in a vitamin supplement, I had a hard time swallowing the huge pills. So, I found another brand that still provides 1000 mg but in a capsule. The capsule works as well for me, but I don't gag trying to swallow it. I hope this review was helpful for you. Well sure, they are inexpensive… But…

First off, I have been taking these for years and they have done their job. But that is because I am the original cheap SOB. I don't believe in spending more money than I have to. So I don't… And sometimes suffer the consequences. My doctor told me to take 3000 mg of vitamin C a day and one in the morning and one in the night of these along with high potency ascorbic acid (also on Amazon FYI) added to my morning vitamin drink fit the bill. I consider myself “immuno man” because I have not gotten sick for the large part in the two years I have been doing this regimen. Also, as an added bonus, it strengthens the pH of my bladder and I don't get bladder infections often anymore (I am a quadriplegic and very prone to getting bladder infections FYI). The problem I find with these pills is that they are so damn big and get stuck in my throat. There have been a couple times where I've been sitting there in Starbucks practically choking to death and thought that I would need to call for paramedics. So I got a pill splitter that splits the pills in half. Unfortunately, these pills are not that easy to split because most of the time they crumble into dust or little pieces. Sure I get a big chunk, but I'm not sure if I'm getting my full thousand milligrams. The fact that I am currently fighting a cold tells me that something has changed. I'm guessing that that is the reason. So I found capsules that are purported to be easier to swallow and I will be getting those from now on. If you are cheap and you have a throat that can handle big pills, this is the one to get. Otherwise be forewarned

I'm Joining the Choir

I initially discounted the reviews here indicating that these 1,000 mg tablets were hard to swallow. Some people have difficulty swallowing pills, for what I think are psychological reasons. I don't have any such issues; to me swallowing pills is no different from swallowing food. I can even swallow pills without needing any water or other liquid to wash them down. But I was wrong. These tablets are indeed hard to swallow. In my opinion, it isn't so much the size of the tablets that is the problem as it is their texture. They are a bit rough, not smooth, and don't go down easily. The tablets are easy to break in half, so I decided that instead of just taking one a day, I would break each one in half and take one half twice a day. Even when broken in half, they can be hard to swallow. And again, it is because of their rough texture. I bought these because of the reputation of Ester-C, and because they don't contain talc. But now I'm sorry I did, because of their coarseness. They are just too hard to swallow comfortably. They need to be coated in some better way to make them go down easier. I know the description says they are coated, but it is not sufficient, in my opinion

“Coated”, really?!! These do not go down easy for me.

If these are coated, then it must be a very light coating because I have a really hard time swallowing these, and sometimes they get stuck in my throat. I take a multivitamin from Natures Way called "Alive!" (that works amazingly well, & I think are responsible for reducing my sugar and nutrient cravings for junk food... just saying :))... anyway, this other multivitamin is similarly sized but I can swallow them two at a time with no problem, apparently because the coating is so much better. But with these Ester-c's, I can barely take them one at a time, and sometimes I will spend a minute or two just jockeying the tablet and water around in my mouth until I think I might have the best chance of it actually going down! I do not write that many reviews, but I just had to say something about these. I'm switching to another brand that is around twice the cost but still 1000 milligrams each and they are capsules ("Ester-C 1000mg with Citrus Bioflavonoids 120 Capsules"), so they should definitely go down a lot easier, and hopefully will be more absorbable since they are caps not tablets, not that I really doubt the efficacy of these, but you never know

Does it's job.

I've been taking these daily to keep up my immune system especially with all that's going on. I have not gotten sick at all. If I slack off I'll feel myself getting sick but I'll start to take it again along with a few other supplements like my daily vitamin and elderberry and then I'm back to good by the next day. They are huge so I chew it a little, swallow with OJ or a smoothie, then follow with water

Too Big to Swallow!

These things are Huge! They're good, I guess, but you'd better be okay with swallowing large objects. lol Of course you can split them, but then you're swallowing two rough objects that can scratch your throat. Really, I probably won't order these again, because of the large size, that is, unless they make them smaller. FOLLOW-UP - (01/21) I finally choked on one of these today, a very scary, and painful experience. I've been taking these things, Very Carefully, for over a month now, but something happened today and one of these huge monster pills got sideways in my throat. Be forewarned, and be careful. I'm throwing the rest of mine in the garbage

Likely The BEST C. Period.

I love this C. Whenever I'm directly in the path of a sneezing/coughing, clearly sick someone, I try to lower my odds for sharing that infection. What I take is Astragalus (ancient Chinese herb used as natural/organic antibiotic), and Ester-C. This is the preferred C. My "cocktail" to ward off the infection is 4 or five caps of the Ester-C, AND 4-5 caps of the Astragalus, morning, and about a half-hour before bed most importantly. I cannot recall last time I was sick so we're talking "years and years". And...this C is --easier on the stomach lining-- than most "raw" C of lesser manufacturing quality/methods. Is this combo responsible for my well being? Honestly, no clue. It all makes perfect sense to me, and I truly believe the two products work, and that may be all I need. Smile. I've read Linus Pauling's assertions from decades ago about C and the common cold, were on the right track, just not enough to make a true difference. So doing 4-5 of these 1000mg tabs may seem overdone, but that's the key to it's efficacy in immune boost and knocking out an infection. Google C and infections/prevention. The Astragalus, I take, the partner in preventing/abbreviating sickness (IMO), is Paradise Herbs Astragalus Truly Holistic 12:1, Veggie Caps 60 ea. Curiously, the 90 cap bottle is cheaper per pill. Go figure. (Over time I've watched this price-per-pill fluctuate wildly; do the math before you buy and just get your best bang for the buck ... but don't assume that a greater quantity of pills will be a better overall value I give this to my Newfies to help build soft tissue, especially around joints, especially after a recent cruciate repair. Recently I had shoulder surgery myself, and started taking 4gm daily. So far my recovery is about 5 wks ahead of schedule, the soft tissue mending way faster than expected, especially considering that I'm not a spring chicken anymore. Highly Recommended. One addendum: If you have a sensitivity to some of the additives in this (and, face it, in light of recent investigations into whether the supplement industry is being candid and truthful about what they do put in these sorts of pills), you might think about crystalline calcium ascorbate, the functional entity in Ester-C. Sold as Mild C (here on Amazon), just calcium ascorbate. Also handy for those that have difficulty swallowing pills. And a lot cheaper

Quality Vitamin C

I usually take 1-2 of these every day, and up to 6 per day when I start to feel cold symptoms coming on. These really kick out a cold or flu virus quickly and they are easy on my stomach. I have been taking these for many years and never had any issues or side effects. The larger 1000 mg tablets are a little hard to swallow, so its best to take one with a piece of bread instead of trying to drink it down with a chug of water. The outer coating comes off quickly when in water, so once that happens it becomes chalky and difficult to swallow so down it quickly and don't get it lodged in your throat! They also come in smaller 500 mg pills that are easier to swallow. Overall a great Vitamin C

Taking one a day for over 5 years and at 76 years old I have not been sick more than 3 days.

My sister told me about Ester-C about 6 years ago and a friend of hers had told her about it because she was having cold and sinus issues on a regular basis. She started taking Ester-C and within a few weeks she stopped having sinus problems and the cold symtoms also went away within a couple of months and she only takes it now when she thinks she is feeling like a cold may be coming on. I have been taking one a day for over 5 years and I have only been sick one time for 3 days and I think it could have been either the flu or food poisoning all I know is I felt terrible for a few days and that was it. I am 76 and take nothing but over the counter meds. No prescription medicine of any kind. Ester-C is a great product and I can highly recommend it along with Moringa Oleifera (4) capsules I take every morning
