We evaluated the effectiveness of Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 as an addition to oral rehydration therapy for children suffering from acute gastroenteritis. This randomized, controlled trial took place in a pediatric emergency setting and included children aged 1 month to 5 years.

LRa05 probiotic helps reduce diarrhea
We investigated how the probiotic LRa05 affects acute watery diarrhea in young children. In a randomized controlled trial with 57 children receiving LRa05 and 54 on a placebo, we observed that those in the LRa05 group experienced a significantly shorter duration of diarrhea and improved fecal consistency.

These children also showed better gut microbiome changes. Specifically, more of them reported improvement compared to the placebo group. Overall, LRa05 proved to be a promising treatment option for easing diarrhea in children.

We explored the effects of equine-derived Lactobacillus reuteri on diarrhea caused by E. coli. Our study highlighted that this probiotic could ease symptoms by improving gut microbiota balance and reinforcing the intestinal barrier.

L. reuteri yogurt benefits gut health
To explore how Limosilactobacillus reuteri may help with diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), we looked at different types of yogurt made with this bacteria. Our findings show that L. reuteri yogurt can strengthen the intestinal barrier, reduce inflammation, and lower ETEC levels in infected mice.

Probiotics reduce antibiotic-related diarrhea
We conducted a multi-hospital study to tackle the common issue of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD). By comparing probiotics, specifically Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium longum BB536, with a placebo among 340 adult patients, we aimed to find out if these friendly bacteria could help.

Our findings revealed that probiotics significantly lowered both the incidence and duration of AAD compared to the placebo group. Patients reported positive outcomes, indicating high adherence to the treatment as well.

Probiotics may reduce pediatric diarrhea
We explored how probiotics, particularly Lactobacillus rhamnosus, might help prevent and treat antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) in children. Our analysis included 20 systematic reviews and utilized various assessment tools to evaluate their quality.

While high doses of probiotics showed significant effects, we noticed concerns about the quality of reporting and evidence in many reviews. This means that, while the potential is there, cautious interpretation of results is necessary as further improvements in study methodology are needed.

Lactobacillus reuteri aids diarrhea relief
We explored how adding Lactobacillus reuteri to treatment plans helps children suffering from diarrhea. After analyzing data from nine randomized controlled trials involving 963 participants, we found significant reductions in the number of diarrhea cases within the first few days of treatment.

While the probiotic improved symptoms and reduced the duration of diarrhea, it did not show effectiveness in preventing diarrheal diseases, such as those caused by rotavirus or following antibiotic use. The focus remains on enhancing probiotics for better outcomes.
