We investigated the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri on bone health in menopausal mice. Our findings revealed that this probiotic significantly curtails bone loss linked to estrogen deficiency.
Specifically, L. reuteri treatment led to lower levels of bone resorption markers and reduced the factors that promote osteoclast formation, which are responsible for bone deterioration.
These results suggest that L. reuteri not only helps maintain bone density but also positively influences gut health during menopause, showcasing its potential as an accessible method for women to combat post-menopausal bone loss.

I'm cured, and I will take this product forever. This stuff is fantastic! At 66, I started suffering from severe vaginal burning. It felt unbearable. Avoiding doctors, I did some research thinking it might be a yeast infection. Fem-Dophilus was recommended, but it took too long to arrive, so I bought it at Whole Foods. After 10 days of treatment (including vaginal insertion 2x daily for 3 days), I was cured. I will continue using this daily for life to avoid that misery. It’s a safe product with no scary chemicals, but it must be kept cold.

L. reuteri protects bone health
Heat-killed Limosilactobacillus reuteri ATCC PTA 6475 prevents bone loss in ovariectomized mice: A preliminary study.
We explored how Limosilactobacillus reuteri affects bone loss related to menopause by studying its impact in ovariectomized mice. Our research involved a control group and two treatment groups to assess both live and heat-killed forms of this probiotic.
We observed that both forms of L. reuteri significantly improved bone density compared to the untreated ovariectomized group. However, we found no differences in specific gene expressions related to inflammation, indicating that the probiotic's protective effects on bone were independent of these particular pathways.
Overall, L. reuteri showed promise as a potential treatment for managing bone health during menopause.

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's reproductive years, characterized by the cessation of menstruation and a decline in hormonal levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone. Typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55, menopause can bring a variety of physical and emotional changes. Common symptoms may include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and changes in sleep patterns. It is important to note that menopause is a gradual process and often begins with perimenopause, where women may experience irregular periods and increased symptoms for several years before periods stop completely.
While menopause is a natural phase of life, it can have significant impacts on a woman's health and well-being. This transition can increase the risk of certain health issues, such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease, due in part to lowered hormone levels. Therefore, it is advisable for women to consult with healthcare providers to discuss potential management strategies and lifestyle adjustments during this time. These may include hormone replacement therapy, dietary changes, regular physical activity, and alternative therapies, all aimed at alleviating symptoms and promoting overall health during and after menopause.
Lactobacillus is a genus of bacteria that plays a crucial role in the fermentation of various foods and is found naturally in the human gut. Known for their probiotic properties, strains of Lactobacillus are commonly utilized in the production of yogurt, sauerkraut, and other fermented products. They are characterized by their rod-shaped structure and ability to convert sugars into lactic acid, which not only helps preserve food but also contributes to the tangy flavor of fermented foods.
In addition to their culinary uses, Lactobacillus bacteria can offer several health benefits. They are known to support gut health by enhancing the balance of beneficial bacteria in the microbiome, potentially aiding in digestion and alleviating symptoms of issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Regular consumption of Lactobacillus-containing foods or supplements may also bolster the immune system and improve overall digestive health. With a growing interest in gut health, Lactobacillus remains a key player in both dietary and therapeutic contexts.
While research on the specific benefits of Lactobacillus for menopause is still ongoing, there is some evidence suggesting that probiotics may play a role in alleviating certain menopause-related symptoms. Lactobacillus, a common genus of probiotics, has been shown to support gut health and immune function, which can be particularly beneficial during menopause when hormonal fluctuations may impact overall well-being. Some studies suggest that maintaining a healthy gut microbiome with probiotics could help mitigate symptoms like depression, anxiety, and digestive issues that some women experience during this life stage.
Additionally, an emerging area of research focuses on the potential of probiotics to manage vaginal health, particularly dryness and discomfort that can be exacerbated by hormonal changes. Certain strains of Lactobacillus are naturally found in the vaginal microbiota, and they may help restore balance and alleviate symptoms related to vaginal atrophy. However, it's important for women to consult with healthcare providers before starting any new supplement, including probiotics, to ensure it's appropriate for their individual health needs.
