We aimed to uncover how silibinin, a compound from milk thistle, impacts cancer, specifically in adenoid cystic carcinoma cells and Balb/c nude mice. The study identified 75 key targets linked to tumor growth and showcased that silibinin significantly reduced cell viability, proliferation, and migration.
Additionally, it induced cancer cell death and inhibited tumor growth in live subjects. Our findings highlighted how silibinin acts on specific proteins affecting cancer pathways, offering valuable insights into its potential as an anti-tumor treatment.

Silymarin shows cytotoxic effects
Mechanistic Insights into Silymarin-Induced Apoptosis and Growth Inhibition in SPC212 Human Mesothelioma Cells.
We explored the impact of silymarin, a compound from Silybum marianum, on SPC212 human mesothelioma cells. Through a series of laboratory tests, we observed that silymarin exhibits a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect, with notable markers of apoptosis like cell shrinkage and nuclear changes. Although silymarin shows promise in inducing cell death in cancer cells, further research is needed to fully understand its potential as a cancer treatment.

Silybum reduces chemotherapy nerve damage
Effect of Silybum Marianum on Reduction of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neurotoxicity with Cisplatin.
We explored the effects of Silybum marianum on nerve damage caused by the chemotherapy drug cisplatin in cancer patients. In a double-blind study involving 60 participants, we divided them into two groups: one receiving Silybum and the other a placebo.
Our findings revealed that those treated with Silybum experienced a significant reduction in symptoms of peripheral neuropathy compared to those who received the placebo. This suggests that Silybum marianum may offer relief for patients dealing with the harsh side effects of chemotherapy.

Tumours decreased
My father uses this as part of the Dr Rath anti-Cancer protocol, taking about 7-10 pills daily (with 10g of C, 10g of L-lysine, NAC, and many other supplements, which are the most important). While we lack a counterfactual to prove it definitively, his tumours have decreased or even disappeared.

High quality product
Worth the price. I am not a doctor, but my first wife had an excellent nutritionist who collaborated with her Cancer doctor. I recall that Milk Thistle was advised to help support her liver function. I believe this Jarrow Milk Thistle product is of high quality and standardised. It seems to be an excellent product priced well from a manufacturer that receives high ratings from independent sources like consumer-labs.

Lung cancer treatment study findings
Combinations of grape seed procyanidin extract and milk thistle silymarin extract against lung cancer - The role of MiR-663a and FHIT.
We investigated how grape seed procyanidin extract (GSE) and milk thistle silymarin extract (MTE) work together to combat lung cancer. Our study involved cell line experiments, along with testing on mice to see how these extracts affect tumor growth.
The results showed that GSE and MTE not only slowed down cancer cell growth but also worked better together. They boosted the levels of specific tumor suppressors, which play a key role in their effectiveness. Overall, this combination appears promising for lung cancer treatment.

Silymarin enhances cisplatin efficacy
Co-treatment of silymarin and cisplatin inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer.
We aimed to understand how the combination of silymarin, derived from the milk thistle plant, and cisplatin, a well-known chemotherapy drug, affects ovarian cancer cells. Our study involved treating A2780 cells with these substances, both separately and together.
The results were promising: the combination treatment significantly reduced cell proliferation and promoted cancer cell death more effectively than either treatment alone. Additionally, it was found that this co-treatment altered the expression of certain cancer-related genes.
Overall, we believe this combination therapy could represent a valuable approach for future ovarian cancer treatments.

Milk thistle affects liver cancer cells
Milk thistle nano-micelle formulation promotes cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells through modulating miR-155-3p /SOCS2 /PHLDA1 signaling axis.
We examined how milk thistle, particularly its nano-micelle formulation, affects liver cancer cells. By testing these formulations on different cell lines, we discovered that the nano-milk thistle (N-MT) can effectively halt cell growth and induce cancer cell death.
This happens by altering key genes involved in the cell cycle and apoptosis pathways. Importantly, the treatment influenced the expression levels of specific genes like miR-155-3p, SOCS2, and PHLDA1, suggesting a targeted action of N-MT in combatting cancer in liver cells.
Great supplement. This extract ratio is very good. Apart from its known benefits, I recommend this to everyone battling Cancer! It reduces the side effects of chemotherapy and enhances quality of life.
