We examined how quercetin, a natural compound, can help alleviate chronic cough by targeting P2X3 receptors, which are involved in cough reflexes. The study involved testing its effects on male mice and guinea pigs.

Results showed that quercetin effectively modulated these receptors without causing adverse taste effects, unlike other drugs like gefapixant. This potential opens up new avenues for treating chronic cough without unpleasant side effects.

We explored the effects of quercetin, a natural compound with potential benefits for treating osteoarthritis (OA), specifically focusing on its ability to target damaged chondrocytes, the cartilage cells that play a crucial role in joint health. In our study, we utilized specialized nanoparticles to increase the effectiveness of quercetin, overcoming its usual limitations related to absorption and bioavailability.

Our research involved subjecting human chondrocytes to conditions that mimic OA. Afterward, we treated them with either free quercetin or our quercetin-loaded nanoparticles (Q-NP). We found that the Q-NP not only allowed for better cellular absorption but also selectively induced apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in senescent chondrocytes. This is significant because eliminating these unhealthy cells could pave the way for healthier joint repair and function.

In addition to promoting cell death in the right cells, Q-NP led to an increase in oxidative stress and reduced key markers of cellular aging. We also noted that the treatment halted the cell cycle in cells that needed to be eliminated. Overall, our findings suggest that enhancing quercetin delivery through nanoparticles holds great promise for improving osteoarthritis outcomes by actively removing harmful senescent cells from joint tissues.

We explored the effects of quercitrin on platelet activation to better understand its role in blood clotting. Through comprehensive experiments—like assessing platelet aggregation and thrombus formation—we observed that quercitrin significantly hinders platelet activation. This means it impairs platelet aggregation and granule secretion, which are crucial in forming blood clots.

Moreover, quercitrin showed promise in preventing arterial thrombus formation without extending bleeding time, hinting at its potential as a treatment for thrombotic diseases. Overall, our findings suggest that quercitrin could be beneficial in managing blood clot-related conditions.

We explored how quercetin, a natural compound found in fruits and vegetables, can impact asthma symptoms. Using an ovalbumin-induced mouse model of asthma, we aimed to uncover whether quercetin can help inhibit a process known as ferroptosis, potentially offering a new therapeutic approach for asthma sufferers.

Our findings showed that quercetin effectively reduced inflammation in the asthmatic mice. Specifically, it lowered levels of inflammatory factors such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13—substances typically elevated during an asthma attack. Notably, we also observed that quercetin increased the levels of superoxide dismutase, an important antioxidant, while decreasing malondialdehyde and ferric ions that are associated with oxidative stress.

Additionally, quercetin appeared to boost the expression of key proteins involved in defending against oxidative stress, specifically SIRT1, Nrf2, and HO-1. This suggests that quercetin not only helps combat inflammation but may also protect against cellular damage within the lungs. Overall, our study indicates that quercetin holds promise as a beneficial treatment for asthma by addressing both inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways.

We aimed to understand how quercetin and its derivatives, especially mono-methylated quercetins (MQs), might help in treating colorectal cancer. Using advanced techniques like tandem mass spectrometry, we identified specific structural features of these flavonoids that could enhance their anti-cancer activities.

Our findings showed that methylation at specific positions on the quercetin molecule significantly improved its ability to fight cancer cells. Notably, 3-O-methylquercetin and 4'-O-methylquercetin were particularly effective. These compounds caused cancer cells to stop dividing and triggered programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis.

We observed that these MQs worked through several mechanisms, such as inducing oxidative stress, disrupting mitochondrial function, and inactivating cancer-related signaling pathways—all while being non-toxic to normal human colon cells. This makes them promising candidates for cancer therapy, especially for patients with colorectal cancer.

Ultimately, our research revealed that small modifications in flavonoid structures could lead to significant improvements in their anti-cancer effectiveness, providing a path for developing targeted treatments for colorectal cancer.

We investigated the potential of quercetin, a natural compound known for its antioxidant properties, in treating cutaneous eczema. Specifically, we prepared a special formulation of quercetin contained within liposomes and mixed it into a gel. This method aimed to enhance the compound's effectiveness in promoting skin healing.

Our findings revealed that this quercetin-infused gel not only demonstrated significant antioxidant activity but also improved skin conditions in mice suffering from eczema. The application of this formulation led to noteworthy reductions in various symptoms associated with the skin condition, such as inflammation and epidermal peeling.

In comparison to a commonly used eczema treatment, we found that the quercetin formulation outperformed the commercially available steroid cream in reducing malondialdehyde levels, a marker of oxidative stress in the body. These results suggest that quercetin-containing liposomes hold promise as a novel approach for preventing and treating cutaneous eczema.

Our exploration focused on the effectiveness of a treatment called ascovertin in patients suffering from stages I and II of vascular encephalopathy, often linked to atherosclerosis. This treatment, comprised of flavonoid dihydroquercetin and ascorbic acid, was administered over a period of 21 days to a group of 21 patients.

In contrast, we had a comparison group of 10 patients who did not receive ascovertin. The results were promising, revealing that those who took ascovertin experienced significant relief from headaches, decreased vertigo, and less overall fatigue. Furthermore, cognitive functions showed noticeable improvement.

Alongside these benefits, we noted a reliable reduction in whole blood viscosity, suggesting better blood flow and health of blood cells. Specifically, ascovertin appeared to enhance cellular rheology, which means our study participants demonstrated improved flexibility of red blood cells, reduced clumping, and lower levels of harmful lipid peroxidation in both their red blood cells and blood plasma.

However, it’s important to mention that because quercetin was part of a combination treatment, isolating its specific effect on dizziness is challenging. Thus, while benefits were observed, the distinct role of quercetin is not definitively determined in this context.
