Melatonin benefits in autism models
We investigated the role of melatonin in enhancing synaptic development in mouse models of autism. Through long-term oral administration over 28 days, melatonin improved social interactions and dendritic spine density in genetically modified mice.

Importantly, we found that melatonin's benefits are linked to the activation of a specific signaling pathway in the brain. However, when this pathway was blocked, the positive effects of melatonin on synaptic function were diminished. Overall, our findings highlight melatonin's promise for addressing certain autism-related challenges.

Melatonin shows positive effects on sleep
We explored the impact of melatonin on sleep disturbances in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through a retrospective study, using parent surveys for insights.

Interestingly, about 8% of children in the study received melatonin, especially those with more severe symptoms. The results showed high adherence, with around 86% experiencing better sleep onset.

Additionally, over a quarter reported improved daytime behaviors. Despite some mild side effects, parents generally viewed melatonin as a safe and effective option for their children's sleep issues.

Melatonin promotes dopaminergic neuron growth
We explored melatonin's potential to impact neurodevelopment in autism by using stem cells from children with autism. In our study, we differentiated these cells into dopaminergic neurons and tested the effects of melatonin on their growth and function. We discovered that, without melatonin, these neurons showed reduced growth and mitochondrial dysfunction.

However, when melatonin was added, we observed significant improvements in neuron growth and mitochondrial health. Melatonin appears to enhance calcium signaling crucial for development. Nevertheless, further research is needed to confirm these findings and their practical applications for autism treatment.

Family sleep restored
My children had significant sleep issues, common in many with autism. The doctor recommended melatonin, and after trying iHerb’s gummies, our family's sleep drastically improved. In less than an hour, my husband and I were sleeping soundly. It's incredible how quickly they work — putting my kids to bed within twenty minutes. I look forward to ordering more for my husband to see if they help him too. Thanks, iHerb.

Melatonin aids autism-related insomnia
We examined the link between insomnia and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly how melatonin can help manage sleep issues in affected children. The analysis, conducted by a team of experts, emphasized the importance of understanding sleep challenges to improve treatment outcomes for both kids and their caregivers.

Encouragingly, melatonin has been found to be both effective and safe for managing insomnia associated with ASD, particularly in prolonged-release forms. Although promising, more research is needed to further validate these findings and improve sleep management strategies.

We explored the impact of Nomo1 deficiency on behavior in zebrafish, which mimics aspects of neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism. The study demonstrated that these zebrafish exhibited abnormal brain development and various neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Notably, we found that treating these fish with melatonin not only restored normal locomotor activity but also reduced repetitive behaviors and addressed inflammation in the brain. This suggests that melatonin could be a promising therapeutic option for managing neuropsychiatric conditions linked to NOMO1 deficiency.

We conducted a detailed look into sleep-related rhythmic movement disorder (SR-RMD) in children, involving data from 66 patients at a UK hospital.

Our assessment included questionnaires to explore autism traits and behavioral impacts. Notably, families reported the burden of sleeplessness and concerns for their children's safety.

Intriguingly, many parents noted improvements in their children’s sleep after administering extended-release melatonin, suggesting this could be a viable treatment option in the future.

Deep sleep achieved
This product is wonderful for ensuring quality sleep! As a mother of a child with autism and epilepsy, I was initially hesitant to give him such drugs, but poor sleep disrupted our routine. I take it and give it to him about an hour before bedtime. Now we both enjoy deep sleep and wake up refreshed, with no drowsiness during the day.

We examined the sleep struggles faced by children with autism through an engaging survey completed by parents. The findings revealed that insomnia is particularly common, impacting both the children and their families significantly.

A notable number of parents suggested that melatonin might be beneficial for addressing their children's sleep disturbances, reporting effectiveness around 60-70%. However, further research is necessary to explore the various causes of restless sleep and to understand the best interventions for these families.

Melatonin improves liver function in autism
We explored a study that examined how melatonin might help alleviate liver issues in a mouse model of autism known as BTBR. The researchers looked at various liver-related problems, including oxidative stress and inflammation, comparing the BTBR mice to healthy controls.

They found that BTBR mice had significant liver development issues and an increase in harmful markers. After administering melatonin, there were notable improvements in liver structure and function in the autistic mice. This suggests that melatonin could have beneficial effects on managing some health complications associated with autism.

Melatonin and exercise comparably effective
We explored the effects of melatonin supplements, physical exercise, and their combination on sleep quality in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Sixty-two children participated, assigned to groups receiving cycling, melatonin, both, or a placebo.

Results showed improvements in sleep efficiency and duration for all intervention groups, while the placebo did not yield significant changes. However, when comparing the groups, we found no notable differences between the effectiveness of melatonin and exercise, indicating both interventions could help alike.
