We investigated whether high-dose vitamin D supplements could lessen flu symptoms in preschool kids during winter. In a study with 703 healthy children aged 1 to 5 in Toronto, we randomly assigned them to either high-dose (2000 IU/day) or standard-dose (400 IU/day) vitamin D.

Unfortunately, our findings revealed that high doses did not lead to any improvement in flu symptom severity, nor did it reduce doctor visits, emergency room trips, or antibiotic prescriptions. Overall, it appears that sticking to the standard recommended dose is advisable for managing flu symptoms in children.
