D-mannose aids menopausal UTI management
We evaluated the effectiveness of a nutraceutical compound featuring D-mannose, along with cranberry, bearberry, and inulin, in treating recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) among menopausal women. In our cohort study, women took this treatment for ten days each month.

At six months, there was a notable decrease in women experiencing recurrent UTIs compared to their baseline. Additionally, at the twelve-month mark, more participants in the treatment group reported being infection-free and showed significant improvement in UTI-related symptoms.

Long-term antibiotics reduce UTI recurrence
We examined the effectiveness of long-term antibiotic therapy in preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in postmenopausal women. Our analysis of three small trials indicated that long-term antibiotics could reduce UTI recurrence by about 24%.

However, we found no significant evidence on the therapy's benefits or risks for older men or frail care home residents. Importantly, concerns arose regarding antibiotic resistance linked to such treatments, highlighting the need for caution and further research.
