We explored the potential of glutathione treatment as a way to improve behavioral symptoms in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In this study, we conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial involving 24 children aged 5 to 16 years who exhibited severe behavioral issues associated with ASD.

During the trial, participants received either glutathione, a combination treatment with glutathione and vitamin C plus N-acetylcysteine, or a placebo over an 8-week period. After a week off from treatment, we switched the groups to ensure an unbiased assessment of each method's effectiveness. Throughout the study, we closely monitored behavioral changes and measured plasma levels of glutathione.

Despite our thorough approach, we found that neither glutathione nor the combination treatment showed significant improvements in behavior or biological markers. Any observed positive trends seemed to stem from the placebo effect or simply the structure of being part of a study, rather than any real benefit from the treatments themselves.
