Carnosine shows no effectiveness
The Effect of Carnosine Supplementation on Musculoskeletal Health in Adults with Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial.
Most Relevant Research
We investigated the effects of l-carnosine supplementation on musculoskeletal health in adults with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (T2D). In a well-structured clinical trial, 49 participants, all without pre-existing musculoskeletal issues, were divided into two groups. One group received 2 grams of l-carnosine daily for 14 weeks, while the other was given a placebo.

After completing the study, we found that carnosine supplementation did not lead to any significant improvements. There were no notable changes in muscle strength or body composition between those taking l-carnosine and those on the placebo. Specifically, metrics such as hand grip strength, lean mass, fat percentage, and bone health markers showed no benefits from the supplement.

Our findings suggest that l-carnosine might not be a helpful strategy for enhancing musculoskeletal health in individuals with prediabetes and T2D. While our study was comprehensive, further research with larger participant numbers and longer durations would ultimately be needed to confirm these results.

Health must-have. One of the most effective supplements available. My mother deals with toxic stress and diabetes, and L-Carnosine is literally the answer to her overall health issues, also helping with age-related fatigue. Thanks, Now and iHerb.

Carnosine's potential against Alzheimer's
Two human metabolites rescue a C. elegans model of Alzheimer's disease via a cytosolic unfolded protein response.
Most Relevant Research
We discovered interesting insights into how l-carnosine, an endogenous metabolite, impacts Alzheimer's disease. By analyzing data from the Human Metabolome Database, we identified l-carnosine, alongside kynurenic acid, as substances that can inhibit the aggregation of amyloid beta peptide (Aβ), which is commonly associated with Alzheimer’s.

Our findings highlighted that l-carnosine works by triggering a cytosolic unfolded protein response. This involves a transcription factor called HSF-1 and different chaperones, specifically HSP40/J-proteins DNJ-12 and DNJ-19. This mechanism indicates that l-carnosine not only plays a role in reducing protein aggregation but may also suggest potential anti-aging benefits.

The link we established between metabolite homeostasis and protein homeostasis presents promising avenues for preventative measures against neurodegenerative disorders. It's exciting to think about how exploring the roles of metabolites like l-carnosine could offer new strategies in combating diseases that impact so many lives.

Zinc l-carnosine promotes ulcer healing
Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, and Genomic Stability Enhancement Effects of Zinc l-carnosine: A Potential Cancer Chemopreventive Agent?
Most Relevant Research
We investigated how zinc l-carnosine (ZnC) might affect ulcers, focusing on its potential as an effective treatment. The research highlighted ZnC's use in clinical settings, especially in Japan, where it is already employed to tackle gastric ulcers.

Through various studies, we learned that ZnC exhibits strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which are key factors in healing ulcers. By working to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, ZnC appears to create a more favorable environment for ulcer healing.

Moreover, the research points toward ZnC's ability to enhance genomic stability, which might further strengthen its role in preventing complications associated with ulcers. Overall, the findings suggest that ZnC could be a promising option for those suffering from gastric ulcers, enhancing the healing process and potentially improving patient outcomes.

I'm pleased I purchased it. Despite nearing my 60th birthday and suffering from muscle fatigue, pain, stiffness, and numbness in my feet, I took a chance on this product after reading a similar review. After taking it with ADAM and Omega 3, my pain and numbness vanished by the next morning. I was genuinely surprised at how well I slept. I would certainly recommend it for anyone who struggles with recovery.

L-carnosine shows limited benefits
Carnosine treatment for gulf war illness: a randomized controlled trial.
Most Relevant Research
We conducted a randomized controlled trial to explore whether L-carnosine could significantly improve symptoms associated with Gulf War illness (GWI), a condition characterized by disabling fatigue, pain, and cognitive dysfunction.

In this 12-week study, 25 individuals suffering from GWI were given L-carnosine in increasing doses of 500 mg, 1000 mg, and finally 1500 mg, administered at four-week intervals. We utilized a double-blind and placebo-controlled design, which is a strong method for assessing treatment efficacy.

Our observations revealed that while L-carnosine seemed to have a positive effect on cognitive function, as indicated by improved scores on the WAIS-R test, it did not show significant improvements in fatigue, pain, or overall activity levels. Interestingly, there was a reduction in diarrhea linked to irritable bowel syndrome, which is a positive note for gastrointestinal health.

Overall, while L-carnosine may offer some cognitive benefits, it appears that other major symptoms of chronic fatigue associated with GWI remain resistant to this treatment.
