l-Carnosine as Adjunctive Therapy in Children and Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.
This study looked into how effective l-carnosine can be when added to standard ADHD medication, methylphenidate. Over eight weeks, we monitored 56 children with ADHD, comparing those given l-carnosine to those receiving a placebo. Some positive results appeared in parent-rated attention measures, indicating that l-carnosine might offer some benefit. However, improvements were not seen in teacher assessments, suggesting limited effects overall. While the findings show promise, more research is needed to confirm these results and explore different dosages.

Improved morning wakefulness

It became easier to wake up in the morning after I began taking Ajinomoto's "Every morning histidine," which contains 1650mg of the ingredient. For two years, I've struggled to get up due to my possible ADHD, often oversleeping for more than 15 hours on holidays. Although it's not a complete solution, I’ve noticed significant improvement since starting this.

Excellent product! It's a staple in our household. Both my son and I use carnosine for its anti-ageing properties and health benefits. We initially bought it for my son’s tics, and it has certainly helped to calm him. Additionally, L-carnosine is reputed to assist with frontal lobe function, relating to ADHD, and the quality seems consistently good.

Frequently Asked Questions
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. The symptoms typically present in early childhood and can continue into adolescence and adulthood. Individuals with ADHD may find it challenging to focus, organize tasks, follow through on instructions, and regulate their emotions. Hyperactivity can manifest as excessive fidgeting or an inability to remain seated in structured environments, while impulsivity may lead to hasty actions without considering the consequences.
Diagnosis of ADHD involves comprehensive assessments, often including behavioral evaluations and standardized rating scales, to determine how symptoms impact the individual’s daily life. Treatment can vary widely and may include behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, and medications such as stimulants or non-stimulants, aimed at improving attention span and impulse control. Understanding ADHD is crucial, not only for effective management but also for reducing stigma and promoting awareness. As our understanding of neurodiversity expands, more resources and support systems are becoming available to help those with ADHD thrive in both academic and social settings.
L-Carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide composed of two amino acids, beta-alanine and L-histidine. It is primarily found in high concentrations in muscle and brain tissues, where it plays a role in various biological functions. L-Carnosine is known for its potential antioxidant properties, helping to protect cells from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. Additionally, it is believed to have a buffering effect on pH levels in muscles, which may enhance athletic performance and delay fatigue during intense exercise.
Research surrounding L-Carnosine has suggested it may contribute to healthy aging by promoting cellular function and reducing age-related decline. Some studies indicate that it could support cognitive function and may even have potential benefits for conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. However, it's important to note that while L-Carnosine can be obtained through dietary sources, supplementation and its effects should be approached with caution, as more research is necessary to fully understand its benefits and any potential interactions with other medications. If you're considering adding L-Carnosine to your health regimen, consulting with a healthcare professional is advisable.
