Heel pain relief
Most Useful Review
Plantar fasciitis pain in my heel has vanished. I purchased this bottle about six months ago upon a colleague's recommendation for stiffness and body aches. Recently, I experienced excruciating pain in my left heel, making walking almost impossible. I believed it was plantar fasciitis or a heel spur, subsequently spending a small fortune on shoe inserts and new shoes to no avail. After starting MSM, the pain in my heel disappeared within days, although my arms remain sore. I wholeheartedly recommend this for aches and pains!

MSM shows promise for hair loss
EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF TOPICALLY APPLIED METHYLSULFONYLMETHANE AND THEIR COMBINATION WITH MINOXIDIL SOLUTION FOR IMPROVEMENT OF HAIR GROWTH IN MALE MICE.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the potential of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) as a treatment to minimize hair loss. In our study, we used twenty male Wister Albino mice, carefully dividing them into four groups to test different treatments: a control group with distilled water, a group treated with Minoxidil, one with MSM, and a group receiving a combination of MSM and Minoxidil.

Over the course of the study, we observed that the mice given MSM experienced notable improvements compared to the control group. Specifically, hair growth increased, and hair follicle numbers were significantly higher in the groups treated with MSM, whether alone or in combination with Minoxidil.

Additionally, we found a reduction in tissue levels of 8-isoprostane—a marker of oxidative stress—in the medicated groups, pointing to MSM’s antioxidant properties. There was also an increase in vascular endothelial growth factor, suggesting enhanced blood supply to the hair follicles.

Our overall conclusion is that MSM shows promise in reducing hair loss through its remarkable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in male mice. This research indicates that MSM could be a valuable ally in the fight against hair loss.

MSM improves mild knee pain
Methylsulfonylmethane Improves Knee Quality of Life in Participants with Mild Knee Pain: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.
Most Relevant Research
In a well-structured randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we explored how methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) affects those experiencing mild knee pain. The study involved 88 healthy Japanese participants, split evenly into two groups where one received 200 mg of MSM while the other received a placebo for 12 weeks.

By measuring the total score on the Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure (JKOM) at the end of the trial, we found that the MSM group showed a significant improvement compared to the placebo group. Specifically, total JKOM scores changed markedly, with an improvement in knee and systemic health reported by participants who took MSM.

Our findings suggest that MSM might be beneficial for individuals with mild knee pain, marking it as a useful supplement for enhancing joint health. The positive outcomes underscore the potential of MSM as a supportive treatment option for managing mild arthritic conditions.

Erenumab reduces migraine medication use
Reduction in acute migraine-specific and non-specific medication use in patients treated with erenumab: post-hoc analyses of episodic and chronic migraine clinical trials.
Most Relevant Research
We explored how erenumab impacts the use of acute headache medication, especially migraine-specific medications (MSM). The study analyzed data from two major clinical trials involving patients with episodic migraine (EM) and chronic migraine (CM). Participants received either erenumab or placebo over a set period, allowing us to compare medication usage accurately.

Our findings indicate that treatment with erenumab led to a significant decrease in the number of days patients used acute headache medications, particularly in those relying on MSM. This reduction was observed in both episodic and chronic migraine patients, suggesting that erenumab not only helps manage migraines but may also help mitigate the need for additional acute treatment.

Overall, these results highlight the potential benefits of erenumab in addressing not just the frequency of migraines but also reducing dependence on medications traditionally used for acute migraine relief.

MSM improves migraine management
Acute migraine medication adherence, migraine disability and patient satisfaction: A naturalistic daily diary study.
Most Relevant Research
We aimed to understand how adherence to migraine-specific medications (MSMs) influences migraine-related disability and patient satisfaction. Over three months, 337 participants used daily electronic diaries to track their migraine experiences, including the medications they took and their satisfaction with these treatments.

It was insightful to see that participants took their acute medications on a staggering 96.5% of the days they recorded migraines. Among the medications used, MSMs were the most common at 58%, followed by over-the-counter analgesics and opiates/barbiturates. We found that people tended to reach for medication when their pain was mild most often.

Our analysis showed that when individuals used MSMs during mild pain, they experienced the least daily disability and reported the highest satisfaction with their medications. This implies that using MSMs earlier, especially at the onset of milder symptoms, can significantly improve a patient's overall experience with migraines.

In conclusion, our study highlights the benefits of starting treatment with MSMs for better outcomes in managing migraine-related challenges and achieving greater satisfaction with acute medication usage.

Asthma medication boosts lung function
An application of model-fitting procedures for marginal structural models.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the effectiveness of asthma rescue medication on lung function through a thorough analysis of data collected during the Fresno Asthmatic Children's Environment Study from 2000 to 2002. Our research utilized a method known as inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) to evaluate treatment effects in an observational study context. This approach helps us account for various confounding factors that might influence the outcomes we observe.

In our findings, traditional regression methods suggested that there was no significant association between medication use and improved lung function. This might seem surprising, as one would intuitively expect that asthma medication helps improve breathing. However, we believed that this outcome was likely influenced by confounders, such as asthma symptoms and severity, which can muddle the clear effects of medication.

When we applied our marginal structural model approach, we discovered a causal link between medication use and a 7% improvement in pulmonary function. This suggests that when we accounted for other influences adequately, asthma rescue medication does indeed have a positive impact, contrary to previous findings.

We hope that our discussion on the importance of proper model selection and fitting procedures encourages more researchers to consider these aspects seriously when evaluating treatment effects. By understanding the subtleties of our methodologies, we can better justify our conclusions in the realm of asthma treatment.

Most Useful Review
They made me feel unwell. I'll give it two stars as they work for many, but I wanted to share my experience. After taking them for two days, I suffered terrible acid reflux and felt awful. I didn't leave bed that second day. I hoped I would still feel ill after stopping them, suggesting it wasn’t the pills, but the next day I was fine. The pills are large; if you struggle to swallow, I recommend avoiding these.

MSM risk behaviors linked to diarrhea
Increased Prevalence of Symptomatic Human Intestinal Spirochetosis in MSM with High-Risk Sexual Behavior in a Cohort of 165 Individuals.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the connections between human intestinal spirochetosis (HIS) and its symptoms, particularly diarrhea, in a group of individuals diagnosed at a tertiary hospital in Madrid. Our focus was on understanding how risky behaviors, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM), impact the prevalence of HIS and associated gastrointestinal issues.

In our review of 165 patients diagnosed with HIS, we found that most were male, with a significant majority identifying as MSM. Notably, a substantial portion of these individuals reported engaging in chemsex and unprotected oral-anal intercourse. Overall, 81.1% of patients were symptomatic, and diarrhea, notably the most common complaint (68.3%), raised concerns about the link between HIS and severe gastrointestinal distress.

Our analysis revealed that younger patients, particularly those under 41, had a higher likelihood of experiencing symptoms. Despite this, a high percentage (92.7%) had normal colonoscopy results. Interestingly, many patients also had previous or concurrent sexually transmitted diseases, which can complicate the diagnosis and treatment.

We observed that for symptomatic patients who did not have other gastrointestinal infections, treatment with metronidazole or doxycycline led to improvements. This highlights the importance of considering HIS as a potential cause of chronic diarrhea in MSM, especially after ruling out other conditions. Hence, we recommend this treatment approach for those exhibiting symptoms linked to HIS.
