We explored the potential of a spirulina-derived compound, chlorin e6 trimethylester, to treat cancer cells and acne. After synthesizing the compound, we tested its effectiveness against Hela cancer cells and the acne bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. Our results showed that higher concentrations of the compound significantly reduced cell survival and colony formation in both cancer and acne bacteria. This suggests that chlorin e6 could serve as a promising treatment option for both conditions through photodynamic therapy.

We explored the impact of a probiotic combined with spirulina on acne in a 12-week clinical trial. This double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved patients aged 12 to 30 with acne vulgaris.

Those taking the probiotic experienced notable improvements, with 50% reporting reduced symptoms compared to 29.41% in the placebo group. Significant decreases in non-inflammatory acne lesions were observed in the probiotic group, suggesting effective treatment.

Overall, the probiotic combination appeared well-tolerated and beneficial in managing acne vulgaris.

Caused chin acne
The initial spirulina I purchased from IHERB resulted in acne appearing on my chin. I took three pieces in the morning before meals along with other products. No other symptoms occurred, but once the supplement ran out, the acne did too. I’ve switched to Hawaiian spirulina at the same dosage but haven’t seen any effective results. I believe it simply wasn't suitable for me.

I recommend spirulina, which I started taking alongside collagen. After two weeks, I observed that my skin became significantly cleaner and post-acne marks were fading away.

I take this supplement alongside my acne treatment, starting with a small dose. I am unsure of its effects on its own, but it seems to contribute to a comprehensive approach to tackling my acne problem.
