Beta glucan shows promise for herpes
We examined the effects of sulfonated derivatives of a natural polysaccharide, botryosphaeran, on the herpes virus, specifically HSV-1. Two different sulfonation methods yielded derivatives with varying effectiveness. The one treated with mild sulfonation showed significant antiviral activity, successfully inhibiting HSV-1, while the other approach did not demonstrate any effectiveness.
This suggests that the placement of sulfate groups is crucial for attacking herpes. Despite the success with HSV-1, neither derivative worked against dengue virus, revealing a targeted action specific to herpes.

We set out to understand how a sugar called beta-glucan, derived from the Agaricus brasiliensis mushroom, could help combat herpes simplex virus (HSV). Our methods included various viral plaque assays to assess its effectiveness.
While the standard beta-glucan showed no action, its sulfated version demonstrated significant anti-HSV activity. It helped prevent the virus from attaching to cells and penetrating them, even showing potential to work alongside traditional treatments like acyclovir.

I take this for my immune system's health. Recovering from Covid-19 is tough, but this supplement has been beneficial, and my herpes outbreaks have reduced somewhat. Previously, I experienced rashes several times a month. I would recommend this to anyone with immunity issues, but only under medical supervision!
