Mitochondrial cocktail shows promise
We aimed to understand how a combination of melatonin, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), and ubiquinol could provide heart protection during episodes of reduced blood supply, known as ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, especially in older rats with diabetes.

Our study involved male Wistar rats, aged between 22 and 24 months, that were induced with type-2 diabetes through a combination of a high-fat diet and low-dose streptozotocin. We carefully organized the rats into different groups to receive various combinations of treatments, evaluating their heart health after inducing I/R through a temporary blockage of blood supply.

The results showed that the combined treatment notably improved heart function and reduced damage from I/R injury. Not only did this trio enhance mitochondrial function, but it also increased the expression of important genes related to mitochondrial health.

While we didn't isolate the effects of ubiquinol alone, the promising outcomes associated with this mitochondrial cocktail suggest it could be beneficial for heart protection, particularly in older diabetic patients.

Ubiquinol from Now Foods 100 mg is a solid addition! It's the Kaneka brand, known for its quality. The capsules are easy to swallow, taken once a day, bringing substantial benefits. As we age, our body generates less ubiquinol, so after around 35, it's essential, especially for those with heart issues or who take statins. This supplement aids in enzyme activation, being prescribed for diabetes, asthma, thyroid issues, and cancer. Personally, this Now Foods ubiquinol has aided my mother with her hypertension and palpitations. I recommend taking one capsule daily with a meal containing fat.

Enhances heart health
Coenzyme CoQ10, in the form of ubiquinol, is crucial for energy production in the body. Although our bodies can produce it, levels significantly decrease with age, affecting overall health and potentially leading to diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Ubiquinol is the predominant form of CoQ10 and supplementation should be prioritised. Regular use can alleviate heart failure symptoms and reduce oxidative stress, supporting heart muscle function. It can also improve insulin sensitivity and normalise blood sugar levels. Daily intake of CoQ10 may help lower the risk of developing Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
