The required amount varies significantly due to individual differences. Those with dry eye, asthma, gastrointestinal inflammation, ulcers, and a family history of cancer require more. High protein is crucial, as low protein intake often leads to excess. I recommend gradually increasing it. After taking up to 100,000 units for one year, my longstanding red sore gastritis, which hadn't healed for over a decade despite medication, was cleared, and I no longer need any medicines.

Affects mucosal strength and eyesight. I have a weak stomach, so I mainly take it to strengthen my mucous membranes. It's very effective for sore throats, and if I catch a cold from my child, taking the maximum 100,000 IU for up to a week cures it in a day if mild. My child's eyesight has improved slightly as well. The quality is good. The taste is unnoticeable unless the capsule is broken, but when taken out, it tastes like eel. It offers many health benefits.

We explored how vitamin A affects rash severity in ferrets infected with canine distemper virus (CDV). Our study involved both vitamin A-replete and vitamin A-depleted ferrets, assessing the impact of high-dose vitamin A on CDV symptoms.

Interestingly, ferrets that received vitamin A did not develop typical disease symptoms and only showed a mild rash, highlighting the vitamin's protective effect. The findings suggest that supplementing with vitamin A can significantly mitigate rash and other illness manifestations, reinforcing its potential benefits against similar viral infections in humans.

Our exploration into the effects of vitamin A, particularly its active form known as retinoic acid, revealed some interesting insights regarding allergies. Vitamin A plays a key role in our immune system by helping to regulate immune responses, which is crucial for managing allergic reactions.

Research indicates that retinoic acid can promote the development of regulatory T cells, which are essential for maintaining balance in our immune system. These T cells help to suppress excessive immune responses that can lead to allergies. Additionally, they assist in managing inflammatory responses, which is particularly important for conditions like asthma and allergic reactions.

Notably, studies have shown that levels of retinoic acid are often lower in individuals suffering from asthma and allergies. Moreover, introducing retinoic acid as a treatment has been found to alleviate symptoms associated with allergies and reduce airway inflammation. This suggests that boosting retinoic acid levels in the body might be a promising therapeutic approach for those dealing with allergic conditions.

Overall, we conclude that vitamin A—through its derivative retinoic acid—holds significant potential for improving allergy management by enhancing immune regulation.

We examined the connection between vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and anemia, particularly how a lack of vitamin A can impact iron metabolism in our bodies. Through reviewing existing research, we discovered that VAD doesn't just lead to general anemia but may cause a specific type known as vitamin A deficiency anemia (VADA).

Our findings reveal that vitamin A plays an essential role in the production of red blood cells. When we lack vitamin A, our bodies struggle to utilize iron effectively. Instead of being available for red blood cell production, iron accumulates in our liver and spleen, leading to reduced levels of circulating iron.

We also saw that inflammation and systemic infections could further exacerbate this issue by triggering the liver to produce more hepcidin, a protein that regulates iron levels. The excess hepcidin can create a situation where there isn’t enough iron for the production of hemoglobin, ultimately causing anemia.

Interestingly, our review highlighted that VADA happens not because of a lack of iron, but due to how iron is managed within the body. By understanding these mechanisms, we can work towards creating better strategies to tackle anemia on a global scale.

The best vitamin A supplement is vitamin E (tocopherol). This combination allows for quicker absorption. It’s crucial to control doses and take vitamin C, as this pairing improves iron absorption, vital for combating anemia. I typically take these supplements twice a year, during spring and autumn.

We examined how vitamin A and zinc supplementation influences cough and other health issues in young children. In a carefully designed study involving 736 children in Mexico City, we found that vitamin A actually led to a 23% increase in cough with fever.

Surprisingly, while vitamin A raised rates of cough and diarrhea, zinc showed no impact on these conditions. Our findings suggest that vitamin A's effects can vary significantly depending on a child's living situation and household characteristics.

Stopped my cough of 20 years within 5 days of purchase. I had a chronic cough for two decades, visiting numerous doctors and undergoing countless tests, yet nothing helped. After reading an article suggesting 100,000 IU with 2 grams of crystallised Vitamin C three times daily, I decided to try it myself in addition to helping my husband recover from bronchitis. By the second dose, I had not coughed again. While it did return 50% after lowering the dosage, it was nothing like before. We conducted a thorough investigation into how vitamin A supplementation might impact thyroid function, particularly focusing on women who are premenopausal and have varying body weights. Our study was a robust, four-month randomized controlled trial involving 84 healthy women aged 17 to 50. Among them, 56 women were classified as obese, while 28 fell into the nonobese category.

Throughout the study, we administered 25,000 IU of vitamin A or a placebo to the obese participants, while nonobese participants received vitamin A as well. Before and after the supplementation period, we measured key thyroid markers, including thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total thyroxine (T4), total triiodothyronine (T3), and proteins associated with vitamin A transport.

Our findings revealed that vitamin A supplementation significantly reduced TSH concentrations in both the obese and nonobese groups, suggesting it may help mitigate the risk of subclinical hypothyroidism. Interestingly, we also noticed an increase in serum T3 levels among those treated with vitamin A. However, T4 levels decreased across all groups, including those not receiving vitamin A.

Overall, it appears that vitamin A may serve as a beneficial intervention for thyroid function in women, particularly those at risk for hypothyroidism. This research highlights an accessible avenue to better support thyroid health through dietary supplementation.

We analyzed a case involving a 74-year-old man who experienced ongoing blurred vision after cataract surgery. His condition included persistent damage to the corneal epithelium, which raised concerns over the underlying reasons for his visual impairment.

To investigate, we recorded his full-field electroretinograms (ff-ERGs) to assess both scotopic and photopic responses of the retina. We also performed optical coherence tomography (OCT) to visualize changes in his retinal structure. Laboratory tests revealed a critically low level of vitamin A in his blood.

Given these findings, we diagnosed him with vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and initiated treatment with oral vitamin A supplements. Remarkably, after three months, we noted significant improvements: his visual acuity, ff-ERGs, and OCT results returned to normal. This highlighted the potential of vitamin A in managing visual issues related to cataract surgery.

Our findings suggest that vitamin A plays an important role in recovery from eye surgeries, especially for patients like him who experience corneal damage and impaired vision. We believe this case underscores the importance of monitoring vitamin A levels in patients presenting with similar complications.

We explored the effects of alitretinoin, a form of vitamin A, on chronic hand eczema (CHE). This powerful drug is known to target specific receptors in the skin, offering insights into its method of action. Through our detailed study, we examined skin samples from patients who responded well to alitretinoin treatment.

Our analysis revealed a total of 231 genes that were markedly regulated. We found that alitretinoin primarily impacts keratinocytes, the skin's primary cells, by addressing inflammation and enhancing skin barrier function. This treatment improved the expression of certain protective proteins while fostering the production of hyaluronic acid, a substance that helps hydrate and soothe the skin.

Furthermore, we observed that alitretinoin also affects immune cells, particularly dendritic cells, which play a vital role in our immune response. These cells, when treated with alitretinoin, displayed unique alterations in their appearance and function. They had lower levels of specific markers that typically spur an immune response and stimulated the production of IL-10, a cytokine that promotes immune tolerance. Most impressively, these treated cells were less effective at activating T cells, which are crucial for initiating inflammation.

Our findings indicate that alitretinoin not only treats the visible symptoms of eczema but also helps regulate the immune response, providing a dual approach in the management of chronic hand eczema. Ultimately, these insights show that vitamin A treatment holds significant promise for improving outcomes in eczema patients.

We explored the impact of the oral aromatic retinoid, Ro 10-9359, on common warts caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) 2 in a patient with chronic lymphatic leukemia.

The treatment led to rapid improvement, with no detectable viral particles or DNA during the therapy. However, the treatment had to stop due to the patient's development of a liposarcoma, leading to a relapse of the warts.

Notably, the same HPV-2 subtype was present before and after the treatment, suggesting limited long-term effectiveness.

Initially, I believed the dryness in my nose was due to winter humidity. I encountered nasal discharge mixed with blood, despite not having a blocked nose, and was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hay fever. In my attempt to combat inflammation, I used cortisol, which worsened my condition. Eventually, I began taking vitamin A, which led to a noticeable improvement. We conducted a study to investigate how vitamin A supplementation affects the immune response in chickens infected with the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV). In our approach, we used 40 one-day-old specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens, dividing them into two groups. One group received an oral vitamin A treatment daily, while the other group was given a placebo until they were 21 days old.

Afterward, both groups were infected with a pathogenic strain of IBV. Our findings showed that while vitamin A supplementation didn't significantly alter the disease's clinical course or the chickens' overall growth, it had some notable effects on their immune response. Specifically, we observed increased levels of IBV-specific antibodies and a decrease in viral load in certain tissues among the vitamin A group.

Interestingly, vitamin A appeared to also suppress some immune responses, leading to lower expression levels of certain molecules related to inflammation and immune regulation. While vitamin A helped improve specific aspects of the immune response, it did not completely cure the chickens or prevent infection.

Overall, we can conclude that while vitamin A supplementation can offer some benefits in terms of boosting immunity and managing viral replication, it doesn't drastically change the outcome of IBV infections in chickens.

We conducted a case-control study to explore the levels of essential antioxidant nutrients, particularly vitamin A, in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who did not have any other health issues. By categorizing our 146 subjects based on their apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) scores, we examined how these nutrient levels compared between those with mild to severe OSA and healthy individuals.

Our findings revealed that patients with OSA showed increased concentrations of vitamin A as part of their antioxidant response. This suggests that vitamin A and selenium may serve as important defenses against the harmful impacts of OSA. The implication of our research highlights that supplementing with antioxidant nutrients could be a beneficial approach to enhance overall health in individuals suffering from sleep apnea.

However, while there is a positive correlation between vitamin A levels and OSA, it is important to note that the isolated effects of vitamin A were not the primary focus of our study. Therefore, more research is needed to fully unravel its specific role in treating or managing sleep apnea.

Great! Both my eyes and skin benefit from this. I find it very effective as my eyes no longer dry out after prolonged use. My night vision has improved too. I've had diabetes for over 10 years, leading to inevitable fundus damage. However, with regular use of this vitamin A, I've managed to delay and reduce such damage. My skin appears smoother, unlike someone in their 50s. Occasionally, after continuous use, my skin feels itchy due to the high dose of 25,000 units per capsule. At that point, a short break helps. My genetic test pointed to a vitamin A metabolic disorder, hence the higher dosage. If in doubt, I'd suggest the average person stick to 10,000 units.

We explored how vitamin A can influence acne treatment, focusing on the effectiveness of its derivatives. According to the findings, oral isotretinoin, a form of vitamin A, showed remarkable efficacy. Patients experienced a significant reduction in lesions—up to 90%—with complete remission in one-quarter of those involved in the study.

Moreover, more than half of the participants reported substantial improvement after treatment. This strong performance suggests that vitamin A plays a key role in managing acne symptoms effectively.

Overall, the evidence we examined indicates that incorporating vitamin A, particularly through isotretinoin, can lead to significant improvements for individuals struggling with acne.

As a longtime acne sufferer, I've tried everything from Accutane to various skincare products without success. In just a week of using this supplement, I saw tremendous improvement; my skin appears clearer, my pores are smaller, and I'm even comfortable without makeup for the first time. The reduction in acne is phenomenal, with noticeable changes in texture and tone. For better absorption, I take it with a healthy fat like coconut oil, which I highly recommend.

We aimed to understand how all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), a form of vitamin A, influences lung cancer development caused by benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) exposure in mice. The study involved a thorough examination of the overall health of the mice, including body and organ weights, blood tests, and tissue analysis for any signs of damage or inflammation.

In our observations, B(a)P significantly harmed the mice, leading to weight loss and increased organ weight, particularly in the liver and lungs. Blood analysis revealed a concerning decrease in healthy blood cells and an increase in inflammatory markers, indicating an unhealthy state. However, we found that when these mice were treated with ATRA, their conditions improved remarkably.

The treated mice regained weight, saw improvements in their blood parameters, and exhibited lower levels of cancer-related inflammation. Notably, the expression of the COX-2 gene—an important player in inflammation and cancer—was dramatically reduced with ATRA treatment in both lung and liver tissues. This suggests that ATRA effectively counteracts the inflammatory effects and may help prevent the initial stages of cancer caused by B(a)P exposure.

Overall, our findings highlight the potential of vitamin A in mitigating some of the risks associated with lung cancer development due to environmental carcinogens, supporting further exploration of its role in cancer prevention.

We examined the impact of vitamin A deficiency (VAD) on the progression of lupus nephritis in a mouse model. By inducing VAD during pregnancy or after weaning, we discovered that both methods significantly worsened the condition, leading to higher mortality rates.

Interestingly, restoring vitamin A levels after weaning reduced mortality. This suggests that VAD accelerates lupus nephritis through increased immune cell activation and autoantibody production. However, effects were less pronounced when VAD was introduced post-weaning. Overall, the study highlights the potential dangers of vitamin A deficiency in autoimmune diseases.

We examined a rare case involving a 13-year-old girl who experienced symptoms of headache and visual disturbances due to benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) related to vitamin A toxicity. This condition was characterized by elevated pressure inside her skull, which led to her experiencing severe headaches, photophobia, and vomiting.

After conducting various tests, including magnetic resonance imaging and a lumbar puncture, we confirmed the diagnosis of BIH. Treatment was initiated with acetazolamide, a medication commonly used to reduce intracranial pressure. Although the study primarily focuses on the condition resulting from vitamin A excess, the use of acetazolamide makes it challenging to isolate the effect of vitamin A on headache relief specifically.

What's particularly noteworthy in this case is the significant elevation of serum vitamin A levels, which aligned with her symptoms. Following treatment, this patient showed a remarkable clinical improvement, including a reduction in papilledema during regular eye check-ups. Within just two weeks after starting treatment, she was discharged symptom-free, highlighting how important it is to consider vitamin A levels in children presenting with similar symptoms.

This case serves as a reminder for clinicians regarding the potential consequences of vitamin A toxicity, especially when evaluating children with headaches correlated to papilledema.

I started taking this product for chronic headaches related to low cerebrospinal fluid. I advise against using it without a doctor’s supervision, as Vitamin A can build up to toxic levels. The product quality is good, arriving in a sealed bottle. Despite being fish liver derived, it has no fishy aftertaste. I will order this again.

We explored how dietary habits, specifically vitamin A intake, affect menstrual disorders like dysmenorrhea and irregular menstrual cycles among female university students in Bangladesh.

Our findings suggest that students consuming more vitamin A-rich plant foods are significantly less likely to experience these painful conditions. In fact, those who increased their intake had a 40% lower risk of dysmenorrhea and a 60% lower risk of an irregular menstrual cycle.

We also noticed that high fat and sweet food cravings heightened the likelihood of these issues, prompting us to recommend better dietary choices and regular exercise for improved health.

We examined a case of a 4-year-old boy who experienced severe bone pain and related symptoms after taking high doses of vitamin A for three months. Despite typical liver-related complications usually associated with vitamin A toxicity, he presented with significant musculoskeletal issues and skin changes. Following the discontinuation of vitamin A, the boy showed a remarkable recovery within two months. This case highlights that excessive vitamin A intake can lead to serious bone pain and other health problems, though he did not develop liver disease as expected.

We investigated the impact of vitamin A in treating heart disease, specifically after a myocardial infarction (MI). Our study focused on over 150 cardiac surgery patients, with a particular emphasis on the effects of vitamin A on bone marrow stem cells. We discovered that MI led to harmful changes in these stem cells and that vitamin A, specifically its metabolite 4-oxo-retinoic acid, helps reduce inflammation by calming the stem cells. This approach could improve heart function in the long run after an MI.

We explored how vitamin A affects our body’s response to cold, specifically looking at its role in transforming white fat into brown fat, a process known as browning. This transformation is significant, as it can help reduce obesity and improve metabolic health.

In our investigation, we conducted cold exposure studies involving both mice and humans. We observed that exposure to cold led to an increase in circulating vitamin A, also known as retinol, and its transporter protein, Rbp. However, in mice lacking this protein, we found that their ability to adapt to the cold and promote thermogenesis—essentially, generating heat through fat—was severely compromised.

Interestingly, we also noted that stimulating human fat cells with retinol heightened the expression of genes associated with thermogenesis and boosted mitochondrial activity, which is vital for burning fat. In humans, the rise in vitamin A during cold exposure hinted at improved fat utilization.

Overall, our findings revealed that not only are vitamin A levels responsive to cold, but effective transportation of this vitamin is crucial for cold-induced fat browning and the body's ability to generate heat.

We conducted a double-masked, placebo-controlled trial involving 15,832 Nepali women to explore how vitamin A and beta-carotene supplementation affects pregnancy-related nausea and overall illness symptoms. Our observations showed that while there was no noticeable impact during the early stages of pregnancy, vitamin A supplementation made a significant difference in late pregnancy.

Specifically, we found that women who received vitamin A experienced a reduction in nausea. Additionally, symptoms such as faintness and night blindness were also less prevalent in those women. Beta-carotene supplementation did not yield the same benefits for nausea, highlighting the unique role of vitamin A in managing these symptoms.

Moreover, supplementation with vitamin A contributed to a shorter labor duration, which is promising for expectant mothers. It also helped reduce the postpartum risks of conditions like night blindness and loose stools. Overall, our findings indicate that ensuring adequate vitamin A intake can be important for improving reproductive health in women, particularly in areas with limited healthcare access.
