Dr. Theocharis Koufakis holds a medical degree (M.D.) from Aristotle University and a Ph.D. in the pathogenesis of complex diseases from the Medical School, University of Thessaly, Greece. He completed his speciality training in Internal Medicine at the General Hospital of Larissa, Greece, and received post-graduate training in diabetes at King’s College Hospital, London, UK and Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a certified diabetologist by the Greek Ministry of Health. At present, he is an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he conducts clinical, research, and teaching work. He is an author and coauthor of 121 articles in PubMed-indexed journals, more than 110 abstracts in national and international conferences, and 3 book chapters. His main research interests include diabetes mellitus and the effects of religious and intermittent fasting on human health.
