Vitamin D3 may aid inflammation
Elevated Pro-inflammatory Cytokine Levels in Acute Reflux Esophagitis Are Reduced by 1,25 Dihydroxy Vitamin D3.
We aimed to understand whether vitamin D3 can have a beneficial effect on reflux esophagitis (RE), a condition caused by stomach acid irritating the esophagus. To explore this, we conducted experiments on seventy male Sprague-Dawley rats, dividing them into groups to study both acute and chronic forms of RE. We treated some of these rats with varying doses of vitamin D3, while others did not receive this treatment, allowing us to compare differences in inflammation levels.
The results showed that the levels of important pro-inflammatory proteins—IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8—were significantly elevated in the rats suffering from RE. However, when we treated the rats with vitamin D3, we observed a notable reduction in these inflammatory markers, but only in the acute RE group. Unfortunately, similar benefits were not evident in the chronic RE group, and vitamin D3 did not improve the overall condition of the esophagus on a structural level.
Interestingly, our histopathological examinations revealed varying degrees of esophageal damage, regardless of vitamin D3 treatment. While elevated serum calcium levels were noted following vitamin D3 treatment, this did not translate into improvements in chronic RE cases. Overall, our findings point to a potential protective role of vitamin D3 in early-stage reflux esophagitis, suggesting that it might help manage inflammation at the beginning of this condition.

I find Ester-C to be the best vitamin C as it uses calcium ascorbate, which prevents heartburn or reflux. With my sensitive stomach, I handle this product very well, and it contains no added sugar or harmful sweeteners. It’s worth noting that sugar can hinder vitamin C absorption, so this formulation is ideal.

Effectiveness of L-glutamine unclear
Naturopathic Approach to Functional Dyspepsia: A Case Report.
We examined a case report detailing the naturopathic management of functional dyspepsia, particularly focusing on a 25-year-old female graduate student experiencing several gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, epigastric pain, and reflux. While the report highlighted the use of L-glutamine along with other interventions, it did not provide specific data on how effective L-glutamine was on its own in alleviating reflux symptoms.
The patient underwent a treatment regimen that included an elimination diet and the use of apple cider vinegar alongside L-glutamine. Within a week of starting the treatment, the patient reported significant improvement in her symptoms. Notably, by the end of one month, she had resolved nearly all symptoms, with the exception of straining during bowel movements.
However, because L-glutamine was used in combination with other therapies, we cannot definitively assess its isolated impact on reflux symptoms. Jarrow Formulas L-Glutamine 1000 has been excellent for my heartburn and reflux. I was previously on acid blockers, which provided some relief, yet I still experienced heartburn and reflux. Following a nutritionist's advice, I began taking both L-Glutamine and PepZinGI, ultimately stopping the acid blockers. Now, I no longer suffer from reflux and rarely have heartburn. I take four L-Glutamine capsules each morning on an empty stomach and two PepZinGI tablets with food. I've noticed that L-Glutamine alone performs exceptionally well, as I forgot to take PepZinGI a couple of times without experiencing symptoms. Nonetheless, PepZinGI is necessary, as I faced some recurring symptoms after a week without it.

My wife and I have tried a few other vitamin C brands that gave her terrible heartburn. We've been taking NOW vitamin C for some time now (on our second bottle), and she hasn't experienced any heartburn or acid reflux issues from it. The pills aren't tiny, but I find them easy to swallow. I can't recall when I last felt unwell, and I truly believe that taking vitamin C is the primary reason. I currently take two tablets daily (2,000 mg in total), one with breakfast and one with dinner. I usually increase to four when I've been around sick people.

We explored the effects of Lactobacillus species on bile-induced DNA damage in esophageal cells, which occurs during gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). By exposing these bacteria to a bile-rich environment, we found they could survive and interact beneficially with injured cells.

No stomach irritation with this one. I've tried several multivitamins, and Rainbow Light is particularly gentle on my sensitive stomach. It doesn't cause reflux or nausea, making it ideal for me. I appreciate that I only need to take one tablet a day, rather than four. The tablets are not the smallest, but that doesn’t concern me. As for the smell, it's only slightly herby, which doesn’t bother me.

We investigated whether GutsyGum™, a chewing gum with apple cider vinegar, could ease gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) symptoms after a reflux-heavy meal. In a double-blind study with 24 participants, we found that those who chewed GutsyGum™ reported significantly lower heartburn and acid reflux scores compared to those who used a placebo gum.
While there were positive trends in reducing symptoms like nausea and belching, these didn't reach statistical significance. Overall, GutsyGum™ shows promise for alleviating primary reflux symptoms, but it seems we still need to explore its full potential.

We investigated how Vitamin D3 affects inflammation caused by reflux esophagitis—a condition where stomach acid irritates the esophagus. In our study, we used 70 male rats, dividing them into groups to examine the impact of Vitamin D3 at different doses on inflammation levels.
Our findings revealed that the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 were significantly elevated in cases of acute reflux esophagitis. However, when we treated these rats with Vitamin D3, we observed that the inflammation markers decreased notably in the acute cases, while there wasn’t any significant change in the chronic cases.
Despite some improvements in cytokine levels with Vitamin D3, we noted that the overall morphological damage to the esophagus remained unchanged. Interestingly, while Vitamin D3 did raise serum calcium levels, it didn’t seem to help repair esophageal damage in the longer-term chronic setting.
These results suggest that while Vitamin D3 has the potential to mitigate inflammation in early stages of reflux esophagitis, it does not offer a complete solution regarding the physical damage caused by the condition over time.

A fantastic product! I believe Lecithin is essential for everyone. My husband and I use it; he relies on it for liver support. He often experienced unpleasant sensations in his stomach, including heartburn and reflux. After starting the omega-3 complex, these symptoms disappeared almost immediately, and he continues to take it regularly. I highly recommend this sunflower Lecithin, which is GMO-free!
