Frequently Asked Questions

Dizziness is a term that describes a range of sensations, including feelings of lightheadedness, unsteadiness, or a false sense of spinning, often referred to as vertigo. This condition can be caused by various factors, including inner ear problems, dehydration, low blood pressure, or certain medications. While it might feel like a minor annoyance for some, dizziness can be a warning sign of more serious health issues, particularly if it is sudden or accompanied by other symptoms such as headache, vision changes, or difficulty speaking.

For those experiencing occasional dizziness, remedies may include staying hydrated, avoiding sudden movements, and engaging in balance exercises. However, persistent dizziness warrants a consultation with a healthcare provider, as it can signify underlying health concerns like vestibular disorders or neurological conditions. Understanding the root cause of dizziness is crucial for effective management, whether through lifestyle modifications or more involved medical treatments.

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in several vital functions in the human body. It is essential for red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis. Naturally occurring in animal products, the vitamin can be found in high concentrations in meat, fish, eggs, and dairy, making it particularly important for those following a vegetarian or vegan diet, as plant-based sources of B12 are limited and often require supplementation.

A deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to serious health issues, including anemia, fatigue, memory problems, and nerve damage. Due to its significance, it's crucial for individuals, particularly those at risk of deficiency, to ensure adequate intake through diet or supplementation. For most adults, the recommended daily allowance (RDA) is around 2.4 micrograms, though pregnant or breastfeeding women may require higher amounts. If you're considering B12 supplements, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the best option for your specific needs and health status.

Cervical vertigo treatment comparison
We explored the effectiveness of various treatment methods for cervical vertigo, focusing particularly on the role of vitamin B12. In this study, we randomly assigned 91 patients to one of three groups: routine acupuncture, electroacupuncture, or a combination of electroacupuncture with acupoint injection of vitamin B12 along with lidocaine. Over four weeks, patients received 20 treatments, and we measured changes in blood flow in key arteries as well as patient-reported symptoms.

The results revealed that all three treatment methods were effective in alleviating symptoms of dizziness. Notably, the combined therapy, which included vitamin B12, showed the best results, followed by electroacupuncture. While vitamin B12 was part of a successful treatment method, its isolated effect on dizziness could not be clearly determined from this study alone because it was evaluated alongside other treatment modalities.

Overall, we learned that while routine acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and combined therapies can improve cervical vertigo symptoms, it’s challenging to ascertain the specific contributions of vitamin B12 without further focused research.
