We investigated how a combination of citicoline and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) might impact retinal cell health in a mouse model of ocular hypertension (OHT). Using four groups of mice, including those receiving the combination treatment and a control group, we aimed to understand if these substances could protect against the loss of retinal ganglion cells, which is a major concern in glaucoma.

The treatment was started 15 days prior to inducing ocular hypertension with a laser and continued until we examined the mice about a week later. Our findings were promising: the combination of citicoline and CoQ10 led to a temporary reduction in eye pressure shortly after treatment. Furthermore, it significantly prevented the death of specific retinal cells that are vital for vision.

While we were encouraged by these results, especially regarding cell protection, it's important to note that there were no significant impacts on neurons in the visual pathway areas we studied, like the dLGN. Overall, our research suggests that this combination might offer neuroprotective benefits in specific aspects of ocular hypertension, paving the way for further exploration into treatments that go beyond only lowering eye pressure.

Excellent product! Although this is not Ubiquinol, it absorbs slightly better and costs less. It is now recommended in a new nutrition book titled "It's Not the Cans: The Best Nutrient Balance for a Stronger and Healthier You." I believe this product is suitable for all ages. For those unfamiliar with CoQ10, it has been suggested that individuals over 40 struggle to absorb regular CoQ10 effectively, hence the recommendation for the more costly Ubiquinol. This was accurate 6+ years ago, but no longer holds true! Recent studies suggest this product absorbs better than Ubiquinol and is more affordable. Science evolves, and competition fosters advancements in health supplements.

This product, Jarrow Formulas Ubiquinol QH 100 MG, has actually helped me manage my hypertension effectively. After taking it for a month, I've noticed significant improvements. I'm so pleased that I've referred it to a neighbour. The only downside is that the softgel is slightly large for swallowing.
