Wheat peptides improve constipation symptoms
We aimed to see how wheat peptides (WP) could help with constipation. In a trial with 49 participants, those consuming WP experienced an increase of more than two bowel movements per week, compared to just 0.4 in the placebo group.

Not only did WP improve bowel movement frequency, but it also enhanced participants' quality of life and satisfaction regarding constipation. In animal studies, WP improved gut motility and altered gut microbiota linked to constipation.

Overall, our findings suggest that integrating wheat peptides into the diet could be a simple yet effective way to alleviate constipation.

Efficacy of wheat grass for constipation
We set out to determine how effective wheat grass, or testa triticum tricum purif, is for treating functional constipation in adults aged 55 to 85 years. In a thorough multicenter randomized controlled trial, participants were given either wheat grass or a standard laxative, PEG4000, for eight weeks.

While both treatments showed benefits, we found that wheat grass had slightly lower improvement rates compared to PEG4000. However, it significantly increased the frequency of spontaneous bowel movements and led to better stool consistency. With only one report of mild discomfort, wheat grass appears to be a safe alternative for managing constipation in older adults.

Wheat fiber shows mixed results
We explored the effects of a concentrated wheat fiber preparation, Testa Triticum Tricum, on constipation symptoms in twenty participants over six weeks.

While we observed improvements in gut transit time and a decrease in deoxycholic acid levels in bile, it appears these effects are not linked.

The total bile acid pool expanded and the cholesterol saturation index dropped, suggesting a potential benefit for bile composition. However, there was no significant relationship between the changes in gut transit and bile composition.

Overall, the results indicate that while wheat fiber may improve some aspects, its direct impact on constipation is inconclusive.
