We explored how the treatment with JB-1—a type of probiotic bacteria—affects anxiety during chronic stress in rats. In our study, half of the twenty rats received JB-1 while the other half got a placebo over eight weeks of stress exposure.

The results were telling! Rats on JB-1 showed less anxiety and were more willing to explore their environment compared to the placebo group, which largely avoided exploration. Additionally, measurements of brain metabolites indicated that JB-1 helped maintain stability in brain chemistry, even in stressful conditions.

This suggests that lactobacillus rhamnosus might play a beneficial role in reducing anxiety during prolonged stress.

We aimed to investigate how Lactococcus lactis subsp. LL95 affects anxiety and depression-like behaviors in mice. After administering LL95 orally for 28 days, we observed notable improvements in behavior. Mice showed less immobility in tests designed to measure depression and preferred open spaces, suggesting decreased anxiety levels. These findings highlight LL95's potential as a therapeutic probiotic, extending its benefits beyond gut health and showcasing its effects on mental well-being.

Probiotic improves anxiety in mice
We examined how Lactococcus lactis E001-B-8 impacts anxiety in female mice under chronic stress conditions. Through a series of behavioral tests, we found that this probiotic not only helped improve cognitive function but also reduced anxiety-like behaviors.

Unlike traditional treatments like FLX, L. lactis was linked to better serotonin metabolism and healthier gut microbiome composition. This suggests that enhancing gut health could be a promising approach for anxiety management.

Probiotics impact anxiety in AD
We investigated how probiotics, specifically Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium BB-12, can affect anxiety in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease. In our study, we found that mice treated with these probiotics exhibited significantly reduced anxiety-like behaviors compared to those exposed to aluminum chloride alone.

Through various behavioral tests, it was evident that this probiotic combination also improved memory functions. Our results suggest that leveraging the gut-brain axis through these probiotics could offer a promising approach for alleviating anxiety and cognitive deficits in neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's.

Probiotic alleviates IBS-D symptoms
We conducted a study to assess how well the probiotic CECT 7347 (ES1) and the heat-treated version (HT-ES1) helped alleviate diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) symptoms in adults. Over 84 days, participants took either the probiotic, the postbiotic, or a placebo, reporting significant improvement in key measures like symptom severity, quality of life, and even anxiety levels. The results demonstrated a notable reduction in IBS symptoms, making it one of the first trials to show such effectiveness in this area.

Bifidobacterium longum may ease anxiety
We examined the impact of a probiotic blend, Bifidobacterium longum strains 1714® and 35642®, on anxiety and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms in patients. Over eight weeks, we observed that the treatment helped restore the stress response and improved IBS symptoms and psychometric scores for anxiety and depression.

Interestingly, the benefits continued after stopping treatment, suggesting a lasting positive effect. The findings indicate that managing stress can significantly influence IBS symptoms and associated mood disturbances.

Bifidobacterium lactis reduces anxiety significantly
We conducted a thorough investigation into the effects of Bifidobacterium lactis, known as Probio-M8, on anxiety and overall well-being in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Over six months, we compared a group receiving the probiotic with a placebo group.

Notably, those in the probiotic group reported significant improvements in anxiety levels and other markers of mental health. This suggests that enhancing gut health can also positively influence our mood and emotional states.

With ongoing research, it’s becoming clearer how beneficial our gut bacteria can be for our overall mental and physical wellness.

We investigated how the probiotic Bifidobacterium longum NCC3001 impacts anxiety in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Over six weeks, participants received either the probiotic or a placebo, allowing us to assess changes in anxiety and depression levels.

The results were promising! Patients taking the probiotic showed significant reductions in their anxiety scores and changes in brain activity related to emotional responses. Notably, higher levels of butyric acid and increased probiotic abundance in feces were linked to these improvements.

Our findings suggest that Bifidobacterium longum may play a beneficial role in managing anxiety by influencing gut-brain interactions.

Probiotic effects on anxiety limited
We conducted a clinical trial aimed at understanding the effect of caloric restriction combined with probiotic supplementation on various health factors, including anxiety, in obese men.

After 12 weeks, while the probiotic had no additional benefit on body composition or overall quality of life, we noted improvements in anxiety and depressive symptoms among those who received the probiotics.

However, there were no significant differences between the groups overall, suggesting that more research is necessary to fully understand this relationship.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus shows mixed benefits
In a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial, we investigated whether a multi-species probiotic containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus could help reduce anxiety and improve cognitive function in healthy older adults.

Over a ten-week period, participants consumed the probiotic daily and were assessed for cognitive abilities and emotional well-being.

While significant improvements were found in cognitive and emotional functions, including planning and memory, the study provided limited evidence specifically addressing anxiety benefits.

Therefore, while promising, the role of Lactobacillus rhamnosus for anxiety treatment in older adults remains uncertain.
