I take this in conjunction with another supplement that I've also found helpful and wrote a review on. I can't speak to its use alone, so I'm sharing the review I wrote for the other supplement: I'm someone who has had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep since I was probably 8. 22 years later now, I've tried many things short of the addictive route to help with sleep. Yoga nidra meditation is helpful, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Hypnosis is helpful, but sometimes my ears get overstimulated from listening. Therapy helped quite a bit, as did getting on a schedule and a strict bedtime routine, but there are still occasional nights where I wake up at 2am, can't get back to sleep, and have to commute over an hour to work, then back in the evening. I also tried a magnesium citrate or glycinate, which helped a lot initially, but then the stress of grad school overrode the positive effects that the magnesium had on my sleep. Fast forward to last when I listened to Dr. Andrew Huberman and he recommended l-theanine and magnesium threonate. I ordered them right away after scouring reviews to be sure I got a good product. I've taken this with the l-theanine every night an hour before bed and it works very well. If you see the screenshot I've attached, Wednesday was the first night I took it and you can see how different my sleep duration was from the previous few nights, and how my duration has stayed consistently high for Thursday and Friday night.
