I was prescribed biotin for hair loss and scalp itching, and I've noticed improvements for my psoriasis as well. It aids lipid, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism, and is beneficial for digestion and low hemoglobin. While the effects may not be immediately striking, they positively influence multiple bodily functions. I also add it to hair masks.

Nail growth improvement

My nails and hair have changed. I initially hoped this biotin would improve my psoriasis. I've been taking other supplements, so I can’t pinpoint the improvement. After about two weeks, my nails and hair grew faster. However, psoriasis did appear on my nails, which did not grow as much, but I found myself needing to clip them more often than usual. Even my thumb nail, which hardly stretched, showed improvement, and I felt I needed a haircut sooner than usual.

I take biotin with Vitamin C to ease my psoriasis symptoms. I noticed a significant difference when I paused, and I've been using it for years. I'm grateful for strong biotin as it isn't widely available in Australia.
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that primarily affects the skin, leading to the rapid growth of skin cells that accumulate, forming scales and red patches that can be itchy and sometimes painful. These changes occur due to an abnormal immune response that accelerates the skin renewal process. The disease can vary in severity, with some individuals experiencing mild flare-ups while others endure more severe symptoms. Psoriasis commonly appears on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back, but it can occur anywhere on the body.
There are several types of psoriasis, with plaque psoriasis being the most common form, characterized by raised, inflamed patches covered with silvery-white scales. Other types include guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic psoriasis. While the exact cause of psoriasis is still not entirely understood, it is believed to involve genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. Treatments vary widely and can range from topical medications and phototherapy to systemic treatments aimed at reducing inflammation and slowing skin cell turnover. If you suspect you have psoriasis, consulting a healthcare provider is advisable to explore the most appropriate treatment options.
Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble B-vitamin that plays a crucial role in various metabolic processes in the body. It is essential for converting nutrients into energy and is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, amino acids, and glucose. Biotin is naturally found in a variety of foods, including eggs, nuts, seeds, fish, meat, dairy products, and certain vegetables. While deficiencies are rare due to its abundance in common diets, they can lead to symptoms such as hair loss, skin rashes, and neurological issues.
Many people take biotin supplements believing they can improve hair, skin, and nail health. Although there is some evidence to support the benefits of biotin for hair growth—especially in those with a deficiency—more research is needed to establish its efficacy for those with sufficient levels. The FDA does not regulate dietary supplements as strictly as medications, so it’s crucial to choose high-quality products from reputable manufacturers. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement to ensure it’s appropriate for your specific needs.

One reviewer highlighted their inability to pinpoint which supplement triggered the improvements in their nails and hair, indicating concurrent use without clear results for psoriasis Read Review. There are also accounts of individuals who remain unsure of biotin’s effectiveness on their psoriasis, suggesting the need for more time or clarification on how combined supplements impact their condition Read Review. I take one tablet daily, and I believe my skin has become more moisturised. My severe psoriasis on my knees has improved; the creams I tried did not work as well as this. Although I still experience some itching, the white patches have calmed down, and I intend to continue using this for a while.
