Lubiprostone improves constipation outcomes
We investigated how lubiprostone—a treatment for chronic constipation—affects bowel habits and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

Over two weeks, 29 women took lubiprostone and reported improved bowel movement frequency and softer stools. We measured different gut transit times and assessed SIBO status with a breath test.

The results revealed that lubiprostone not only speeds up intestinal movement but also helps reduce SIBO, likely due to increased fluid and motility in the intestines.

Probiotics improve colonoscopy prep
We examined whether a 2-week probiotics treatment could help constipated patients by improving bowel cleansing before colonoscopy. The study involved two groups: one received probiotics while the other got a placebo. Our findings showed that those on probiotics experienced significantly better bowel preparation and fewer post-procedure symptoms compared to the placebo group. Interestingly, patients with normal bowel habits also participated but did not see a difference between treatments. Overall, probiotics can enhance the colonoscopy experience for constipated individuals.

PEG-ELS effective for constipation
We explored if polyethylene glycol electrolyte lavage solution (PEG-ELS) could help with chronic constipation. In a controlled, double-blind study involving 32 patients, we switched between PEG-ELS and a placebo, analyzing their bowel movements and stool consistency over five days.

The results were promising! PEG-ELS significantly improved both stool frequency and consistency compared to the placebo. The best outcomes were seen with a daily dosage of 16 ounces. Fortunately, any side effects were minimal. Overall, PEG-ELS appears to be an effective option for managing chronic constipation.

Constipation has been a long-standing issue for me, causing irritation throughout the day. I would only manage to defecate twice a week, which was extremely painful. However, since I began using Nature's Secret, Multi-Herb Colon Cleanse, I now go twice a day. I feel much lighter and comfortable, no longer cranky in the mornings. I've shared my positive experience with others.

Lactobacillus improves IBS-C symptoms
We investigated how a cultured milk drink containing Lactobacillus acidophilus affects symptoms of constipation in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C). Over 30 days, participants consumed the drink daily.

At the end of the study, an impressive 97.4% of IBS-C participants reported improvement in their constipation-related symptoms. We also noticed reductions in intestinal transit time and pro-inflammatory cytokines linked to IBS. Overall, this suggests that including this cultured milk drink may be a beneficial addition to IBS-C treatment plans.

Moringa leaves relieve rat constipation
We investigated how Moringa oleifera leaves might help alleviate constipation, particularly in rats fed a low-fiber diet. By using a variety of methods, including hormone analysis and histological evaluations, we observed that the hot water extract of Moringa leaves showed potential laxative effects.

The study indicated that this effect could involve specific signaling pathways affecting gastrointestinal motility. However, it is essential to note that these findings were based on a rat model, which may not directly translate to human experiences with constipation.

Peristeen improves children's bowel health
This study investigated how the Peristeen transanal irrigation system could help manage constipation in young patients with anorectal malformations and spinal cord lesions.

Eight paediatric centers in Italy participated, enrolling children aged 6 to 17 with unsatisfactory bowel management. Over three months, we saw marked improvements.

Constipation rates dropped significantly—69% to 25.6% in anorectal malformations and 92.7% to 41.5% in spinal cord lesions. Notably, we also observed an increase in independence and overall quality of life.

Decades of relief

The best remedy I've encountered over many decades as I've suffered from constipation since I was ten years old. Now at 62, I find it safe and non-addictive. It yields predictable improvements; even with serious issues, one caplet twice a day suffices. I'm just amazed! I have purchased a second jar and intend to buy more.

Probiotics improve constipation symptoms
We conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving 92 children aged 4 to 12 with functional constipation. Over four weeks, we provided one group with a probiotic chewable tablet containing specific strains and compared their experiences to a placebo group.

The findings were promising; the probiotic group reported a significant improvement in stool frequency and a decrease in hard defecation. Specifically, hard stools decreased from 43% to 14%, while normal defecation increased from 56% to 80%. This study highlights the potential of probiotics as a valuable option for managing constipation in children.
7
Probiotics and fiber improve IBS
We evaluated how adding dietary fiber to multistrain probiotics affects constipation in IBS. In our study, 142 participants were split into two groups: one received probiotic milk only, and the other had the same milk infused with dietary fiber for four weeks.

Both groups reported improvements, but those who consumed the fiber-enriched milk showed better results in defecation frequency and straining. This suggests that dietary fiber enhances the constipation relief provided by probiotics, especially for those with constipation-predominant IBS.
We explored the impact of multistrain probiotics, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, on functional constipation in elderly individuals living in a nursing home. In a controlled study with 60 participants, those receiving the probiotic mixture for 12 weeks showed a slight increase in stool frequency compared to the placebo group.

While the improvement was not significant overall, it became notable by the 71st day when not considering laxative use. This suggests that lactobacillus treatment could help constipation in seniors, although the effects may vary.

Colon cleanse techniques assessed
We aimed to evaluate how effective different colon cleanse techniques could be for those suffering from constipation. By comparing low-dose polyethylene glycol (PEG) mixed with various doses of linaclotide, we conducted a study involving 753 patients assigned to three different groups.

The results underscored that the 2LPEG + 2L combination was the most effective for bowel cleansing, especially in patients with chronic constipation. However, while this method showed better results, we found no major benefits over a standard regimen.

Overall, those with chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome reported improved tolerance and effectiveness from the 2LPEG + 2L treatment.
