Pectin improves constipation symptoms
We evaluated the effects of pectin, a soluble dietary fiber, on adults suffering from slow-transit constipation through a randomized controlled trial involving 80 participants. Over four weeks, one group received 24 grams of pectin daily while the other was given a placebo.

After treatment, we found that those who received pectin experienced significantly faster colonic transit times and a reduction in constipation symptoms compared to the placebo group.

Additionally, pectin positively influenced gut health by increasing beneficial bacteria populations. Overall, pectin appears to be a promising option for managing constipation.

Pectin reduces loperamide-induced constipation
We aimed to discover whether orange peel pectin could help relieve constipation brought on by loperamide in rats. In our study, we divided the rats into six groups and treated them for a week with different substances, including varying doses of orange peel pectin extract (OPPE).

Our results showed that OPPE not only increased stool weight and frequency but also improved intestinal motility. The treatment significantly countered the effects of loperamide-induced constipation, indicating that OPPE could be a beneficial option for managing constipation.

Pectin reduces constipation symptoms
We examined the effects of a newly extracted pectin, ALP-2, from the roots of Arctium lappa on constipation. Our findings revealed that this pectin significantly improved small intestinal movement and increased fecal weight in treated mice, indicating its strong anti-constipation properties. ALP-2 was shown to be effective at doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg. This suggests that ALP-2 could serve as a valuable ingredient in foods or therapies designed to alleviate constipation.

I take pectin for its beneficial properties as I suffer from a delicate issue—constipation. Pectin contains both soluble and insoluble fibres; it not only gently cleanses the intestines but also promotes healthy microflora. For enhanced effect, combining it with psyllium from the same brand works wonders. I’m 100% satisfied with the results!

This amazing natural substance from apples cleanses the body, aids healing, and even helps in weight loss. Apple pectin acts as a sorbent, collecting and gently removing toxins from the intestines. After trying it, my stool returned to normal, and constipation is no longer a concern. I've noticed a decrease in appetite too. I previously used psyllium husks, but this is much more convenient and effective. I highly recommend trying it!

We investigated how the extract of Cheonnyuncho cactus (Opuntia humifusa) affects constipation in rats. The study involved using loperamide to induce constipation, followed by two groups receiving different concentrations of the cactus extract over 25 days.

The results showed that the extract led to a significant increase in fecal output and water content while also improving gut health. While the results are promising, further research is needed to confirm these findings in humans and better understand the mechanisms at play.

Effective treatment for slow transit constipation
We set out to see how effective a combination of fecal microbiota transplantation, soluble dietary fiber like pectin, and probiotics could be for patients with slow transit constipation. Over 12 weeks, 23 patients received a thorough treatment, including FMT and recommended fiber consumption at 8 grams daily.

Excitingly, the results indicated significant improvements in symptoms and overall quality of life. Participants reported better bowel movements and reduced constipation symptoms.

This approach not only proved safe but also shows promise for those struggling with slow transit constipation.

Constipation relief

After drinking for 7 to 8 hours, I had a pleasant bowel movement. The waste seemed to exit my body cleanly. Constipation vanished immediately after I began taking two tablets daily, and now I manage well with just one tablet every 3 to 4 days. As it's dietary fibre, I'm curious if it affects the absorption of my other supplements. I take vitamins and minerals in the morning and afternoon, and the dietary fibre at bedtime.

Pectin shows promise for constipation
We conducted a study examining the effects of combining fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) with soluble dietary fiber, specifically pectin, on slow transit constipation (STC).

In a group of 31 adults with STC, we found that after initial treatment, many patients experienced significant improvements in their bowel movements and overall constipation symptoms.

After one year, nearly half of them continued to have regular bowel movements, showing the potential of this combined treatment for long-term relief from constipation. It appears that pectin, when used with FMT, can offer lasting benefits for those suffering from STC.
