We investigated the effects of Hypericum perforatum, commonly known as St. John's Wort, on anxiety that follows a heart attack. Our research focused on measuring how this herbal treatment could help in not just relieving anxiety, but also improving heart functions after a myocardial infarction (MI).
To enhance the absorption and efficacy of HP, we formulated it into a self-nanoemulsifying self-nanosuspension (HP.SNESNS). In our study, we used a group of rats that had experienced MI and observed that HP.SNESNS significantly reduced anxiety and depressive-like behaviors, alongside cognitive dysfunction.
Notably, it increased levels of essential neurotransmitters like norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain, which are known to play a vital role in mood regulation. Additionally, we found that HP.SNESNS helped protect heart tissues by reducing inflammation markers and restoring heart architecture. Overall, these improvements were comparable to those seen with higher doses of unformulated HP.
In conclusion, our findings indicate that HP.SNESNS not only helps manage anxiety in a post-MI context but also offers cardio-protective benefits, making it a promising candidate for further research.

We set out to evaluate how extracts from Hypericum perforatum (HP), commonly known as St. John’s Wort, along with quercetin (Q), could impact anxiety and overall brain health. In this study, we used a rat model to observe various biological effects, particularly focusing on oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which can influence anxiety levels.
The rats were divided into different groups, receiving either a control treatment, a known anxiety-inducing agent, or our test compounds. Over a period of 21 days, we administered HP and Q and monitored several brain and serum markers associated with anxiety.
