L-theanine is a quality supplement for anxiety and stress, derived from green tea. It should be taken with food. A study published in Nature indicates that the combination of caffeine and theanine helps individuals with ADHD maintain calm focus. The capsules are odourless and tasteless. I’ve been using this remedy since 2015, and it has consistently helped. My Fitbit shows a decrease in heart rate a few hours after intake. Since L-theanine has a half-life of 90 minutes, another capsule is needed after about three hours. It's suitable for a vegetarian diet.

I use this to mitigate the side effects of my ADHD medication, particularly bruxism (teeth grinding). It provides a calming effect without acting as a CNS depressant or a controlled substance. I feel it has worked effectively, allowing me to tolerate my ADHD medication without the discomfort of grinding my teeth to the point of bleeding. I have tried other brands, and this one is significantly superior.

This product has produced great results for ADHD, and I can truly see the difference. It’s essential to have this supplement in every household.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. The symptoms typically present in early childhood and can continue into adolescence and adulthood. Individuals with ADHD may find it challenging to focus, organize tasks, follow through on instructions, and regulate their emotions. Hyperactivity can manifest as excessive fidgeting or an inability to remain seated in structured environments, while impulsivity may lead to hasty actions without considering the consequences.
Diagnosis of ADHD involves comprehensive assessments, often including behavioral evaluations and standardized rating scales, to determine how symptoms impact the individual’s daily life. Treatment can vary widely and may include behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, and medications such as stimulants or non-stimulants, aimed at improving attention span and impulse control. Understanding ADHD is crucial, not only for effective management but also for reducing stigma and promoting awareness. As our understanding of neurodiversity expands, more resources and support systems are becoming available to help those with ADHD thrive in both academic and social settings.
L-theanine is a naturally occurring amino acid most commonly found in tea leaves, particularly green tea, and is known for its potential calming effects. While caffeine can lead to increased alertness and focus, L-theanine promotes relaxation without causing drowsiness, making it a popular supplement among those seeking to enhance their mental performance while also managing stress. It is believed to work by influencing the production of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, which can positively affect mood and cognitive function.
Many users report that L-theanine may enhance the benefits of caffeine, leading to improved focus and reduced feelings of jitteriness when consumed together. This unique combination is often sought after by students and professionals during periods of intense concentration or study. As a dietary supplement, L-theanine is available in various forms, including capsules, powders, and tea, allowing individuals to choose the method that best fits their lifestyle. Typically, dosages range from 100 to 400 mg per day, depending on the intended effects and individual tolerance.
While L-Theanine is often discussed for its calming effects and ability to promote relaxation without sedation, there is limited research specifically addressing its efficacy in treating ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). This amino acid, primarily found in green tea, can enhance focus and attention, which are crucial symptoms for those with ADHD. Some anecdotal evidence suggests that L-Theanine may help alleviate stress and anxiety, potentially providing individuals with ADHD a better environment to concentrate.
However, it's important to note that while L-Theanine may have benefits for stress reduction and improved cognitive function in some individuals, relying on it solely for the management of ADHD is not advisable. Comprehensive treatment plans often include behavioral therapy and, in many cases, medication. Always consult with a healthcare provider before adding any supplement to your routine, particularly for managing conditions like ADHD, as individualized treatment is key to effective management.
According to user reviews, the timeframe for noticing results from L-theanine as a supplement for ADHD can vary. Some users report feeling the calming effects almost immediately, especially when taken alongside caffeine, which enhances concentration despite their ADHD diagnosis Read Review. Others suggest that consistent use over a week can lead to significant improvements in focus and calmness, particularly when combined with other supplements like magnesium Read Review.
Overall, many users have positively evaluated L-theanine's effectiveness for ADHD, with reports of improved focus and reduced anxiety after several days to weeks of regular use Read Review. However, as with any supplement, individual experiences may vary, so it may be beneficial to monitor your response over time.
Current research indicates that L-theanine may offer some support for managing ADHD symptoms, particularly in children. A study examining the effects of L-theanine in combination with caffeine found that while L-theanine alone significantly improved cognitive functions, the combination had a positive impact on attention and inhibitory control, contrasting with caffeine's negative effects on these areas [1]. This suggests that using L-theanine could enhance cognitive performance for children with ADHD.
Furthermore, another study focused on sleep quality revealed that a daily intake of 400 mg of L-theanine substantially improved sleep in boys with ADHD. Since sleep disturbances are common among children with this condition, this finding implies that L-theanine could not only help with attention and focus but also with overall well-being by promoting better sleep [2]. However, the authors note that further research is necessary to confirm these benefits and understand the long-term implications of L-theanine use in ADHD management.
Based on user reviews, individuals have reported a variety of improvements in symptoms when using L-theanine, particularly concerning ADHD, anxiety, and stress management. Many users highlight significant enhancements in their ability to concentrate, with one user stating it acts as a "real lifesaver" for easing focus and soothing without inducing drowsiness Read Review. The calming effects have helped users manage symptoms associated with ADHD medication, such as teething grinding Read Review. Parents have also noted positive transformations in their children, pointing to greater emotional regulation and less severe ADHD symptoms when using the supplement Read Review.
Beyond ADHD, L-theanine users frequently mention alleviating overall anxiety and enhancing relaxation without sleepiness. Many have remarked on its effectiveness when combined with caffeine, which seems to optimize focus while minimizing the jitteriness often associated with caffeine alone Read Review. Consistent use over time appears to reinforce these benefits; some users noted improvements after just a few days of usage Read Review. However, it's crucial to recognize that individual results may vary widely, and what works for one person might not have the same efficacy for another.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have reported positive experiences when combining L-theanine with other supplements for managing ADHD symptoms. Notably, users have highlighted the effective pairing of L-theanine with caffeine, noting that this combination promotes a calm focus that enhances concentration without the jitteriness often associated with caffeine alone Read Review. One reviewer emphasized how this duo allowed them to read without distractions and helped manage stress levels effectively Read Review.
In addition to caffeine, some users mentioned the benefits of combining L-theanine with magnesium, which seemed to amplify the calming effects, particularly in children diagnosed with ADHD. One parent observed noticeable improvements in their child's behavior when L-theanine was taken alongside magnesium, asserting that the beneficial effects became evident after about a week of consistent use Read Review. Such combinations appear to foster not only enhanced focus but also contribute to reductions in anxiety and improved overall well-being for those managing ADHD.
The optimal dose of L-Theanine for treating ADHD appears to be 400 mg daily, based on a study that investigated its effects on sleep quality in boys aged 8 to 12 diagnosed with ADHD. Over a six-week period, participants who took this dosage of L-theanine experienced significant improvements in sleep quality compared to those on placebo [2]. Sleep issues are common in children with ADHD, making this finding particularly relevant, as better sleep can contribute to improved cognitive function and overall behavior.
While there is also evidence suggesting that L-Theanine can enhance cognitive performance, particularly when combined with caffeine, the specific optimal dosage for attention improvement remains less defined. More research is needed to draw comprehensive conclusions about the cognitive benefits and ideal doses for applications beyond sleep enhancement [1]. For parents considering L-Theanine as a potential aid for their child's ADHD, starting with the 400 mg dose for its sleep-enhancing properties might be a good option, while keeping an eye on ongoing research for broader applications.

Improved concentration
During a stressful week, I tried L-theanine in combination with caffeine. I felt the effects immediately. This combination significantly aids my concentration despite my ADHD diagnosis (as indicated by Google). It helps me read without distractions. Thanks to theanine, the caffeine influences my brain rather than my physical activity. However, after stopping caffeine, my stress resistance decreased slightly. I've increased my intake from two to three tablets in combination with caffeine, and I recommend this supplement to others, especially when paired with caffeine.

I am taking L-theanine for my son, who exhibits characteristics of ASD and ADHD. As I can't take the capsules yet, I open them and mix the contents with yogurt, though I can also drink it straight. I’m not certain if it’s solely due to this, but I can now remain calm when it’s time to make transitions, avoiding the tantrums and self-harm I experienced previously. After over a year of usage, I no longer face those issues. While I can’t be sure it's the only factor, there are no side effects, and I intend to keep taking it as I struggle with concentration due to my ADHD. I appreciate the good value of Caligo's products, and I'm pleased to incorporate this one as well.
