I'm 68. I've had more surgeries than I want to remember, including major back surgery to L1-L4.
Still, cardio is essential for the elderly, and much more so for me. (I don't have the lucky blood line that allows one to live to 100 while doing nothing out of the ordinary for that good fortune.)
So, for me, here's two important factors:
- I play 1/2 court basketball (with all ages), MWF, 8-10am, and never miss. Then, I play competition Pickleball no less than 10 hrs/week, but usually 12.
- In addition to vitamins & minerals; I'm on Chinese preventative herbs; as well as some big Pharma drugs. The latter includes Gabapentin for the 50% foot Neuropathy, and an opiate taken sparingly when the pain warrants it. Otherwise, I stick with Tylenol.
So, here the deal with this magnesium malate. When I do not take them, my thighs and especially my calves, cramp like hell. I think the mild regimen of the opiate contributes to this, but mostly, it's just being an old guy.
The Malate version seems to have the best absorption. And like a couple of other reviewers, I chew them up. Two in the morning, one in the evening. If I miss a few days, I know it. I tried fooling around with my wife after missing my magnesium for a few days; and ending up screaming for all the wrong reasons! That's no gag, it's true, even if we did laugh out asses off.
Lastly, if it's relevant, my morning libation is a double cup of strong coffee. Then, more importantly, in a 12 oz large mouth mason jar, I add a scoop of MACA powder, a scoop of collagen crystals (if I don't take this I can't even bend very well), a scoop of L-Argenine, a scoop of Creatine,
6 oz of grapefruit juice, then add 1 TBSP of COQ10 liquid concentrate, and (maybe most importantly), a TBSP of good black seed oil. Put the cap and lid on, and shake like a madman, all in an attempt to get the MACA to change from powder to mud.
Chug this down and I'm good.
Also, only on basketball days, my wonderful honey makes me a large banana/ apple/ blueberry/ Pineapple/ mango/lemon/lime smoothie, which I take with me.
What can I say, collectively, all this junk makes a world of difference. But the magnesium is a separate must. Since I'm a cradle robber, my wife is only 63, and she's giving this magnesium malate a shot for he on again/off again Restless leg syndrome, which I estimate, based on research and reviews, will help if not eliminate.
Thx.
