The whole B-complex is contained in one capsule. I have noticed real results: Despite dreary, rainy weather, I feel cheerful. This year, the usual autumn depression has not affected me. I respond calmly to work stress, viewing it as part of life. My skin is managing well through the autumn-winter transition, free from dryness and tightness. My joints are also not causing issues.

Seems to be working! Last week I noticed I was feeling unusually down for no apparent reason. I hadn’t felt this way for the past month or two, ever since I started taking B-Right along with several other vitamins and herbs. Upon realising that I had misplaced B-Right and missed taking it for a few days, I resumed taking it and haven’t felt that depression for almost a week now.

Vitamin B12 shows no benefit for depression
Assessment of Vitamin B12 Efficacy on Cognitive Memory Function and Depressive Symptoms: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
We assessed the effect of vitamin B12 supplementation on depressive symptoms by reviewing several randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Our analysis focused on participants who may experience mild cognitive impairment, an area where low vitamin B12 levels could potentially raise the risk of depression.
After a thorough examination of studies, we found that the included trials did not support a significant benefit of vitamin B12 for alleviating depressive symptoms. In our evaluation of three studies focusing specifically on depression, the average difference in symptoms was negligible, indicating no real effect.
This outcome reflects that while vitamin B12 is essential for various bodily functions, its role in improving mood and reducing depression symptoms may not be as effective as some might hope. Further exploration is still warranted to better understand the contexts in which vitamin B12 could be beneficial.

Silibinin reduces depression in mice
Silibinin ameliorates depression/anxiety-like behaviors of Parkinson's disease mouse model and is associated with attenuated STING-IRF3-IFN-β pathway activation and neuroinflammation.
We investigated the impact of silibinin, a natural compound from Silybum marianum, on depression and anxiety in mice with Parkinson's disease. Through various behavioral tests, we found that silibinin significantly reduced depressive and anxious behaviors caused by MPTP, a chemical used to induce these symptoms.
Additionally, silibinin helped repair neuronal damage in the hippocampus and restored levels of important mood-regulating neurotransmitters. It also reduced markers of neuroinflammation linked to depression, suggesting silibinin may hold promise as a treatment for these conditions in Parkinson's.

Zinc deficiency impacts brain function
Proteomics analysis in rats reveals convergent mechanisms between major depressive disorder and dietary zinc deficiency.
We aimed to uncover the connection between dietary zinc deficiency and symptoms associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). In our study, we used rats fed either a zinc-adequate diet or one deficient in zinc for four weeks.
We then analyzed the changes in protein expression in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus—two brain areas closely linked to depression. This approach allowed us to see how zinc deficiency impacts the brain at a molecular level.
Our findings revealed that significant alterations occurred in proteins related to zinc transport and mitochondrial function due to the deficiency. In particular, we saw a notable decline in the activity of complex I of the mitochondrial energy production pathway in the prefrontal cortex.
These results suggest that low zinc levels can disrupt vital brain functions, potentially contributing to the development of depressive symptoms. This highlights the importance of maintaining adequate zinc levels for mental health.

Selenium's potential in depression treatment
Antidepressant-Like Effect of a Selenoindolizine in Mice: In Vivo and In Silico Evidence for the Involvement of the Serotonergic 5-HT Receptors.
This study explored how a selenium-containing compound, SeI, impacts depression-like behavior in mice. During behavioral tests, this compound reduced immobility, signaling an antidepressant-like effect without affecting movement.
Notably, blocking specific serotonin receptors changed the results, indicating the serotonergic system's involvement. With a low potential for side effects, SeI shows promise for developing new treatments for major depressive disorder (MDD).
However, it's important to note this research was conducted in mice, so effects in humans remain unconfirmed.

L-theanine shows potential antidepressant effects
L-theanine ameliorate depressive-like behavior in a chronic unpredictable mild stress rat model via modulating the monoamine levels in limbic-cortical-striatal-pallidal-thalamic-circuit related brain regions.
We examined how L-theanine, a compound found in green tea, influences depressive behaviors in a rat model. Using specific behavioral tests, such as the open-field and forced swim tests, we observed that L-theanine improved depressive-like behaviors.
Our findings indicated that it boosted levels of key neurotransmitters—serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine—in certain brain regions. This suggests that L-theanine could have potential antidepressant effects, possibly by interacting with these neurotransmitters in brain areas associated with mood regulation.

Nrf2 regulates iron-dependent hippocampal synapses and functional connectivity damage in depression.
We explored how iron levels impact depression and hippocampal health. By studying mice under chronic mild stress and using an iron chelator, we observed that excessive iron leads to synaptic damage in the brain. This harmful effect was linked to the downregulation of crucial proteins involved in brain health.
Interestingly, when we activated a protein called Nrf2, we saw improvements in iron balance and a reduction in depression symptoms. Our findings suggest that focusing on Nrf2 and managing iron levels could be key in developing better treatments for depression.

Interestingly, when we activated a protein called Nrf2, we saw improvements in iron balance and a reduction in depression symptoms. Our findings suggest that focusing on Nrf2 and managing iron levels could be key in developing better treatments for depression.

Iron bisglycinate is the best form for absorption. After months of use due to low ferritin levels, I haven't yet retested my blood but did notice an initial excitement followed by stability in mood. My menstrual blood loss has decreased. A reasonable psychiatrist will check ferritin levels in those with depression, as low ferritin can be a contributing factor.

Antidepressive effects observed in study
Phosphatidylserine: an antidepressive or a cognitive enhancer?
We investigated whether phosphatidylserine (BC-PS) could effectively treat depression and enhance cognitive function. In our study, rats took BC-PS in various doses and were compared to a control group. We observed that BC-PS significantly reduced how long the rats remained immobile in a stress test, suggesting an antidepressive effect.
However, when it came to improving memory in different maze tasks, BC-PS showed no significant benefits compared to the control group. This indicates that while BC-PS may help with depression, it doesn't appear to boost cognitive abilities.

Vitamin B6 effectively battles depression
Vitamin B6 Antidepressant Effects Are Comparable to Common Antidepressant Drugs in Bacillus-Calmette-Guerin Induced Depression Model in Mice.
We explored the potential of vitamin B6 in treating depression, particularly how it compares to commonly used antidepressants. In our experiment, male mice were given a single dose of Bacillus-Calmette-Guerin (BCG) to induce depressive-like behaviors. Following this, we administered vitamin B6 alongside popular antidepressants such as fluoxetine, imipramine, and venlafaxine, to see how effectively each treatment mitigated symptoms over 14 days.
Our findings highlighted that vitamin B6 was effective in alleviating depression in the mice, just like the other antidepressant medications. The animals displayed significant improvements in both despair and anhedonia—key indicators of depression. Specifically, we noticed a decrease in immobility time during a forced swim test, indicating reduced despair. Plus, the latency to feed and food consumption improved significantly, showing that vitamin B6 helped counteract the depressive behaviors caused by BCG.
Overall, our research suggests that vitamin B6 can be a powerful ally in preventing depression, similar in effectiveness to some existing antidepressant drugs. We believe this opens the door for further clinical research on vitamin B6 as a potential treatment, especially for those at high risk for depression.

Q10 alleviates post-stroke depression
Chronic treatment with coenzyme Q10 mitigates the behavioral dysfunction of global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.
We explored the effects of Coenzyme Q10 (Q10) on depression and cognitive deficits following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats. In this study, we induced brain injury by blocking blood flow to both carotid arteries for 20 minutes. The rats then received Q10 at a dose of 200 mg/kg for six weeks.
The results illustrated that the I/R injury led to increased anxiety and depressive behaviors in the animals, alongside a noticeable decline in cognitive performance. Moreover, we found that the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were reduced after the stroke.
Upon treating with Q10, we observed significant improvements. The treatment not only decreased brain swelling but also lessened anxiety and depressive-like symptoms. Cognitive impairments improved as well, with increased BDNF levels and SOD activity in the brain tissues of the animals receiving Q10.
Ultimately, this study points to the potential benefits of Q10 supplementation in mitigating symptoms of depression and cognitive issues after a stroke.

Vitamin D3 improves depressive symptoms
Effects of vitamin D supplementation on depression and some selected pro-inflammatory biomarkers: a double-blind randomized clinical trial.
We conducted a double-blind randomized clinical trial to explore the effects of vitamin D3 supplementation on depression. Our study involved 56 adults with mild to moderate depression, who were assigned to either a vitamin D group or a placebo group. Over the course of eight weeks, the vitamin D group received a high dose of 50,000 IU cholecalciferol every two weeks, while the control group received a placebo.
After the treatment period, we observed that the participants who received the vitamin D3 experienced a significant reduction in depression severity, as measured by the Beck Depression Inventory-II. Interestingly, this improvement in mood occurred independently of any changes in inflammatory biomarkers like IL-1β, IL-6, and hs-CRP, which we also assessed during the study.
This indicates that while vitamin D supplementation may positively impact depressive symptoms, its effects are not directly linked to the inflammatory markers we evaluated. Our findings suggest that vitamin D3 could be a helpful addition to depression treatment strategies, particularly in individuals with low vitamin D levels.

DHA shows potential for depression
The Efficacy of Omega-3 Fatty Acids as the Monotherapy for Depression: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study.
We conducted a study to find out whether docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid, could effectively help those dealing with major depressive disorder (MDD). Over the course of 12 weeks, 60 participants were involved in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. They were divided into two groups: one received 3.2 grams of DHA daily, while the other group was given an equivalent amount of soybean oil as a placebo.
Throughout the study, we measured depression levels using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD). Our results were intriguing—those taking the DHA showed significant improvements in their depression scores compared to the placebo group by weeks 4, 6, 8, and 12. While we noted that 26.7% of participants receiving DHA achieved remission by week 12, this was not statistically significant in comparison to the placebo group.
Overall, our findings support the idea that DHA may serve as a promising alternative treatment for individuals suffering from MDD. Although the results are encouraging, we recognize the need for further research to confirm these benefits conclusively.

I previously took a different brand last winter but found similar strains. This product particularly enhanced my mood, which was crucial given my seasonal depression. I noticed substantial improvement in my feelings, likely due to the probiotic strains used, rather than just an ingredient like Ash, which I consumed separately. Unlike my previous product, this one doesn't compromise mood support. It even contains acacia fibre, beneficial for gut health, and I plan to repurchase.

We conducted a study to see if omega-3 fatty acids could help people with major depressive disorder as a standalone treatment. Over 12 weeks, 60 participants took either omega-3 supplements or a placebo.
Results showed that those taking omega-3 had lower depression scores at various points throughout the study. While there were hints of improved outcomes in terms of remission and response rates, these weren't statistically significant.
Overall, omega-3 fatty acids could be a promising alternative, but further research is necessary to confirm their effectiveness.

Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for cell membranes and improve nutrition and metabolism, especially in heart and brain cells. I take mine daily with lecithin, and although these capsules are large, they’re easy to swallow. I've incorporated this Omega-3 into my routine and feel more energetic and less likely to experience depression.

Folate as adjunct therapy to SSRI/SNRI for major depressive disorder: Systematic review & meta-analysis.
We examined the effects of folic acid as an add-on treatment for major depression alongside traditional medications like SSRIs and SNRIs. After reviewing six randomized control trials, we found that patients receiving folic acid showed better progress.
Specifically, their depression scores improved significantly, with higher response and remission rates as well. This suggests that adding folic acid might enhance the benefits of standard depression therapies, giving hope to those looking for more effective treatment options.

Magnesium intake reduces depression risk
Dietary Magnesium Intake in Relation to Depression in Adults: A GRADE-Assessed Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-analysis of Epidemiologic Studies.
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis exploring how dietary magnesium (Mg) intake connects with depression among adults. By reviewing data from over 63,000 individuals, we found that those with the highest magnesium intake had a 34% lower chance of experiencing depression compared to those with the lowest intake.
Furthermore, our analysis indicated that every increase of 100 mg per day in magnesium intake was linked to a 7% reduced risk of depression. These findings suggest that increasing dietary magnesium could play a valuable role in lowering depression risk.

Vitamin D supports depression management
Effects of cholecalciferol supplementation on depressive symptoms, C-peptide, serotonin, and neurotrophin-3 in type 2 diabetes mellitus: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
Putranto R, Setiati S, Nasrun MW, Witjaksono F, Immanuel S, et al. Effects of cholecalciferol supplementation on depressive symptoms, C-peptide, serotonin, and neurotrophin-3 in type 2 diabetes mellitus: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Narra J. 2024;4:e1342. doi:10.52225/narra.v4i3.1342
We conducted a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to explore how cholecalciferol, a form of vitamin D, influences depressive symptoms in individuals suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This clinical study lasted for 12 weeks and involved participants who were either given a daily dose of 4000 IU of cholecalciferol or a placebo.
Throughout the study, we measured various factors, including the participants’ depression levels using the Beck Depression Inventory-II, as well as important biological markers like C-peptide, serotonin, and neurotrophin-3.
Our findings showed a significant reduction in depression scores among those taking cholecalciferol compared to the placebo group. Additionally, we observed a notable increase in C-peptide levels, which may indicate some metabolic benefits, although no significant changes were found in serotonin and neurotrophin-3 levels.
Ultimately, while cholecalciferol appears to alleviate mild to moderate depressive symptoms in T2DM patients through improved C-peptide levels, its impact on serotonin and neurotrophin-3 remains unclear. This highlights vitamin D as a potentially helpful option for managing depression alongside diabetes.

Vitamin C intake linked to depression
Association of dietary vitamin C intake with depression in adults: A cross-sectional study of NHANES from 2005 to 2020.
This study aimed to understand how dietary vitamin C affects depression in adults. By analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning from 2005 to 2020, we focused on the relationship between vitamin C intake and depression levels among 38,157 participants.
Our findings revealed that individuals who consumed higher amounts of vitamin C had lower odds of experiencing depression. Specifically, those in the higher intake quartiles showed significantly reduced odds compared to those with the lowest intake. Interestingly, we discovered an L-shaped curve representing the relationship between vitamin C and depression, suggesting that while increased intake was beneficial up to a certain point (around 93.61 mg), higher consumption did not yield additional benefits.
While our results are promising, it's crucial to note that this was a cross-sectional study, meaning we cannot definitively claim that vitamin C intake causes changes in depression. Additionally, other factors might have influenced these associations, which we couldn't fully control for.
Overall, this research provides intriguing evidence of the potential role that dietary vitamin C might play in alleviating depressive symptoms, especially for those consuming lower amounts.

Eicosapentaenoic acid may reduce depression
The Efficacy of Omega-3 Fatty Acids as the Monotherapy for Depression: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study.
We conducted a study to explore the effectiveness of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid, in treating major depressive disorder (MDD). Over the course of 12 weeks, 60 participants suffering from MDD were divided into two groups: one received 3.2 grams of EPA daily, while the other group was given a placebo, which was soybean oil.
Throughout the study, we assessed the severity of depression using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD). What we found was promising. The group taking EPA experienced significantly lower HRSD scores at various checkpoints—specifically at weeks 4, 6, 8, and 12—indicating a reduction in depressive symptoms. Although the rates of remission and response were higher in the EPA group compared to the placebo group, these findings did not achieve statistical significance.
Overall, while EPA shows potential as a treatment for depression, further research is needed to solidify its role. Our findings suggest that it may be an alternative option for MDD patients seeking additional treatment pathways.

Myo-inositol: Depression treatment potential
Cyclitols: From Basic Understanding to Their Association with Neurodegeneration.
We explored the potential of inositol, particularly Myo-inositol (MI), as a treatment option for depression, especially in individuals dealing with neurodegenerative disorders. The literature suggests that MI and its derivatives are vital in various cellular functions, including signal transmission and osmoregulation.
While our focus was primarily on neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's, the interesting twist is how inositol may also help alleviate depressive symptoms. Research indicates that dietary supplementation with MI can have promising effects on mental health, suggesting a connection between inositol levels and mood enhancement.
However, despite the encouraging findings, much remains to be discovered. The relationship between inositol treatment and its effectiveness in treating depression is still being closely examined. Overall, it appears that while inositol shows potential, more comprehensive studies are needed to fully understand its benefits and mechanisms related specifically to depression.

Currently, many doctors regard vitamin D3 as akin to hormones, as its deficiency can lead to severe consequences, including stress and persistent depression. It aids calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium absorption, crucial for bone health. Additionally, it enhances metabolic processes, uplifts mood, alleviates anxiety and neuropsychiatric disorders, and helps with insomnia. Due to limited sunlight throughout the year, my family and I take this vitamin, promoting a tranquil atmosphere at home.

Calcium's role in depression explored
Assessment of the Correlation Between Unipolar and Bipolar Depression, Calcium Levels, Thyroid Function, and Inflammatory Markers: A Pilot Cross-Sectional Study.
We aimed to investigate the connection between calcium levels and depression, specifically comparing unipolar and bipolar disorders. In the course of our pilot study, we enrolled 36 patients admitted to the University of Insubria Psychiatric Unit, who completed various psychological assessments to gauge their mental health.
Our findings revealed a noteworthy association between calcium levels and bipolar depression. We observed significant correlations not only between calcium and depressive symptoms, but also with inflammation markers like CRP (C-reactive protein). This indicates a possible relationship where lower calcium levels may relate to more severe symptoms in individuals with bipolar disorder.
While these associations are intriguing, it's important to note that we did not isolate the effects of calcium treatment itself on depressive symptoms. Therefore, while our results push the conversation forward regarding the role of calcium in mental health, they do not establish that calcium treatment is definitively beneficial for those struggling with depression.
Further research is essential to deepen our understanding of how inflammatory markers like calcium may contribute to different forms of depression. Our study highlights a pathway for future exploration into targeted therapeutic strategies that could help in treating these complex mood disorders more effectively.

Folate's role in depression treatment
Folate supplementation as a beneficial add-on treatment in relieving depressive symptoms: A meta-analysis of meta-analyses.
We conducted an umbrella meta-analysis to explore how folate affects depression. By sifting through various studies up to October 2023 from multiple databases like PubMed and Scopus, we wanted to find a clear answer regarding folate supplementation's role in alleviating depressive symptoms.
Our analysis included 11 relevant studies, out of which 8 underwent a quantitative review. The findings were promising: folate supplementation showed a significant reduction in depressive symptoms, with results suggesting an effect size that indicates moderate improvement. Specifically, the standardized mean difference was -0.42, and the weighted mean difference was -3.20, demonstrating a notable benefit with very little variability between studies.
Additionally, we found that those with low folate levels had a 35% higher chance of experiencing depression compared to their counterparts with adequate levels. This suggests a strong link between folate insufficiency and depressive symptoms.
Overall, our findings support the idea that folate supplementation could be an effective adjunct treatment when combined with standard depression therapies, providing individuals with another tool to manage their mental health.

Excellent Omega from a reliable manufacturer. I regularly take omega acids, believing they are essential for the body, influencing almost all organs and systems. Due to natural foods, we do not receive sufficient amounts. This complex includes Omega from both animal and vegetable sources. Although the manufacturer recommends three capsules a day, I take two. My health and mood have improved significantly; I no longer experience the winter depression that used to trouble me. Moreover, I find comfort in knowing this supplement aids my cardiovascular health.
Enhances overall functioning
Most Useful Review
Omega-3-6-9 is crucial for proper body function. Thanks to fish oil, it increases blood vessel elasticity, reduces the risk of heart attacks, and supports joint health. It also improves the central nervous system and brain functions, slows the aging process, and enhances mood, alleviating depression, irritability, and fatigue.

It effectively combats spring depression. I purchased it for a 60-year-old man with diabetes. After just a week of use, there was already a noticeable improvement; he found it easy to get up in the mornings and didn't feel the urge to sleep by 6 p.m. I was very pleased with the results.
Stabilises mood
Most Useful Review
Multivit has a stabilising effect on insomnia, depression, autonomic disorders, and other conditions, such as during menopause or old age. The quality ingredients are natural, relieving excess stress, stimulating brain function, improving concentration, increasing performance, and normalising sleep and mood. The capsules are of medium size. GABA, a neurotransmitter of the central nervous system, enhances sleep quality, with the greatest amount of growth hormone being released at night. This component lessens the effects of stress factors, allowing for deeper and more effective sleep. The dosage is ideal.

Most Useful Review
With the onset of autumn, I frequently encounter the issue of dry skin and, regrettably, frazzled hair. This time, I also endured significant stress and depression, which certainly did not improve my gloomy state. I noticed an alarming amount of hair on my comb, enough to almost craft a wig. I purchased this complex from Solgar, which includes vitamin D and omega 3, and addressed my concerns. I felt the effects almost instantly; my hair seems stronger. I shall continue to monitor the condition of both my hair and skin.
