We analyzed the use of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) as a potential treatment for fibromyalgia, a condition known for causing widespread pain and fatigue. Through our review of existing studies, which included 483 patients across various conditions, we delved into the specific effects of CoQ10 on fibromyalgia symptoms.
The findings were promising: many patients reported significant improvements in key areas such as pain levels, fatigue, sleep quality, tender point counts, and even mood disorders. They also showed better scores on the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), indicating an overall enhancement in their quality of life.
Importantly, CoQ10 was well tolerated, with only minor side effects reported in two studies. While further research with larger sample sizes and additional rheumatic diseases would be beneficial, the initial evidence suggests that CoQ10 could serve as an effective complementary treatment for those struggling with fibromyalgia.
