Myo-inositol reduces thyroid nodule sizeEvaluation of thyroid nodule characteristics in subclinical hypothyroid patients under a myo-inositol plus selenium treatment. We conducted an observational study to explore how myo-inositol (MI) combined with selenium (Se) impacts patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and associated thyroid nodules (TNs).
Our research involved 642 patients suspected of having hypothyroidism, focusing on a subset with SCH. We divided them into two groups: one that received the MI plus Se treatment for six months and a control group that did not receive any treatment.
Among the received results, we found that the treatment group showed a significant reduction in the size and number of mixed TNs, alongside an improved elasticity score. Remarkably, TSH levels also dropped significantly after treatment, indicating a positive response. In contrast, the control group experienced an increase in TSH levels, highlighting the potential benefits of MI plus Se for managing symptoms of hypothyroidism.
These findings suggest promising avenues for further research, particularly regarding the role of inositol in thyroid health. While we observed substantial benefits in the treated group, we also emphasize the need for more extensive studies to confirm these effects and their mechanisms. Improved concentration Most Useful Review 4 people found this helpful I have hypothyroidism but enjoy coffee in the morning, paired with L-Theanine, which enhances the effect. Caffeine alone causes a sharp energy spike followed by a drop, whereas combining it with L-Theanine results in a smoother, longer-lasting boost in focus and mood. It aids my memory, suppresses appetite, and doesn’t induce drowsiness. Occasionally, I take it with melatonin at night to help me sleep, always on an empty stomach for greater potency. I love it and always keep it stocked! |

Thiamin improves memory in hypothyroidismAmeliorative effects of thiamin on learning behavior and memory dysfunction in a rat model of hypothyroidism: implication of oxidative stress and acetylcholinesterase. Our study focused on how thiamin, also known as Vitamin B1, can help with learning and memory issues caused by hypothyroidism. We designed an experiment using 50 rats, which we treated with propylthiouracil to induce hypothyroidism and then supplemented with varying doses of thiamin. Over a period of seven weeks, we assessed the rats’ abilities to remember and learn through standard tests like the Morris water maze and passive avoidance tasks.
We observed that thiamin significantly improved the ability of hypothyroid rats to recall the location of a hidden platform in the water maze. The rats that received higher doses of thiamin spent less time finding the platform and traveled shorter distances compared to those in the hypothyroid group who did not receive the supplement. Similarly, in the passive avoidance test, rats treated with thiamin demonstrated longer delays before entering a dark chamber, indicating improved memory retention.
Additionally, thiamin showed promise in reducing oxidative stress and decreasing acetylcholinesterase activity in the brain. This suggests that thiamin may help to rebalance certain chemicals in the brain, contributing to better memory function. Overall, our findings support the potential benefits of thiamin for addressing learning and memory deficits in cases of hypothyroidism, primarily by improving oxidative status and cholinergic function. Eliminated fatigue Most Useful Review 3 people found this helpful My digestive issues have vanished, and my pancreas is functioning well. I no longer experience drowsiness or constant fatigue. Calcium levels in hypothyroidismInvestigating salivary concentration of calcium ion in hypothyroidism. We aimed to understand how calcium levels in saliva are affected in individuals with hypothyroidism. As one of the most common thyroid disorders, hypothyroidism can lead to various oral health issues, including a higher likelihood of dental caries and periodontal disease.
Our study measured the salivary calcium levels in patients diagnosed with hypothyroidism and found that these levels were significantly lower compared to healthy individuals. It's important to note, however, that we did not find any meaningful connections between the salivary calcium concentrations and the levels of thyroid hormones (TSH and T4) in the blood.
While a decrease in salivary calcium might explain the increased dental problems in hypothyroidism patients, the study did not explore any potential benefits of calcium treatment for this condition. Thus, it remains unclear whether calcium supplementation could effectively improve the overall health outcomes associated with hypothyroidism. Excellent product Most Useful Review An excellent product for hypothyroidism. It is unfortunate that I can't purchase it any longer. |

Low-dose biotin effects minimalThe clinical significance of low dose biotin supplements (<300μg/day) in the treatment of patients with hypothyroidism: crucial or overestimated? We set out to investigate how low-dose biotin supplements, specifically those containing less than 300μg per day, might affect thyroid hormone levels in patients with hypothyroidism. Our approach included a detailed evaluation of 57 patients who were receiving thyroxine and also taking biotin supplements for a period ranging from 10 to 60 days.
Throughout the study, we measured the levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free T4 (FT4) while the patients were on biotin and again 10 days after they stopped taking the supplement. As a control, we compared these findings to those of 31 age-matched individuals who were also being treated for hypothyroidism but were not using biotin.
Our analysis suggests that any changes observed in thyroid hormone profiles due to low-dose biotin supplementation are not clinically significant. In most cases, these changes do not warrant any adjustments to the patient's thyroid medication.
Overall, while our findings contribute to understanding the relationship between biotin and thyroid hormone levels, it appears that low-dose biotin may not play a crucial role in the treatment of hypothyroidism. Larger, more comprehensive studies would be beneficial to explore this phenomenon further. Iodine supplementation restores thyroid functionIodine Deficiency Hypothyroidism Among Children in the United States - 21st Century Resurgence? We looked into the growing concern of iodine deficiency hypothyroidism among children in the United States. This condition, which can lead to cognitive and physical impairments, was thought to be largely eliminated thanks to universal salt iodization started in the 1920s. However, recent trends suggest that iodine deficiency could be reappearing due to increased use of noniodized salts, lower iodine levels in dairy, and dietary restrictions like veganism or food allergies.
Over an 18-month period, we documented a series of cases where three children were diagnosed with iodine deficiency hypothyroidism despite having no underlying thyroid dysfunction. Their clinical presentations varied significantly—some had large goiters while others showed mild or no goiter at all. The results of their biochemical tests also highlighted a range of thyroid-stimulating hormone elevations.
Importantly, all patients returned to normal thyroid function following iodine supplementation. We propose that measuring spot urine iodine levels alongside elevated serum thyroglobulin could serve as a simpler and effective diagnostic approach, moving away from the more complex 24-hour urinary iodine tests. Our findings shine a light on the necessity of addressing iodine deficiency in today’s dietary landscape. Reduced thirst feelings Most Useful Review 43 people found this helpful I found this iodine supplement amazing as it contains calcium iodide rather than kelp, which can vary in iodine content. Since I have hypothyroidism, I often experienced dehydration despite drinking enough water, which left me feeling thirsty. Vitamin B6 aids hypothyroid symptomsSympathetic stimulation and hypertension in the pyridoxine-deficient adult rat. We explored the effects of vitamin B6, specifically pyridoxine, on hypothyroidism through a study involving adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. These rats were placed on a pyridoxine-deficient diet for 8 weeks, during which they developed significant hypertension compared to those that received adequate pyridoxine.
Upon analyzing the results, we discovered that the hypothalamic levels of important substances like pyridoxal phosphate, serotonin, and gamma-aminobutyric acid were notably lower in the pyridoxine-deficient rats. This deficiency was linked to increased sympathetic activity, contributing to the observed hypertension.
The exciting part came when we treated the pyridoxine-deficient rats with a single dose of pyridoxine. Within 24 hours, we saw a remarkable improvement—their blood pressure returned to normal, and their hypothalamic levels of serotonin and gamma-aminobutyric acid rebounded as well. Additionally, levels of norepinephrine and epinephrine returned to normal, indicating a restoration of balance within their systems.
Ultimately, our findings suggest a strong association between vitamin B6 deficiency and hypothalamic dysfunction, highlighting vitamin B6's potential role in alleviating related conditions like hypertension and hypothyroidism. Choline aids offspring in hypothyroidismThe effects of choline supplementation in mothers with hypothyroidism on the alteration of cognitive-behavioral, long-term potentiation, morphology, and apoptosis in the hippocampus of pre-pubertal offspring rats. We explored the impact of choline supplementation on the cognitive development of offspring from mothers with hypothyroidism. The study involved inducing hypothyroidism in mother rats during pregnancy and early postnatal life by adding a substance to their drinking water. To assess the potential benefits of choline, the mothers received this supplement via gavage from the start of pregnancy until their pups were 21 days old.
After administering the treatments, we tested the offspring’s cognitive abilities using methods like the Morris water maze, which measures spatial learning and memory. We also looked at long-term potentiation (LTP)—a key process related to learning—along with examining brain structures for any morphological changes or signs of cell death.
Our findings revealed that the hypothyroid condition negatively impacted both learning and memory, alongside reducing LTP. However, choline treatment appeared to reverse some of these deficits, enhancing the cognitive functions in the offspring.
While they showed improvements, it’s important to note that choline did not significantly reduce apoptosis in the hypothyroid group. Overall, our results suggest that choline can be beneficial in mitigating some cognitive impairments caused by maternal hypothyroidism, yet it does not address all the cellular challenges faced by the offspring. Vitamin C may lower hypothyroidism riskAssociation between total vitamin C intake and hypothyroidism among Hashimoto thyroiditis: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2007-2012. We set out to examine how total vitamin C intake might influence hypothyroidism in individuals with Hashimoto thyroiditis, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 2007 and 2012. Our study utilized multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline analyses to uncover possible associations.
What we found was quite intriguing. There was a clear negative linear relationship between total vitamin C intake and hypothyroidism. Specifically, participants who consumed higher amounts of vitamin C had a significantly lower likelihood of developing hypothyroidism. Those in the top quartile of vitamin C intake were about 60% less likely to have hypothyroidism compared to those in the lowest quartile.
This pattern remained consistent across different age groups and sexes, further emphasizing the potential benefits of vitamin C for individuals with Hashimoto's. Our findings suggest that increasing vitamin C intake may be a simple and effective strategy for reducing the risk of hypothyroidism in those affected. The data indicates that consuming between 4.57 and 1258.9 mg/day of vitamin C could be beneficial.
Overall, our research adds to the understanding of how antioxidants like vitamin C can play a role in thyroid health, encouraging us to consider dietary sources of this vital vitamin for those managing Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Significant improvement Most Useful Review Excellent! The endocrinologist recommended it to me. I have hypothyroidism. My previous endocrinologists merely advised taking Eutirox, which was just okay. However, my new endocrinologist provided an in-depth explanation of my condition and suggested taking Eutirox with pure vitamin C to maximise its effectiveness (contrary to the recommendation of orange juice from elsewhere). Consequently, I've found that Eutirox has a more profound impact, and I'm experiencing a much better improvement in my condition. It doesn’t cause any side effects, is easy to take, and has no flavour. A success!!! |

Vitamin D3 reduces thyroid autoimmunityA Prospective Study to Evaluate the Possible Role of Cholecalciferol Supplementation on Autoimmunity in Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. We explored the potential effects of vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, on individuals diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, a common form of hypothyroidism characterized by autoimmune responses that damage thyroid cells. Our study was a carefully structured clinical trial conducted over one year, which included 100 patients suffering from both Hashimoto's thyroiditis and vitamin D deficiency.
Divided into two groups, one received vitamin D3 supplements while the other was given a placebo. After eight weeks, we measured the levels of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies, which indicate autoimmune activity against the thyroid.
Our findings revealed a significant reduction in these antibody levels among patients who received vitamin D3, showcasing a 30.5% decrease compared to just a 16.5% decrease in the placebo group. This suggests that vitamin D3 supplementation may play a beneficial role in managing the autoimmune activity associated with hypothyroidism.
Overall, our research shows that addressing vitamin D deficiency might be an effective strategy to help manage Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which could encourage discussion about incorporating vitamin D as part of treatment plans for patients. Further research will be necessary to confirm these findings and explore the long-term benefits of vitamin D supplementation. Eicosapentaenoic acid supports hypothyroidismEffect of eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester on hypothyroid function. We aimed to investigate how eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester, a form of omega-3 fatty acid derived from fish oil, influences thyroid function in patients with hypothyroidism. Interestingly, while it has generally been observed that plasma free fatty acid (FFA) levels remain normal in hypothyroid individuals, our findings indicated that some patients exhibited elevated FFA concentrations. This was compelling, as those with higher FFA levels showed milder symptoms of thyroid dysfunction compared to others with lower levels.
To delve deeper, we tested the effects of eicosapentaenoic acid in an animal model using hypothyroid rats. By administering eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester to these rats, we observed that it effectively inhibited the decline of thyroid hormone levels caused by a substance called MMI. Additionally, we noted that it positively influenced the structure of the thyroid follicles in these rats.
Our study suggests that eicosapentaenoic acid may not only support thyroid function but could also have potential benefits for managing conditions related to hypothyroidism. This opens up exciting possibilities for further research into natural treatments for thyroid health. Omega-3 benefits in hypothyroidismThe effect of omega-3 on cognition in hypothyroid adult male rats. We set out to explore how hypothyroidism affects cognitive functions in adult male rats and whether omega-3 supplementation could help. In our study, we divided thirty rats into three groups: a control group, one with induced hypothyroidism, and another that received omega-3 treatment.
The findings revealed that the rats with hypothyroidism faced significant challenges with memory tasks, such as recalling and recognizing objects and navigating mazes. Notably, their brain structure showed damage, including vacuolar degeneration and distorted brain cells.
Interestingly, the hypothyroid rats also had decreased levels of antioxidants, serotonin, and GABA in their brains, all of which are crucial for healthy mental functions. However, when we supplemented the hypothyroid rats with omega-3, we observed a remarkable reversal in their memory deficits. The omega-3-treated rats showed improved cognitive performance, increased antioxidant levels, and reduced brain damage, alongside a decrease in a particular protein associated with cellular stress.
Our findings suggest that omega-3 can serve as a protective agent against cognitive impairment linked to hypothyroidism. It points towards a potential therapeutic option for enhancing brain health in individuals facing this condition. Improved well-being Most Useful Review Chewable tablets are delightful! Omega-3 aids hypothyroid cognitionThe effect of omega-3 on cognition in hypothyroid adult male rats. We set out to investigate how hypothyroidism affects cognitive function and whether omega-3 could provide a helpful boost in adult male rats. The study involved thirty rats, split into three groups: one as a control, another experiencing hypothyroidism, and the last group receiving omega-3 treatment.
The findings were quite striking. Rats with induced hypothyroidism showed significant memory problems, including difficulties in spatial learning and retention in various tests. These deficits were accompanied by lower levels of important brain chemicals and noticeable structural damage in the hippocampus, a key area for memory.
However, when we provided omega-3 supplements to one group, there was a remarkable turnaround. Those rats not only saw improvements in their memory but also regained some brain health. Omega-3 helped boost antioxidant levels, lessen structural issues in the brain, and reduce the expression of a protein linked to these damages.
All in all, our research suggests that omega-3 may serve as a protective ally against the cognitive challenges posed by hypothyroidism. This offers an exciting avenue for potential treatments that could benefit not just rats but perhaps humans facing similar hormonal challenges. Folic Acid Improves Cognitive FunctionFolic acid attenuated learning and memory impairment via inhibition of oxidative damage and acetylcholinesterase activity in hypothyroid rats. We explored how folic acid (FA) affects cognitive decline linked to hypothyroidism in a rat model. Over seven weeks, rats received PTU to induce hypothyroidism and were given varying doses of FA.
The results were promising, showing that FA improved memory and learning in tested tasks. The higher the FA dose, the better the outcomes, with reduced cognitive decline and changes in brain enzyme activity.
This suggests that folic acid may offer protective benefits against cognitive issues related to hypothyroidism, primarily by managing oxidative stress. Highly absorbable Most Useful Review Highly absorbable and well tolerated, I am taking this supplement following a vitamin B9 deficiency linked to my hypothyroidism. Methylfolate is the active form of folic acid, directly assimilated by the body and crossing the blood-brain barrier. This product is of good quality and easy to take. |

DHA promotes brain development in hypothyroidismAnti-apoptotic role of omega-3-fatty acids in developing brain: perinatal hypothyroid rat cerebellum as apoptotic model. We explored the effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid, in a study designed to understand its role in overcoming hypothyroidism-induced neuronal apoptosis, especially during crucial cerebellar development. Our research involved supplementing pregnant and lactating rats with a mixture of DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) while inducing hypothyroidism using methimazole.
By examining the cerebellum of pups at postnatal day 16, we observed that DHA supplementation significantly curbed DNA fragmentation and reduced caspase-3 activation, both markers of cell death. This protective effect seemed linked to DHA's ability to lower levels of pro-apoptotic proteins like Bax, which typically rise when thyroid hormones are deficient.
Furthermore, we found that omega-3 fatty acids boosted levels of protective proteins like Bcl-2 and Bcl-x(L), which are usually suppressed in hypothyroid conditions. DHA also helped restore important signaling pathways impacted by hypothyroidism, such as phospho-AKT, phospho-ERK, and phospho-JNK, without affecting myelin basic protein levels, which are responsive to thyroid hormones.
Overall, our findings suggest that omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, have a significant anti-apoptotic role in the developing brain during periods of thyroid hormone deficiency. Optimises thyroid function Most Useful Review 7 people found this helpful Ashwagandha is renowned for stimulating the thyroid gland and promoting its optimal function, which is beneficial for those with hypothyroidism. Selenium benefits Hashimoto's patientsSelenium Supplementation in Patients with Hashimoto Thyroiditis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials. We explored the effects of selenium supplementation in patients suffering from Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT), a leading cause of hypothyroidism. By analyzing multiple randomized controlled trials, we aimed to see how selenium might impact thyroid function, particularly focusing on thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and thyroid antibodies.
Our analysis included results from 35 studies, where we observed that selenium supplementation led to a notable decrease in TSH levels among patients not undergoing thyroid hormone replacement therapy. This suggests that selenium may help manage thyroid function in specific populations.
Additionally, we found that selenium also reduced levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and malondialdehyde (MDA), which indicates improved thyroid health and reduced oxidative stress. Interestingly, we observed that these benefits occurred irrespective of whether patients were receiving thyroid hormone therapy.
However, we did not find significant changes in other thyroid hormones or immune markers, indicating that while selenium can be effective in some areas, its benefits may not extend across all measures of thyroid health. Overall, our findings support the safe use of selenium in lowering TSH and certain antibodies in HT patients not on hormone therapy. Enhanced thyroid function Most Useful Review 36 people found this helpful One of the best options available, this version of selenium has a good reputation. The round tablets, covered with a thin soluble film, are easy to break in half. When initially opened, they have a typical supplement smell that fades quickly. The 100 mg dosage is quite convenient: I take two, while my husband takes one. For my child with ARVI, it offers additional support. Selenium is crucial for thyroid function and is essential for managing hypothyroidism, particularly when combined with zinc, iodine, and vitamins D3. This combination enhances strength, energy, and mood. Selenium also aids in converting the hormone T4 to T3, which is vital for proper health. |

Levothyroxine improves Hashimoto outcomesLevothyroxine sodium tablets reversed Hashimoto thyroiditis-induced kidney injury, muscle injury, and lipid metabolism disorder: A case report and literature review. We explored the impact of levothyroxine sodium tablets on individuals suffering from hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on its effectiveness for those with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). This common condition can lead to a range of complications, including serious kidney and muscle injuries, as well as issues with cholesterol and other lipids.
In our examination, we described a specific case involving a 52-year-old woman diagnosed with HT. She faced several health challenges, such as kidney and muscle injuries alongside abnormalities in her lipid profiles. After beginning treatment with levothyroxine, we closely monitored her progress through regular assessments of serum creatinine, creatine kinase, and various cholesterol levels.
Over a two-month treatment period, we observed promising results. The patient experienced significant improvements, with her creatine kinase levels returning to normal. Although her serum creatinine level remained slightly elevated, her kidney function showed restoration, and other lipid levels improved significantly. By alleviating these complications, levothyroxine helped address many of her HT-related symptoms, highlighting its benefits in treating severe hypothyroidism manifestations. Copper supplementation aids hypothyroidismReversal of physiological deficits caused by diminished levels of peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase by dietary copper. The study focused on understanding how dietary copper affects physiological issues tied to reduced levels of peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase (PAM), especially regarding hypothyroidism.
We evaluated the impact of PAM deficiencies in mice and found that those with reduced PAM levels struggled with thyroid regulation and body temperature, particularly when they were hypothyroid due to dietary restrictions. Interestingly, while these mice showed normal hormone response to cold, they couldn't maintain their body temperature effectively as compared to their healthy counterparts in colder environments.
However, when we introduced additional dietary copper, these PAM-deficient mice were able to stabilize their body temperature just as effectively as the normal mice. It appeared that copper supplementation helped restore some of the physiological functions that were impaired by low PAM levels.
Overall, our findings indicate that low dietary copper might exacerbate the challenges faced by those with PAM deficiencies, suggesting that copper intake could be an important factor in managing related hypothyroidism symptoms.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine affects hypothyroidismAcetyl-L-carnitine increases cytochrome oxidase subunit I mRNA content in hypothyroid rat liver. We examined how acetyl-L-carnitine influences hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on its impact on liver mitochondria. In our study, we measured the amount of messenger RNA for cytochrome oxidase subunit I in the livers of hypothyroid rats.
After treating the rats with acetyl-L-carnitine, we observed a significant increase in the mRNA levels just three hours post-treatment. This improvement in gene expression suggests that acetyl-L-carnitine may promote mitochondrial function even in altered metabolic states.
Interestingly, even rats that were pre-treated with T3, a thyroid hormone, showed similar positive effects when administered acetyl-L-carnitine. These findings lend further support to the idea that acetyl-L-carnitine can stimulate important processes in mitochondria, especially under conditions like hypothyroidism. Feeling better Most Useful Review I started taking this on my endocrinologist's advice for hypothyroidism, and I feel significantly better now. |
Life Extension, Vitamin D3 with Sea-Iodine, 125 mcg (5,000 IU), 60 Capsules
Increased energy levels Most Useful Review 14 people found this helpful I switched to a simpler iodine with vitamin K and appreciate the capsule size, which is easy to swallow. The vegetable iodine dosage is high, but not fully absorbed due to my hypothyroidism. My endocrinologist approved its use, and I take it alongside selenium for better absorption. After three months, I feel increased energy and recommend it. |

Vitamin D improves thyroid functionEffects of vitamin D supplementation on autoantibodies and thyroid function in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis: A systematic review and meta-analysis. We conducted a thorough exploration of how vitamin D supplementation can affect hypothyroidism, particularly in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). Our findings draw from a meta-analysis of twelve randomized controlled trials, involving a total of 862 participants. These studies compared the effects of vitamin D against placebo or no treatment, focusing on various thyroid function indicators and autoantibodies.
The results were promising. We found that vitamin D supplementation significantly reduced the levels of anti-thyroid antibodies, specifically thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-Ab) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TG-Ab). Additionally, it appeared to enhance thyroid function by lowering thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and increasing free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) levels.
Notably, we observed that active forms of vitamin D, like calcitriol, were more effective in reducing TPO-Ab compared to the more common D2 and D3 forms. We also noted that longer treatment durations, particularly those exceeding 12 weeks, led to greater improvements in thyroid hormone levels and antibody reductions.
Overall, our study suggests that vitamin D may play a beneficial role in managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, potentially helping to modulate immune responses and improve thyroid function. Improved symptoms Most Useful Review An excellent supplement for addressing deficiencies; it has greatly improved my symptoms related to Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. The quality is good, with proper absorption, and it's flavourless. Overall, I have noticed many benefits. |

Ginkgo biloba supports hypothyroidism treatmentTreatment with Ginkgo biloba supplement modulates oxidative disturbances, inflammation and vascular functions in oxygen deprived hypothyroid mice: Involvement of endothelin-1/NO signaling pathways. We investigated how Ginkgo biloba could help balance some of the challenges faced by hypothyroid mice under conditions of oxygen deprivation. In our study, we divided male Swiss mice into five groups, where some received Ginkgo biloba, while others were treated with Levothyroxine or were left untreated as controls.
We observed that Ginkgo biloba didn’t boost thyroid hormone levels, but it helped keep TSH levels steady. After treatment, the mice showed lower blood glucose, decreased oxidative stress, and inflammation, indicating a positive shift in their biochemical balance. This suggests Ginkgo biloba may reduce harmful effects related to hypoxia and hypothyroidism.
Importantly, we noticed Ginkgo biloba affected the signaling pathways involving endothelin-1 and nitric oxide in the aorta, which are crucial for vascular health. Overall, Ginkgo biloba appears to act as a therapeutic candidate, potentially offering a natural way to support cardiovascular function in hypothyroid conditions affected by low oxygen levels.
Softened dry skin Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful I absolutely love this omega! After just a few days of taking it, the difference in my skin and nails is evident. My elbows, often very dry due to hypothyroidism, feel smoother and softer after using this omega. We take it as a family, and I appreciate that one capsule contains 1000 mg of essential fatty acids. The capsule is large but easy to swallow. |

ALA reduces oxidative stressα-Lipoic Acid Ameliorates The Changes in Prooxidant-Antioxidant Balance in Liver and Brain Tissues of Propylthiouracil-Induced Hypothyroid Rats. We explored the effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on oxidative stress in the body. In a controlled experiment, rats were given propylthiouracil (PTU) to induce hypothyroidism, followed by treatment with ALA and thyroxine (T4) to assess the outcomes over a 10-week period.
Our findings revealed increased oxidative stress markers, particularly in the brain, in hypothyroid rats. ALA treatment alone significantly reduced these markers, suggesting it can help counteract oxidative damage linked to hypothyroidism. Moreover, ALA also improved conditions arising from T4 therapy.
Overall, our study indicates that ALA may offer a valuable approach to manage oxidative stress in thyroid dysfunctions, both on its own and when combined with traditional hormone replacement therapies. Weight loss support Most Useful Review 7 people found this helpful I have autoimmune thyroiditis, which has led to insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. Alpha lipoic acid has aided my weight loss, as many with AIT, like myself, face challenges in controlling their weight. Recommended by my doctor, I used it to manage insulin resistance. After three months, I lost 9 kg, despite not being strict with my diet and having decreased physical activity. I recommend it to anyone with a similar diagnosis who is struggling with weight loss. |

Brewer's yeast mitigates adrenal atrophyProtective effect of Brewer's yeast on methimazole-induced-adrenal atrophy (a stereological study). We explored the protective role of brewer's yeast in combating the harmful effects of methimazole-induced hypothyroidism. In a study involving 48 rats, we divided them into control and experimental groups to assess the impact of methimazole and brewer's yeast on adrenal glands.
Our findings showed that methimazole led to reduced adrenal size and lower cortisol levels. However, when brewer's yeast was administered alongside methimazole, it significantly lessened these adverse effects, suggesting a natural remedy might help safeguard adrenal health during hypothyroidism treatment. Effective for digestion Most Useful Review 11 people found this helpful I ordered saccharomyces to enhance my gastrointestinal health due to hypothyroidism and AIT, which had left my digestive system quite unbalanced. I faced constant discomfort, bloating, and thrush. Instead of buying numerous expensive enzyme and probiotic preparations, I opted for Boulardi saccharomyces. I took 2 capsules at night, and I've seen remarkable results—within days, the bloating and discomfort dissipated, and my stool normalised. Additionally, after experiencing stomach pain from hormone therapy pills, the discomfort eased within 15 minutes post-saccharomycetes intake. It's a definite favourite, and more affordable than pharmacy alternatives! |

Taurine improves bile acid excretionImproved suppression by dietary taurine of the fecal excretion of bile acids from hypothyroid rats. We examined the impact of taurine, a naturally occurring amino acid, on hypothyroidism induced by thiouracil in rats. The study specifically looked at how dietary taurine influenced hypercholesterolemia, a condition where cholesterol levels are dangerously high.
Our observations revealed that hypothyroid rats experienced a notable increase in overall cholesterol levels and HDL cholesterol. Alongside these changes, we found that the rats excreted significantly fewer bile acids, which are important for digesting fats and regulating cholesterol levels.
Interestingly, taurine did not lead to any reduction in cholesterol levels, which may seem disappointing. However, it did significantly improve the excretion of bile acids. This suggests that while taurine may not tackle hypercholesterolemia head-on, it plays a role in enhancing bile acid output in the context of hypothyroidism.
Overall, our study sheds light on taurine’s selective benefits, underscoring its role in bile acid excretion despite the ongoing hypercholesterolemia in these rats. This highlights the potential therapeutic avenues for managing thyroid-induced cholesterol imbalances through dietary interventions. Increased energy levels Most Useful Review 10 people found this helpful Really Works! I was pleasantly surprised at the effects, feeling a difference by the second day of taking it. Doctor's Best, High Absorption CoQ10 with BioPerine®, 100 mg, 120 Veggie Caps
CoQ10 levels and thyroid health[Circulating levels of CoQ10 in hypo- and hyperthyroidism]. We evaluated the levels of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in patients with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism to understand its role in thyroid health. The study included participants from both groups, as well as a control group without thyroid issues, ensuring that no subjects had other cardiovascular or metabolic diseases that could interfere with the results.
Our findings showed that hypothyroid patients had a higher average level of CoQ10 in their blood compared to those with hyperthyroidism. Specifically, hypothyroid patients showed levels of 0.97 mcg/ml, while hyperthyroid patients had only 0.51 mcg/ml, with the control group at 0.73 mcg/ml. This suggests that patients with hypothyroidism may have a greater prevalence of higher CoQ10 levels.
However, we found that the differences were not enough to clearly separate those with normal thyroid function from those with either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. While there is a noted inverse relationship between CoQ10 levels and certain thyroid hormones, this indicates that CoQ10 alone may not provide significant benefits for those specifically dealing with hypothyroidism. More research—especially longitudinal studies—is needed to see how treatment and therapy could potentially affect CoQ10 levels and overall thyroid health in these patients. Supports thyroid recovery Most Useful Review 2 people found this helpful I have bought this product multiple times for heart health. Vitamin B12 and hypothyroid patientsA Study on Vitamin B12 Levels in Hypothyroid Patients Presenting to a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital. We explored the connection between vitamin B12 deficiency and hypothyroidism through a focused study involving 100 hypothyroid patients. This research took place over a year and aimed to determine how common vitamin B12 deficiency is among these individuals and how it correlates with thyroid antibodies.
Our findings revealed that a significant 68% of the hypothyroid patients were vitamin B12 deficient. Interestingly, a large majority of these deficient patients were female, specifically 73.5%. Additionally, we noted that a high percentage of patients with elevated Anti TPO and Anti Thyroglobulin antibodies also had low vitamin B12 levels.
Although vitamin B12 deficiency was present in a notable portion of the hypothyroid population, we're careful to point out that the study does not state that vitamin B12 supplementation alone can fully alleviate hypothyroid symptoms. However, it suggests that addressing this deficiency could be a valuable addition to current hypothyroid treatments. By recognizing and treating vitamin B12 deficiency, we may improve the overall management of hypothyroid conditions for some patients. Essential for energy Most Useful Review 4 people found this helpful Excellent! Vitamin B12 is indispensable for the body. It boosts haemoglobin, benefits heart muscle, aids in DNA synthesis, and supports energy production. As many of us suffer from anaemia, B12 is vital. Jarrow Formulas, Pantothenic Acid B5, 500 mg, 100 Veggie Caps
Improved well-being Most Useful Review Excellent! 5-HTP reduces TSH in hypothyroidism[Action of 5-hydroxytryptophan on serum thyreostimulin and prolactin in primary hypothyroidism (author's transl)]. We aimed to understand how 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) could impact hypothyroidism, particularly regarding thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. In our study, we observed the effects of 5-HTP on eight patients suffering from primary hypothyroidism who were not receiving treatment.
The results were intriguing; we found that 5-HTP significantly reduced TSH levels in these patients. However, it didn't show the same effect in five healthy individuals, indicating that these changes might be specific to those with hypothyroidism.
It's important to note that despite these changes in TSH levels, other thyroid hormones like T4 and T3 remained stable, and there was no increase in prolactin levels in either group. This leads us to suggest that 5-HTP may have an inhibitory effect on TSH regulation, although we couldn't determine its role concerning prolactin. Thus, while we observed a decrease in TSH levels with 5-HTP treatment in hypothyroid patients, the broader implications and benefits are still not fully defined. Better sleep quality Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful Finally, I sleep and feel refreshed. I had nearly forgotten what restful sleep felt like. With my hypothyroidism, the anticipation of getting enough sleep was often heavy on my mind. L-carnitine lacks significant benefitInterventions to improve symptomatology in patients with hypothyroidism and persistent symptoms: A systematic review. We conducted a systematic search of studies examining the effectiveness of various interventions for patients with persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on the use of L-carnitine. Although we found evidence related to several treatments, including ginger and surgery, the role of L-carnitine remains unclear due to its inclusion in a group of multiple interventions.
Specifically, L-carnitine was assessed in a clinical trial where it was compared to a placebo. However, the findings on its effectiveness were inconsistent when it came to improving symptoms related to hypothyroidism. Many of the studies we reviewed had limitations that included potential bias and variability in results, making it challenging to draw definitive conclusions about L-carnitine's impact on fatigue and quality of life in these patients.
Overall, there is no strong evidence suggesting that L-carnitine provides significant benefits for those suffering from persistent hypothyroidism symptoms. While some interventions showed promise, L-carnitine does not seem to be a game-changer in this context. After just one month of taking these supplements, I noticed a significant improvement. I recommend a three-month intake followed by a six-month break, especially for those with osteoporosis. I personally believe these dietary supplements work wonders for bone and joint issues! Less leg numbness Most Useful Review Works! This is my second large jar. After trying another manufacturer, I returned to this brand. Don't expect miracles; everything functions together with the gastrointestinal tract. My bones and back were aching, and I suffered from numbness in my legs due to hypothyroidism and the hormonal imbalance. Following my first jar, I noticed a significant reduction in leg numbness. The product works in conjunction with other supplements like Dz K2. I recommend it and have stocked up again. Wishing everyone good health! If this was helpful, please give it a thumbs up!❣️ |

Solgar, Gentle Iron®, 25 mg, 90 Vegetable Capsules
Significant improvement Most Useful Review 2 people found this helpful After struggling with anaemia for many years, I finally discovered my hemoglobin was 80 when it should be 120. I had attributed my weakness and hair loss to my mild hypothyroidism. Since taking Solgar iron supplements for 2.5 months, my hemoglobin has risen to 122, which is normal. My overall well-being has greatly improved, and my hair hardly falls out anymore. Although my ferritin levels are still low, I understand that it takes about six months of iron preparation to raise them. I am VERY SATISFIED. Effective for headaches Most Useful Review Taking iron supplements has been effective for raising my ferritin levels. A crucial rule is to avoid consuming dairy products with iron, as they hinder absorption. I ensure to hydrate fully while taking it. I find that my headaches and darkening vision often relate to my hypothyroidism. By sticking to these guidelines, I manage to alleviate these symptoms effectively. |

Citrucel, Methylcellulose Fiber Therapy for Irregularity, 180 Fiber Caplets
Effective treatment Most Useful Review 206 people found this helpful With atopic dermatitis, I find the ideal formula is to take D3 and Omega-3 at breakfast, Vitamin A afterwards, and Vitamin E later. For hypothyroidism, Vitamin A acts as a cofactor for iodine. Given its price and quality, Vitamin A is exceptional. |
