Inactivation of Salmonella enteritidis on shell eggs by coating with phytochemicals.
We investigated how three natural compounds—carvacrol, eugenol, and β-resorcylic acid—could reduce Salmonella enteritidis on shell eggs using pectin and gum arabic coatings.
The study began with eggs inoculated with a significant amount of SE and observed their storage at 4°C over a week. Remarkably, coatings featuring carvacrol and eugenol eliminated SE within just three days.
Although these coatings show great potential for ensuring egg safety, further research is necessary to assess their overall impact on egg quality and sensory characteristics before they can be widely recommended.

Through our experiments, we observed that while Ca-DPA effectively stimulated spore germination, dipicolinic acid alone did not produce the same effect. This indicates that calcium is essential for promoting germination. Moreover, we found that not only calcium salts but also other divalent cations like manganese and magnesium contributed to this process, while zinc did not.
Interestingly, the study revealed that endogenous calcium and magnesium stored within spores were not critical for germination induction. Instead, it was the external calcium and manganese that proved necessary. Overall, our findings suggest that exogenous sources of divalent cations are more significant in triggering spore germination than the spores' internal reserves.

We assessed whether Lactobacillus acidophilus could help reduce symptoms after infection with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) in healthy men. In a carefully designed study, participants were split into groups receiving the probiotic or a placebo. After consuming a controlled diet and receiving a mild ETEC challenge, we observed an increase in gastrointestinal discomfort for both groups. At the end of the study, while there were some differences, they were not significant enough to indicate any real benefit from the probiotic. So, we found that acidophilus supplementation did not help alleviate symptoms related to ETEC infections.

Active Packaging of Immobilized Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Controls Campylobacter jejuni in Raw Chicken Meat.
We set out to explore how zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) could help control the bacteria responsible for food poisoning in raw chicken meat. Our approach involved integrating these nanoparticles into packaging materials to see if they could effectively inactivate Campylobacter jejuni, a common and concerning pathogen in poultry.
Through our experiments, we discovered that immobilizing ZnO NPs in functional pads placed under raw chicken could dramatically reduce bacterial counts. In fact, we saw a reduction from about 4 log CFU to an undetectable level within just three days when storing chicken at 4°C. Notably, we monitored zinc levels in the chicken meat, confirming a safe release of zinc without any migration of nanoparticles onto the food. This means that we can help keep raw chicken safe and fresh without compromising its integrity or quality.
Not only did we find that these functional pads inactivated the harmful bacteria, but we also noted a related increase in lactic acid production, which plays a role in further protecting the meat. Our findings open up new avenues for using zinc in food packaging, offering a way to enhance food safety without directly adding chemicals to the food itself. Overall, this study highlights the potential for nanotechnology to play a significant role in managing foodborne pathogens like Campylobacter in poultry products.

This is it! Zinc is essential! After stopping zinc and switching to a plant-based diet, my hair lost strength and began thinning. I even tried a hair growth product, but one day, after eating lots of oysters, my hair became shiny and firm. I wondered if it was the zinc. When I returned to a plant-based diet, my hair worsened again, but it improved when I ate meat. Zinc deficiency was my issue. 30% useful Omega-3 acids PUFA in one capsule has been taken by my family as our diet could be more varied. We trialled this but found that Now Foods' other products offer better alternatives. We carefully examine the composition when selecting omega-3s, focusing on EPA and DHA. The combined content totals 1000 mg, meaning I need to take three capsules, which isn’t very cost-effective, and there's excessive saturated fat. While many dislike the ethyl esters form, we prefer triglycerides. Thanks to Omega-3, my husband’s health metrics improved, his cholesterol rose, and his atherogenic coefficient normalised. Omega-3 works, and we’ll opt for Oslomega next time due to its superior composition.

The most beloved magnesium! I am currently pregnant and have been prescribed 400 mg of magnesium. Previously, I took Natural Vitality, CALM, but it caused me diarrhoea even with a half dose. I also tried citrate, but that upset my stomach too. My doctor confirmed that these forms aren’t absorbed well by me. The best magnesium for absorption is glycinate/bisglycinate, which I now take as it comes from organic vegetables and seeds. This option has no side effects, and I've forgotten about leg cramps and insomnia. I take 1 capsule twice a day, and they are easy to swallow. I highly recommend this supplement!

Vitamin B6 mitigates food symptoms
The biochemistry of vitamin B6 is basic to the cause of the Chinese restaurant syndrome.
We explored an intriguing connection between vitamin B6 and something called the Chinese Restaurant Syndrome, often linked to the consumption of monosodium L-glutamate (MSG). This study involved a group of 155 students who had not taken extra vitamin B6. By analyzing an enzyme called aspartate transaminase in their blood cells, we identified 27 individuals with notably low levels, which suggested they might have a vitamin B6 deficiency.
Among these 27 participants, we challenged them with glutamate and a placebo, where 12 recognized symptoms associated with the syndrome while 15 did not. Through a double-blind treatment over twelve weeks, we administered pyridoxine (a form of vitamin B6) and a placebo. After completing the treatment, we re-challenged them with glutamate.
We found that those who received pyridoxine showed a significant decrease in symptoms, proving treatment was effective for most of them. Specifically, only 3 of the 12 who received placebo experienced the symptoms again, while 8 of the 9 who had pyridoxine did not react to glutamate. Our results indicate a strong link between vitamin B6 levels and the management of symptoms tied to this syndrome, suggesting that vitamin B6 may play a critical role in enhancing our resilience against certain forms of food-related discomfort.

My endocrinologist recommended I maintain selenium intake due to an increase in antibodies. After several months of taking selenium, these antibodies decreased. In our study, we included microbiota-depleted IL-10 mice that received DESF through their drinking water starting a week ahead of being exposed to the Campylobacter strain known as 81-176. While we did not observe any significant reduction in the levels of the bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, we did identify some noteworthy improvements in the overall health status of the infected mice by the sixth day post-infection.
These findings suggested that DESF treatment seemed to alleviate the disease's impact, manifesting as reduced cell death in the colon, lower numbers of immune cells like neutrophils accumulating in the large intestines, and decreased levels of inflammatory markers, including IFN-γ and MCP-1, in both the intestines and systemically.
Overall, our research illustrates the potential for iron-targeting strategies to positively affect the progression and severity of campylobacteriosis, offering a new outlook for treatment approaches when conventional antibiotic methods are not recommended.

This is the best iron! I battled anaemia and dizziness for ages and suffered from severe constipation with other medications. Our study aimed to explore how a prebiotic called fructooligosaccharide (FOS)-inulin affects chickens' ability to combat food poisoning caused by Salmonella Enteritidis (SE). The results were quite revealing. After treatment with FOS-inulin, we found that the HD11 cells contained significantly fewer viable SE compared to those that were untreated, suggesting that this prebiotic supports macrophage function in eliminating the bacteria. However, it’s worth noting that FOS-inulin did not appear to influence the overall phagocytosis process or the production of nitric oxide, a key player in the immune response.
Additionally, we observed that levels of IL-1β, an important inflammatory cytokine, were significantly reduced in macrophages treated with FOS-inulin. This indicates that FOS-inulin can help modulate the innate immune response, making it potentially beneficial for enhancing the body's defense against foodborne pathogens while also reducing excessive inflammation.

I have been using Acetyl-L-Carnitine for about two months, and I can see its effects. On a calorie deficit for the last three months, I've lost 14 kg, which is remarkable given my history with thyroid issues. GREAT BIOTIN FOR THICK HAIR! The hairdresser suggested I start taking biotin when I mentioned that my hair had changed with age. The capsules are easy to swallow, with no unpleasant tastes or odours. I take one per day with meals, alongside a Silicon complex and Omega-3 and Vitamin D. After around a month, I noticed new hair growth, possibly due to the biotin or all the supplements. While my hair hasn’t dramatically improved, it has become thicker. My nails have also benefited — they feel stronger and grow quickly, which is surprising given how they usually look after shellac removal. I hope my insights assist you in your choices. It works! Buy D-mannose and give it a try! If you suffer from cystitis repeatedly and antibiotics do not help, and E. coli continuously resides in your urine, then try D-mannose. I only take one teaspoon a day, sometimes less, and nothing bothers me. It's a shame that in Russia we are overloaded with antibiotics.

This product is undoubtedly one of the best supplements I’ve tried. I take two tablets 15 minutes before meals, and they have worked wonders. Since receiving my jab, I developed intolerances to various foods. However, since using this supplement with digestive enzymes, most of my symptoms have vanished. Good health! This product significantly helped my recovery during Covid, especially after experiencing severe food poisoning symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting. After starting treatment with this supplement, along with zinc, vitamin C, and D3, my temperature dropped quickly. Overall, my recovery took a week, and I am pleased with the outcome. I noticed minimal allergy symptoms this fall, and my body felt much better than before. Perhaps I'll order a larger package.

In October 2019, my thyroid gland was much smaller than normal, and I was on the verge of hypothyroidism. My TSH levels were slightly above normal, prompting me to incorporate iodine-rich foods. I initially took 150 mcg of iodine, then increased it to 200 mcg with selenium. After intermittent use for a year, my thyroid's size normalised, confirmed by ultrasound in November 2020, and I feel good.

This is the best supplement for insulin resistance! I struggle with insulin resistance, making it difficult to stop eating, even when full. After reading about inositol, I began taking a pill with each meal, and it produced excellent results, significantly reducing my food intake. This is the third bottle I’ve used, and I will continue with this brand, Now Foods.

I consume 5g each of MCT oil and ghee (or grass-fed butter) in my morning coffee. Increasing the quantity can upset your stomach, so I’m carefully adjusting it. With just two meals a day, I don't feel hungry, leading to natural weight loss and decreased food costs. It's effective for soothing my intestines; I think it's even better with decaffeinated coffee.

Replacing enterola! Excellent preparation! It contains lactose, which is crucial for us due to my baby's milk intolerance. Previously, we had months of persistent diarrhoea. The gastroenterologist prescribed us enterol, which helped stop the diarrhoea and expel harmful intestinal bacteria. However, enterol's lactose component triggered diarrhoea, creating a vicious circle. Thankfully, Nau Foods’ preparation has been a lifesaver at critical moments, as this medication is suitable for the whole family, dealing with food poisoning and diarrhoea effectively. Saccharomyces removes harmful bacteria without affecting good flora! Moreover, it’s significantly cheaper than enterol. Wishing you all health and peace!
